After the restore, let iTunes copy all of your apps to your iPhone. After that's done, right click on your iPhone icon and choose "Restore from Backup" and restore from the same backup as before. The reason why they're jumbled up is because iTunes doesn't copy your apps over until AFTER it's restored from the backup, thus putting your apps in the order they were copied. Doing the second restore-from-backup, will keep your apps on your iPhone, except this time they'll be in the same order they were when you made your backup.

You are a great person!
Thank you!

I am experiencing the same battery drain since the latest update. I am in the middle of a full reset now. If anything changes I'll post back here.

My new iPhone 3g also Battery life no good.

I thought it was just me, but then I saw 2 tweets this morning from iJustine and Leo Laporte.

I have noticed the same thing, but I havent seen many people talking about it here. Anyone else having terrible battery life since the latest update?
Hi
I also have terable battery life I just bought the iPhone 3g 8gb and I love love the phone but the battery life doesn't last me my whole 8hrs at work I've been having to bring my home charger and charge it on my lunch time. I really don't even go online alot so I read this and maybe that's the problem?I don't know.

Alright I want to report back for the people who have been having bad battery life with 2.2.1

I did a firmware restore, but unfortunately I've only noticed a slight increase. Its still nothing like it was with 2.2. It sucks that its not a widespread problem too. Hopefully the next release will address this very annoying issue.

Now I did restore from a backup after wiping it clean...do you think that could have just brought back problems?

My battery life is the same as it ws prior to 2.2.1, the only thing that I find that really drains my battery is bluetooth.

I've never kept bluetooth on, glad to see your not having this problem though. But at the same time its frustrating, because the problems only affecting a small number of us.

Wonder if there is some other app that is causing the problem.

I suppose that's possible, the Facebook app caused backup issues in the past. Leo Laporte talked about the 2.2.1 battery issue on this week's MacBreak Weekly.

Ditto on the battery drain. I thought I was just imaging the shorter battery life. Also, I have been getting more dropped calls than before. No settings have been changed.

Sorry to bump this, but 2.2.1 is definitely the reason for my terrible battery life. Is it possible to downgrade to 2.2?

Mine still only lasts about a day. Been that way since my 16GB 1st gen iPhone I bought on the day it came out in Febuary 08.

I'd be happy with a day, thats normal for the iPhone. Im getting half a day if Im lucky ever since 2.2.1

Mine is the same.

My wife and I have had iPhones since the original iPhone. I currently have the 3G since it came out. What others have reported with the iPhone loosing most of the battery over night I have also seen this problem. Here is what I do.

1. Charge my iPhone completely before going to bed and then take it off the charger.

2. In the morning if my battery is not still fully charged look at Settings / General / Usage and compare "Usage vs Standby". Of course there should be very little usage over night (I usually wake up to < 10 emails).

3. If Usage is high then I need to do a full power reset of my iPhone. I believe that when this happens something in the phone is looping. Have no idea what it could be. Since it only happens once in a while I just ignore it.

When my wife complains about battery I ask her if she did #2 above. Normally she says no and then I check and in every case this is the problem.

For anybody reporting battery problems I strongly recommend you check your Usage.

Also, I have MobileMe with Push On and also GPS On and Bluetooth On. I.E. Nothing turned off.

As far as people saying their iPhone lasts 1 day or 6 hours all I can say is I believe it all goes back to Usage. If Usage is higher then it should be then reset your iPhone. Like a reboot of your computer.

My battery life is the same it has been since I bought the iPhone back in November. It all depends on usage, screen brightness, and how often you fetch/get "pushed".

Not only is my battery draining faster, but responsiveness of the OS has degraded substantially from 2.2.

I don't know what it is but the phone is a lot slower than it used to be, although still a lot better than the nightmare that was 2.0.0.

google sync

I actually think it's google sync settings that are causing higher than normal usage, thus draining the battery faster.
thoughts?

add one more here. I've definitely been noticing a huge decrease in battery life just after the 2.2.1 update. Right now im getting roughly 2 hours of usage and 1 day standby, i used to get 2 days standby with 3 hours or so of usage. Something is causing the standby power consumption i think. Today was the 4th time my battery died on me, this never happened before the update.

thought id post my settings
wifi on
bluetooth off
fetch off
location services on

with those settings the same pre-update.

For what its worth

I read this artice around 08:00 UK time. I too have been experiencing poor noticeable battery life over the past few weeks. I read about 'push' email and as I have both Mobileme and Exchange, and I was working from home today, I decided to turn 'push' email off and I believe email has been collecting every 15 minutes instead. By the way, prior to this v2.2.1 battery life had been at its best.

At around 19:00 UK time, I can confirm that the readins say 2hrs and 9mins usage and 10hrs 47mins standby. The battery indicator has gone down to about 80% I would guess. This is far better than recently.

Tomorrow, I will turn 'push' email back on and operate under the same circimstances and see what happens. Will report back in 24 hours
