We're in the third month so far (April, May, June), lots of time yet.

Actually June is the 6th month of the year, not the 3rd. Jobs did not specify calendar versus fiscal in his keynote, so calendar is the only fair assumption. So yes, the year is half over. 2007 started in January. I am disappointed as well.

i honestly think there are more people who want a midrange tower thats "customizable" with different GPU's than people who want an all in one iMac. if there was a midrange tower for a reasonable prize (think iMac minus $500-$700 for the screen) the iMac sales would drop by more than 50%. and btw. the midrange tower would have to be much better than a mini.

I don't think you will see a mid range tower for those prices, but I do think the mini's days are numbered.

Hmm This is an imac thread! There are 50,000 iphone threads so why not post there.

No worries, it's been taken care of, nothing to see here, move on...

Yes, I work for Apple, haven't heard anything yet.

Personally, I think they might start moving the iMAC toward the pro.
Now that the iPHONE is touch screen, might make sense, even if a small portion of the screen was touch sensitive. However, keep in mind, the arm strain you would have after a while. The new iMACS if touch screen would have to be book like in design - sort or at a 30° angle, similar to a mixer.

What I would like to see.
° Two Hard Drives, use small notebook HD's if need be at 7200 RPM, or the second could be a 7200RPM note book HD.
° Faster GPU for FCP / Motion
° PCMIA slot similar to Macbook Pro
° Fastest CPU to date x 2. Basically a Macbook Pro but with a display, OR update the new MACBOOKS to 4 coresx2 (soon) and all Mac Pro's will be either 8 core or 16 core.

Go APPLE!

I also think there will be a mid range, with STRONG GPU machine under $1000, similar to mini, but with stronger GPU and FW 800 speeds. This will get all the gamers and home hobbyists (video) market share!

You work for Apple but you talk about iPHONEs and iMACs and MACBOOKs.

Riigghhttt. ;)

4 core MacBooks? With what CPU? Not possible at the moment and not in Intel's roadmap in the near future.

I think you're hoping for wayyyy too much right now. If anything they'd upgrade to the SR platform (with the better graphics card). And a redesign... and MAYBE, Maybe an imac pro. for the 24" version? who knows. but if they're going with thinner cases, I wouldn't count on getting two processors anytime soon. there are limits to consumer products right now.

so, pretty much I'm expecting a case re-design, and SR upgrade similar to the Macbook Pro's... maybe a 2.6 Ghz C2D chip? who knows.. maybe even a Core 2 Quad chip in the top of the line 24" iMac Pro... that would be nice.

What I expect in an iMac

I am getting so ready to switch over to Apple and I think I'll go with the iMac.
What I expect from the upcoming Imacs are:

1) 24 and a 30 inch iMac.
2) It needs to be fast, not a quad core, but the latest dual core.
3) Hardware H.264 encoding built in. (come on, it's about time)
4) Final Cut Express preloded at no extra charge.
5) 2 Gb Ram standard
6) 1 Tb Hardrive option
7) and finally a kickin graphics adapter - something faster than the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics controller currently in the macbook pros.

I expect the price to start at $1999.
Not to much to ask is it?

Not sure about the 30 incher.. the 24" was only released last august.
I'd love H.264 encoding hardware!
No Final Cut
Still 1GB stock
1TB 3.5's are too pricey atm!

I think they're going to go down the consumer macbook route of 2 lower end models and a top end model... e.g.

iMac 20" 2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo (SR)
1GB RAM (support for 4GB)
NVIDIA 8600GT graphics 128MB
250GB HD (500GB and 750GB options)

iMac 20" 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo (SR)
1GB RAM (support for 4GB)
NVIDIA 8600GT graphics 256MB
500GB HD (500GB and 750GB options)

iMac 24" 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo (SR)
2GM RAM (support for 4GB)
NIVIDA 8600GT graphics 256MB
500GB HD (750GB option)

drop the 17" and improve the mini!

I think that we will see the new iMacs a few days (or day) after September 16, 2007, and they might update the Mac Minis, and other Macs the same day.

My logic for this is the current student promotion going on at Apple, and since most purchases are student to take advantage of the discount, Apple is just currently trying to get rid of current inventory, or making sure it will all be gone when the time comes.

They did a similiar tactic before with iPods, and I think I remember them doing promotions with other stuff, like a free printer (not rebate, just free).

I think touch screen would be nice, but I really doubt you would have it happen, it would make the new iMacs to heavy, and to expensive. The prices will probably be relatively the same to what we see now, and all components across the board will obviously be better, along with at least LED displays. I could also see them as being thinner, and more manueverable.

That will be all fine and dandy as long as they stick with using the desktop video chipsets rather than laptop ones.

I can't wait to get this for my room! I have been on a windows computer for 10 years starting with 95 and now at XP so I'm getting my iMac in my room becuase my parents are always on the comp. I already have enough money for it! I have 1500 saved and I have saved for a year. Plus I'm getting 1000 more from my job should be fun and can't wait.

Wow... you are a mirror image of me :p ... Except I don't have a job :( ...

But I do want a new Imac (Requested to Steve Jobs).

Are you a student? If so, why not get a notebook instead? Either way, you might be waiting until September or late August for the iMac updates. Frankly, Apple's focus on computers seems to have waned these past six months.

I think this is largely due to the redesign element in the iMac. The Notebooks have not been neglected. The Mac Pro update is likely waiting until the Intel Price Drop comes in.

Those are my guesses anyway.

In regards to the iMac, I am hoping that they opt for an option to include the Intel Core 2 Quad in the 24" iMac. That would be awesome.

me too, ditch laptop components for a desktop computer!

Conroe it up! E6600 and E6700 please.

Right idea, wrong processors... The E6600 and E6700 will be discontinued July 22nd and replaced by the E6550, E6750 and E6850 and others... plus some real nice price cuts on the 1066Mhz FSB bus processors that will remain. The Quad core Q6600 goes from $530 to $266!

I'm still holding on to hope that Apple was waiting for the Intel Bearlake chipset (released last month) and these processors to introduce a new expandable personal desktop line separate from the iMac.

Fact is todays CPU's can do anything & everything, im not even concerned about its cpu anymore. They all are fast these days but Im interested in its graphics. It was wonderful to see Apple get away from its single GPU options and offer 3-4 different GPU's in iMac. Terrific! That was a great thing. Im guessing we will see a 8600 class GPU in the iMac and then slower models, The new ati mid set & Integrated Grandma graphics from Intel.

Since my wife & I are both contemplating new iMacs this fall the integrated is fine for her (she is a grandma) and real graphics for me.

! more point is styling, Look at the shift in styling from G4 - G5 iMac. Its been 3yrs but we have seen Apple moving to black & silver so im guessing a similar styling to iphone, not exact but close to some of ideas posted here but im curious if Mini is just killed or a all new desktop line up.
