It requires the computer to have a Secure Enclave, same as the unlock computer with watch feature of the O/S.
My 2015 iMac absolutely does not have Secure Enclave, unless Apple Engineers broke into my home, took it apart, and soldered a T1 one night while we were sleeping. It unlocks with my Apple Watch every day, and has since I got the Apple Watch 3 three years ago. I also get Apple Watch notifications when installing anything on that computer.

See no reason with unlock with Apple Watch on TouchID Macs, personally I have disabled unlock/authenticate with Apple Watch om Macs with TouchID.
Defiantly a nice one for Desktop Macs with no TouchID
I admit mine is a fringe/niche use case, but as a developer, I have two other screens sitting next to my MacBook Pro, and the MacBookPro is towards the back of my desk, with the real keyboard I use (an Apple Wireless Extended keyboard) up in front. When I need to use touchid, I need to sit up, reach past the keyboard I use all day, past the touchpad I don't use, past the MBP's keyboard whose keys stick and flake out half the time, to rest my index finger gently on the touchid square (but don't press or double-touch or it asks if I want to switch users ... ugh).

I'd much rather just use my apple watch to confirm things. Although, honestly, the semi-regular sitting crunches are probably good for me.

I dumped fancy solutions and now I let Keychain handle it. I only have Apple devices anyway, and it's in line with my new "as few third party apps as possible" policy - one I started implementing when everybody jumped the subscription bus. I only pay AirMail sub as far as apps go. Other than services (Netflix, Spotify) of course.

It works great (especially on iOS/iPadOS) and if ever I need my card number for something that Keychain for some reason won't fill in, I copy it from the Revolut / BigPay app.
Same here. I'd add that credit card info is also managed by the OS (I believe technically it goes in Keychain as well), and the only other thing I used 1Password for – secure notes – is taken care of by Notes ("locked", which encrypts them automatically when Notes is closed, which it always is unless I'm looking up data in a secured note).

I just can't think of a compelling remaining 1Password feature, much less one that would be worth $3/month or ~$70 for the current major version (despite having bought multiple versions in the past and urging family to do the same).

Yeah, this amalgam of Apple-provided solutions might not be as secure from someone sitting at my desktop as 1Password, but it is far better than what I really need. Also, yes, it is free, but for me the primary selling points are that it is built into all my Macs, works with the apps and Apple technologies I use from Day One (example: this very forum thread), I can have my entire family doing the same without asking them to spend their money, and at the end of the day I'm comfortable with Apple doing its diligence to keep things secure (I also deeply trust AgileBits; this is a difference between Apple/AgileBits and other alternative password managers).

What kind of stuff are you guys writing in your notes that needs to be encrypted?? 🤔

That is not what I was replying to. I was commenting that watch unlock for 1Password requires a Secure Enclave becuase that is where 1Password is storing the unlock key.

Still not yet available in the App Store for version 7.7. Sideloading is the only way to get this.

Seems like you have to choose either keychain or 1password now in safari? Default l/pw prompt is for keychain, then 1password has an overlay now, and blocks the ok/login buttons. Not real efficient....
What were they even thinking? I bet most 1P users still have keychain turned on.

How I did what, get Apple Watch to unlock 1password? If so, I really didn't do anything. It just worked after downloading the update.
You mentioned in your answer to me that unlocking 1Password X (the browser extension) would also work with the watch. At least that is what I understood :).

BEWARE 1Password updates. I've been using 1Password for years and generally like it, but EVERY single update has been sloppy and I've ended up wasting enormous amounts of time getting what should be a simple Safari add-on to work properly after an update. The company simply does not test their updates adequately. It's a time suck disaster every time. Their customer support is very nice but they don't commit to adequate testing before update releases and this is a MAJOR UPDATE. I'd be cautious. It will stabilize at some point within 90 days or so.

Anyone having problems with the apple-watch unlocking? I see "Setup Apple Watch" in the 1Password settings, clicking on it opens the Settings and Security window in MacOS but Apple Watch unlocking for apps is enabled there... One time in 1Password it turned on (checkbox with "Apple Watch") but after a few hours it wants to setup the Watch again...

Yes, with the latest 1password update when you click on the browser extension (assuming 1password is locked), it will prompt you via the Apple Watch to click twice on lower watch button to unlock. It works great; especially when in clamshell mode and touch isn't an option. Saves typing in password all the time.

One thing I don't understand about 1Password is that when you use its "Generate Password" option it will show a full green colored bar password strength indicator for a 16-character password, for example. But once you save that password and then tap on this login item in the Logins category, the green password strength indicator will only be 2/3 full, rather than fully green - implying that this password is not THAT strong after all. Why is that?

A bug?
