I have two Apple tv in one room and it's causing havoc with unwanted buying of Store items.

1 apple tv is for the TV
1 apple tv is for the projector
1 x logitech universal remote

When I controle one of the apple tv's, I automatically controle the other.

It went fine for 2 years but now I see unwanted purchased items in iTunes.

I just logged out on one apple tv (iTunes store) to prevent further accidental purchase.

Just wishing that Apple has a normal solution for this. Able to program two remotes into the Logitech remote.

You can set restrictions in the other Apple TV, that may be better than having to constantly sin out and back in since restrictions would be only for that device u set it on:- https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT200198

We have two Apple TV's and one harmony. but there close enough to each other would interfere, so i use a 3rd gen remote, while the harmony is paired to one of them. Two remotes would be the solution for that and pair both remotes to each one..

Otherwise, move them further apart... no possible, but that's the only other solution.

There is one other way...

SInce universal remotes can be programmed, u might be able to assign one button to use for one Apple TV, and the ither button to use for the other one. That's what the universal remote is designed for.

That way there won't be any conflicts. Usually software is needed on a computer depending on the URC (some can be programmed via the display directly). All u need is the serial number of both devices and attach them to each button. When you want to switch, press the corresponding button.

Update: Model is needed to program, not s/n, so that won't work.

if you can get an old IR remote (either white or silver), you can change it so each aTV will only respond one at a time.

remote pairing on the aTV (and all apple products) is done on the receiver's end
each remote has a code 0-255, when you hit a key, it sends "play 123" or "menu 123"
when you send the pair command it sends "pair 123" and then that receiver will only respond to commands with 123
an unpaired receiver will respond to all IDs.

so you could...
learn the apple remote to a device on your remote (make sure to learn the pair command)
change the ID code on the apple remote
learn the apple remote with the new ID as a 2nd device on your remote

once that is done, unplug the second aTV from power, hit the pair on the 1st device
then plug the 2nd aTV back in, and hit the pair command for the 2nd device (you can unplug the 1st aTV, but shouldn't be necessary, since it should ignore the command)

more info in these links, it's not a step by step, but all info you need is here

I had this problem.

ATV 4 and ATV 3 connected to same TV. One set up with a UK VPN (set via router), the other vanilla Dutch Internet.

I use ATV 4 to watch UK stuff like iPlayer and UK version of Netflix. But Amazon Prime blocks VPNs very very successfully so I can't watch Prime on the Apple TV 4. That what the Apple TV 3 is for.

BUT, each time I used the ATV 4 or 3 remote the TV would switch to the Apple TV 4 and control it, as well as controlling the ATV 3.

Solution; ATV 3 controller is IR only, ATV 4 controller is IR and Bluetooth. So I stuck gaffer tape over ATV 4 IR sensor (1/2" left of LED on front) and over ATV 4 remote IT sender (little black window on front).

Now the ATV 4 is blind to IR so the ATV 3 controller only controls that, and the IR from the ATV 4 remote is blocked so it doesn't control the ATV 3 at the same time as controlling the ATV 4 by Bluetooth.

One day the world will be saved by gaffer tape.
