there better be a solution to it in the near future.

Or what?

Apple's supply chain has dropped the ball in the past on the iMac. I think all of August 2004 had no iMacs because they were waiting for the G5 iMac.

If the rumors are true, a new iMac will be available in a few weeks. I really hope its sooner than later, but I doubt Apple is trying to screw up their supply chain again.

What do you mean 'or what?'

Not having computers to sell isn't exactly helpful for profits, or resellers for that matter. They need a healthy supply of existing iMacs or a new revision, purely to make money ASAP.

I mean you said Apple better get a new iMac out, and I was simply asking for the rest of your thought. "Apple better get a new iMac out," or what?

I agree with your point, but my counter is that this has been screwed up in the past. It wouldn't surprise me if it got screwed up again.

I had problems with punctuation in Safari, had to switch to IE to post correctly... that was lame!

I think it would be sweet if Apple releases 2 lines of imacs. The imac, wich will be pretty much the same, and an iMac Pro with the rumoured metal case design.
This way they don't have to drop the 17 inch model and the 24 inch would be iMac Pro only along with some 27/30 inch in the top end.

Ah, and the iMac Pro could be all QUADS! That would be the best!!!:D :D
and with replaceble video cards, HDs and full size RAM! (I can dream... )

The only problem is that they'll probably have separate launch dates so the iMac pro would come later... but... maybe with Leaopard on it! So it'll worth the wait... :D

LOL - I read your post wrong way there! :D

Apple better get a new iMac out to stop us all going insane!

No touch screen

i think its great that its finally gonna get an update soon, but i really doubt it will use touch screen, that would be another thing that is too ahead for its time that apple have done. Plus i still dont think leopard (if the imac is coming soon) is perfectly suited for touch screen

i for 1 will be buying leopard thats it this year, as for new imacs coming. no touch-screens, its still a concept in my mind, practicality of it is not there yet maybe in later years. i can imagine the 24" imac to become the console of apple so to speak with there gaming option improving, but still with the computer factor, as for looks keep it all in 1 box so no cables, i cannot imagine anything big to the new imacs

just a speculation of mine probably totally wrong

iMac

I do not care when they come out. I will buy one or a MacBook Pro (most likely) with my PowerMac G3 when my iBook dies

iMac at E3?

At WWDC, Steve stated that it was bringing games back to the Mac. Someone (it was either steve or the game developers) said that the games were coming out in July. I seem to remember that they also said that they would talk more about it during E3. Hmm.. E3 is in July and is in 6 days. Perhaps there is a connection between that and the iMac? :)

Add this to the low amount of iMac available at many places, seems to point to E3. Even more is that there is a rumor of iMacs coming from late july (16th-31th) or early August (1st through 15th). What if that rumor was off by a few days? Something else that points to E3.

Before someone says it, Apple CAN benefit from releasing it then. Give the iMac either a) an upgraded graphics card, or b) an exchangeable graphics card, and that would draw some of the gamers who can now game on the iMac. Plus, it could get quite a bit of publicity.

Of course, this is just my opinion, but let's hope it is right! :)

It wasn't steve, but that guy from EA that told us they would announce something special on de E3. I'm curious... hopefull... wishfull...

I think the release date will be July 24th or shortly thereafter.

Reasons:
1. It allows time for iPhone hype to die down.
2. It is early enough to capture August (aka Back to school) sales effectively.
3. Two sales promotions end on the 23rd.
4. Intel will lower chip prices on the 22nd.
5. Supply is low, indicating a new version must occupy production lines.
6. It is a Tuesday.
7. The Paris Expo leaves it too late for an iMac revision -- possibly iPod though.
8. The time since the last update will just barely break the record set between iMac updates, which was the last time a new look was applied to the line (introduction of G5 iMac). This also indicates the revision will be quite substantial.

E3 may be an announce date, if they announce beforehand.

No touchscreen. Touchscreen does not go with desktops. Maybe with laptops. A large touchscreen would be tough to handle like an iPhone screen because one's fingers could not reach fully across the screen.

If there is to be an iMacPro, it would probably release with Leopard, not this month.

Of course, Steve might surprise us all by restructuring Apple's entire lineup of computers (aka replacing iMacs, MacMinis, and maybe MacPros with something else!)

I like your reasoning :)

I am in the market for the upgrade so maybe not long to go ;)

yup i also agree with mathzwizzz.
still waiting for the new ones, 24th sounds like a really good day for them to come out. iLl enter iT iN my iCal to remind me ;)

The current model has 1st generation Core 2 Duos. The new MacBook Pros have 2nd generation Core 2 Duos (slightly faster). The next iMacs will come with the same Core 2 Duos (2nd gen) that are in the MacBook Pro.
also yonah is the codename for the core duos:cool:

New iMac features?

I heard not long ago that the new iMacs are going to have new hardware features....now here's my prediction...

Built-in ipod dock
Some kinda 4-in-1 card reader

Booyakasha!

It's already available for sale, it's called the Mac Pro.

I agree with Mathswizz, the timing would work well. I HOPE that this is the case at least :)
We can all hope

Unfortunately, I can't afford a Mac Pro... :( They cos't more than twice here in Brazil (something like US$6.105,00! for the US$2.499,00 model).

Besides that, I think the iMac is a lot more compact and pratical (It's far easier to transport from one place to another and has less cables and stuff because of the all-in-one design). People are always begging for a mid-tower that apple will never make, and this could be the solution for them... (there's a gap between the iMac and the Mac Pro)

But, afterall, I don't really expect they'll release an iMac Pro anytime soon...

Only thing I can think of is perhaps they have come up with a system that allows for a quick swap or upgrade of components?

Imagine if a video card switched was as easy as pulling it out of a slot on the side or bottom like the RAM. I really like the RAM upgrade system and would like to see it expanded to the video card. Especially if Apple wants to start attracting the gaming market. It is possible to have a video card upgrade work like that, right?

It would really ruin the whole "Mac can't be upgraded" myth. Upgradeable RAM and video card. The main things that people upgrade.

Never heard that one before. The only thing I've upgraded on my iMac g3 was the RAM (64 --> 576). Thing's gone for 7 years (well, six and a half... keyboard mostly died a few months ago), and I find it easier to have a really good system that simply depreciates slowly better than upgrading it.
