I say take the offer. Newer machine, faster CPU, higher RAM capabilities and better display. As for the OS, it'll be Snow Leo. I doubt Apple will ship you a new MBP replacement with Leopard.
How and why is it that people are getting their MBPs replaced?
I have a late '08 2.4, which has a splotch of dust under the screen, one noisy fan and a bit of a poor battery life. I would much rather be able to swap it out for a newer similar/higher spec machine, even if I had to pay the difference.
its all to easy these days with apple's chineese quality control.
i have went from a 2,2 sr to a 2.8 15" unibody without paying a dime.
its all about how you talk to someone![]()
I also got a 2.8 form a 2.4 replacement. Its because 2.4 had more L2 cache than the 2.66. They say they will never downgrade you so that is true, it is a downgrade. Also if you want to upgrade yourself, you can pay the difference to go to what ever you want. look at the stock 2.66 prices online and you pay the difference. Just a friendly FYI =).
Now that I think about it, I want to upgrade to the 2.8ghz model. Dang, I guess im too late to ask for the 2.8 upgrade and pay the difference. Or can I go to the apple store and ask to upgrade to the 2.8 by paying the difference? Also, can I do it with the student discount?
The price difference between the 2 is still 300 dollars...
Do you really need the 2.8? IF you get an SSD, you will have a computer thats way faster then 2.8.

Thanks, is calling just as good as taking it in? If it did get to the stage where a replacement is wanted can this also be discussed over the phone? You need to call Apple and let them know about these things. If it's still under warranty, then they might offer to at least repair your computer. It's always good to have Apple document complaints and then you'll have a better argument as to why they should repair or replace.![]()
Over the phone they will make you send it in. At the apple store they will look at it on the spot. Usually replacements cone on the second or third repair. I am getting my 2.4 replaced for a 2.66.
My computer was running hot, took it to the apple store, they scratched the lid, replaced the lid but it's not even. I am getting a replacement

Sorry to cut you guys off, but continuing my discussion about exchanging my 2.66 for the 2.8 macbook pro, can they do the exchange for me in the apple store by paying the difference? Even if the 2.66 is a replacement of a late 2008 defective unit? Regardless or not that the tier gave me an upgrade option, I couldn't get the upgrade over the phone because I don't have debit/credit card. What im planning to do is take imy new replacement to the store, unopened, and see if I can exchange and pay the difference for the 2.8. All I know is I don't want to pay more than $400. I'm not asking you guys as if you do work for apple, just looking for any of your opinions or experience.

You got to love Apple's customer service.
I just got even better news! Fortunately I found someone who lent me a credit card. I called back to the Corporate Customer Care Administrator who I've been speaking with regarding my replacement, and I asked her if I can still upgrade to the 2.8 by paying the difference ($300), then she said yes (sweet!). She said she couldn't see why not. All I'm waiting for now is for fedex to pickup my defective unit to get my new 2.8. You got to love Apple's customer service.
