Not sure about everyone else, but since upgrading to Big Sur, my watch will not unlock my mac anymore...2018 Mac mini...the prefs settings just keeps saying "cannot communicate with Apple Watch" when I try to enable it...
Unplug whatever is in your USB ports and try again.
Mac mini 2018 USB ports should never be used when using Bluetooth.
Yep, one of Apple’s worst design faults.

I am so ready for this feature. AgileBits is awesome. My highly secure life is highly convenient because of them.

I was a user for years but after they forced a switch to a subscription model in order to have the sync feature - I dropped it for Keychain and haven't looked back..

Also, I didn't have positive experiences with their customer service and responses. They were at times unhelpful and snobbish. I do miss some of the features that aren't intuitive in Keychain but otherwise - I'm happy to have dropped them.

This is awesome. The main reason I use TouchID is 1Password. The main reason I currently use a laptop over a Mac Mini is TouchID. I have commented on this a few times in other discussions.

Looks like it's not updated on the App Store yet. Definitely excited about this though.

Why pay when you can use iCloud keychain, or LastPass for free?

I can't speak for LastPass but shared vaults are the biggest deal for me over iCloud Keychain. (And iCloud Keychain isn't all that useful for keep non-password material safe.)

The family plan + shared vaults with 1Password is extremely convenient, especially as the guy who manages everyone else's security in my family—including my parents who would be using like 1-2 easy passwords for everything. We store everything from wills, to ID scans, to CC info there. It let's my wife and I easily share a lot of sensitive data and, while helping dealing with a medical crisis with my younger brother, we can keep a bunch of his medical logins and data shared with me, his wife, and him.

It's also multi-platform at this point which is handy.

Integrating 2FA OTP secrets is super nice. I was able to get rid of Duo.

I really can't say enough about 1Password. I've been using it for years and the paid version for... eh... two years now? Something like that. It's a utility that's so important I want to support its continued development. Features like this are exactly why I'm happy to pay.

Anyone got any good alternatives for 1Password?
I'm still going storng on 1Password 6 (before the switch to subscription) here - still working fine on BigSur (except Safari support) but not sure how much longer it will last.

Huh interesting. I remember reading some posts from the staff that felt like unlocking with Apple Watch was not a good idea and wouldn't implement it.

Still riding on the version I paid for in one lump sum. I refuse to update to the subscription model. No thanks!

Inline password suggestions, finally! I use 1Password on Firefox at work all the time and love this feature and hated how it wasn't available in Safari. Is there a way to change the icon back though? I hate the look of the square Big Sur icons and am resisting the change for as long as possible.

"1Password for Safari has also been revamped, and now intelligently offers logins, credit cards, and identities right on a webpage"

I don't get it? it always gave you the relative logins when you are on a website?!

1Password X does. There's been two extension options available to Mac users. On Mac the plugin that comes with the application install requires you to hit a keyboard combination to trigger credential proxy, and if there was multiple possible credentials you got a popup window rather than the inline selection drop down. 1Password X that did offer this in-line functionality hasn't been available on Safari for Mac. In fact it's still not listed at this page: https://support.1password.com/getting-started-1password-x/ at the time of me posting this. It supported Chromium and Firefox.

This is the first time inline credential selection has been supported on Safari.

Too little, too late. I've abandoned it after a long while of using a pre-sub license, and will never get pulled into a "pay or it will stop working" business model.

Yea I've got 6 installed on Big Sur too, to avoid the sub cost. I have 7.7 installed on my phone which is working without issue so not sure where the sub cost would come in for me if I switch to 7.7 on the mac, or what I'm missing out on etc. That said, I never even used the Safari integration in the past, I've always used 1Pass. as a manual access password store and nothing else.

I pay because I can seamlessly use it across my work provided Windows laptop and my Android phone, as well as my personal iPhone and Mac. It’s a great bit of software that has a lot of features keychain doesn’t.

However, if you simply want to store basic passwords on Apple devices then yes, keychain will work for you.

As for LastPass... didn’t know that was free. Why is it free, how do they make money?

To just store passwords Keychain is fine, you're right.

What I like about 1Password is that it stores one-time-passwords as well.

On top of that you can just safely store so much...bank accounts, credit cards, IDs, insurance information, email accounts, notes, security questions, free text-fields etc. You can even add documents or scans to password/login entries.

It just allows you to have all of that information at your fingertips on your devices when you need them. At home or when you're traveling.

I‘m no encryption expert, but as the vaults themselves all are encrypted, I at least perceive it as as secure as icloud keychain. And it syncs via iCloud as well.

Gotta disagree. LastPass works great & cheaper.
Lmao.

Also, LastPass is owned by a scummy company: https://www.troyhunt.com/logmein-now-owns-lastpass-heres-how-to/

LastPass has had more serious security vulnerabilities in the past 5 years than most people have bought new phones.

Imagine unironically trusting a company this incompetent with anything more valuable than your toothpick.

I would love 1Password if they supported Duo outside their business plans. I don't get why they don't support Personal&Family accounts?

I was very lucky to pick up the standalone release before they moved to a subscription. I just got the download to update to version 7.7.

You don't think it was scummy of them to sell "lifetime" license and to turn around and say, "oh, it was only for that particular version"?
In the license world, you get the app you paid for, you don't get forever updates for free. That software you paid for will continue to work as is. I got free updates with my 1password for around 4-5 years, then they released 1password7 which was a paid upgrade. I would be happy to pay the $80 or so license for another 5 years of free upgrades. I don't expect them to work for me forever for $60.

oh ok, cool. I see what you mean now I just tested it, but isn't it faster just to hit cmd+\? That auto fills it.

Eeeeerrr...they still sell a license, I know ,I bought it. They just hide it away. You have to download the app then it gives you the option once you launch it.

Which app are you using and is it better or worse? Just incase 1password turns into subscription only.

I got tired of waiting on the App Store to update so, I updated manually from the 1Password site. I am liking the watch unlock feature a lot. I have been waiting years fo this. :) I do wish we could set the option to enter password manually to 1 month or more, instead of just every 2 weeks.

I hear bitwarden is the best alternative to 1password. I like 1 password and I would recommend to everyone but IMO its dangerous to rely on any 1 company, options should always exist.

I migrated from 1Password 6 to LastPass and never looked back. LastPass browser addons have also worked much better for me than 1Password.

I dumped fancy solutions and now I let Keychain handle it. I only have Apple devices anyway, and it's in line with my new "as few third party apps as possible" policy - one I started implementing when everybody jumped the subscription bus. I only pay AirMail sub as far as apps go. Other than services (Netflix, Spotify) of course.

It works great (especially on iOS/iPadOS) and if ever I need my card number for something that Keychain for some reason won't fill in, I copy it from the Revolut / BigPay app.
