That's not solved at all coz I don't even want to pay for it.

Then why aren't you complaining about the other "unneeded" stuff that you have to pay for? Do you use every single feature you computer has to offer? Do you use the optical audio out? If you don't, then you are paying for a feature you do not need. How about FW800? Do you use PhotoBooth? Apple Script Editor? Terminal? No? Then you are paying for features that you do not need.

Seriously: the whole argument of "I don't want to pay for features I do not need" is just downright stupid. You are already doing it, yet I don't see you complain about it. Seriously: iMac having touchscreen does NOT in any shape or form harm you. It gives you one additional means of interact with the machine, that's all. If you don't want to use it... Well, don't.

The thing is that 24" multitouch screens will add a significant cost to the machine and won't actually serve a good purpose with the current software, other than being a really expensive gimmick.

iPhone is not THAT expensive, and it has multitouch. Why would iMac be? And, of course, if they do release multitouch-iMacs/screens, they would also make sure that they have software that can use it. And OS X already supports touchscreens.

Ah yes, another post about new iMacs. Another discussion filled with ingnorant fanboys dreaming of multi touch desktop displays and chinless frames. How much more do we have to take until there's some solid information?

How many inches is the iPhone screen? That's right, 3.5". A 24" screen will be a lot more expensive.

And writing usable software to be used with multitouch isn't done over night. Where would Apple get the resources to do that when they can't even get Leopard released in time?

The iMac is waaaay overdue for an update. In fact, I think every single Mac is due for a form factor update. Apple haven't changed the form factor at all on any of their machines since they announced the Intel change in mid 2005. It's now 2 years since we've seen any external changes to any Macs!

Why does everyone think everything will be touchscreen? What's the purpose? Why? Will they lay flat on the desk then or what?

Seems that ever since the iPhone was announced, people can't continue living without multitouching everything.

That might go in to the Mac Pro but at the most the iMacs might use is an nVidia GeForce 8600M GT.
********, of course it could get something fatter, mobile version of any nvidia card or maybe a desktopversion. I would much more hope for any version of 8800M in that case.

Thought it's Apple, stupid things will happen ;/

will there be touch screen technology like on iphone?

Do you seriously want to work by touching the screen of an iMac? Before you answer, take your finger and point it at the Apple menu. Put it back to the keyboard and point it to the file menu. Put it back to the keyboard and then point it at the edit menu. Repeat about 200 times. After that, you will use the other hand to type any response because you feel like your arm is falling off.

The timing is certainly impecable. I'm a mac owner, and I love apple products, but I needed a machine that was specifically geared towards gaming. I was about to build a new PC until I was hit with the new iMac news here on rumors and it's possible announcement at WWDC. If in fact it were to use a video card 8600GT on up, it would save me the depression of not being able to use OSX. Now...If only leopard came simultaneously...

Yeah right, and Steve Jobs will feed your hamster for free too! :D

Anyway, my opinion is:

No re-design
No Multitouch
No LED

My guess is:

Same look, maybe a little bit thinner, nothing different.
2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo (Santa Rosa)
1 Gb Ram (I think they're going to leave 2gb stock for the Pro hardware only)
Nvidia 8600 or whatever model is in the new MacBook Pro's.

17" Discontinued, 20" Price drop.

You have to admit, this isn't a great year for the Mac, so, why set ourselves up for disappointment?

I'm not angry at Apple, I just think they have too much going on and they seriously need to hire a bigger team to keep everything going.

this rumor has popped up at least three times in the past month and a half. each time the same discussion follows.
  • imacs can't be metal. they are not pro
  • the video cards are weak
  • i want touch screen
  • HEADLESS MAC
  • i want pimp features/specs but don't change the price

etc...

Mini isn't pro either.

Compared to towers? :D

Some people like AIO, some like tiny barebones, and some people like towers. Good thing there's still a choice right?

Unfortunately, not on this platform unless you have a pretty large cash supply.

That's easier said than done though.

Why don't you think there is going to be a redesign by the way? It seems unlikely that they will wait this long and just do a refresh. It's been almost 3 years with the current design. And several rumors points to a redesign as well.

...or at very least look like you masturbate 100 times a day :p

When I am thinking just Leopard is enough enticement to bring home an iMac in October, this is awesome news! :D

I just hope they won't be full of hardware issues like the first issue of Macbooks/MBPs.

I may be wrong but...

Wasn't everyone expecting a MacBook Pro Re-Design too?

And it's not a matter of being easy or hard, it's a matter of being fundamental so that the company can keep satisfying all branches of customers, especially the older ones.

Edit - But of course, no one knows what Apple has up their sleeve... I understand your point of view but I see a lot of disappointment about everything Apple on these forums, people want everything for the perfect price. All I'm saying is... If the hype/expectation is low, you can't be disappointed :)

firstly.....what is the point in a touchscreen iMac.....that would be so annoying always reaching your hands across and touching this vertical screen, i couldnt think of anything worse...

and secondly...i would absoloutely love for them to combine the mac mini and the 17" into something really cheap and affordable which would be great for kitchens and grand-parents.....and actually come to think of it...if you had one of these iMac Mini's (i just named them, its official) in the kitchen, touch screen would come in and handy cause you could have a virtual keyboard just pop up....but otherwise, touchscreen is stupid.

i'm contridicting myself, get over it.

A touchscreen is not stupid. As screens get bigger it takes longer to guide our mouse pointers across them. For instance it is impossible with a mouse to open two folders simultaneously at opposite sides of a screen or move one window out the way while you move another across. In the long run as technologies develop multi-touch could well become a productive tool and not a novelty.
