Veryyy excited for 2.1. Unfortunately it probably won't be out for a couple months. But now is a very exciting time to be an iPhone owner!

did any of you guys do a complete erase all content and settings in the reset menu and try reinstalling 2.0.....it seems to have fix most of my problems.

That's a soft reset.
A hard reset is a reset that brings you back to original state...like restore.

No a hard reset is when you keep the sleep/wake button and the home button held done till it restarts and a restore is exactly what it says it is. A restore.

ah.
that would hurt.
iTunes enters it into DFU mode doesnt it?
while its downloading the update.
eep.

No iTune does not enter it into dfu mode while downloading. It downloads the firmware and then when it goes to install on the phone it does that.

I was hoping 2.1 would fix a lot of the stability issues 2.0 has. This is good news!

I think the Apple show where Apple isn't in there is possibly orchestrated to get Nike's announcement. It is currently sponsored by Nike +
What better way to launch their new iPhone 3G friendly apps?

What show are you talking about? I've been hoping for a Nike+ app for the iPhone. This update sounds like it could hold the key. :)

OMG - if we have to wait until September to get stability issues fixed, then I'm taking my iPhone back into Apple and demanding they restore it to the previous software. I can't take 2.0 anymore!! Seriously - it crashes ALL the time now, often when I'm doing NOTHING. It's crazy.

I don't care about better GPS (especially since I have the original phone), and don't care about apps, background notifications, copy & paste, MMS, or anything else! Just give me a stable phone!

I'm hoping and praying for a 2.0.1 update for at least stability by next Tuesday, or else I'm definitely going back to Apple.

I'm glad they are addressing the issues with poor application resource management with the apps. This should clear up the crashing and the lag.

Hopefully the update will resolve the Outlook sync bug, I hate setting all my new appointments as recurring.

:)

what bug is this?

I agree. All new features aside, they need to release a small stability patch ASAP.

Were any battery life improvements present in 2.1? (A genius I talked to said 2.0 has battery issues, and will be fixed in the next update.)

I wouldn't hold out hope for a 2.0.1 update by Tuesday, but don't give up just yet because there absolutely *will* be a 2.0.1 bugfix update in the next few weeks before the major 2.1 update in September.

Just a quick pic incase some jerk comes along and says pic or it didn't happen....

Looking at this image. If you update your iphone to 2.1 it says that it will permanately lock the device as a testing device. what does that mean?

Any idea when?
I don't even know if I can hold out until Tuesday, to be honest. But if we had some sort of definite time frame, I might be willing to wait...

...maybe...

...probably not.

what bug is this?

A lot of us have suffered from this - some calendar events (either created on the iPhone or in Outlook) don't appear in the Outlook day/week/month view after syncing. It makes it look as if you are missing events, but if you look at events in a a list view in Outlook you can see they are still there.

The work around is to make all events repeating events (for events you only want in one day set the start date and end date to the same value).

This is definitely a bug and I hope is a high priority for Apple to fix. As a business user who depends on an accurate calendar, this could cause a lot of issues.

Have you tried doing a restore on it? It's still buggy but it shouldnt be that bad...
