?? Wheres the ??

I vote down on this article. We've heard the same news about new iMacs 100 times now. What's new here?

I voted down too. Reading this on the mobile mac rumors I couldn't see the question mark 'graphic' and being that there is no question mark in the subject I thought it was 'news'...
<sarcasm> Of course I guess being that it is an AppleInsider Rumor it must qualify as 'news' ... <end Sarcasm>

I'm really excited about iPhone, but add in the MB Navigation story, and it does seem like 'Computers' are becoming a hobby for :apple:

about the new iMac using multi-touch? honestly... my arms would get sore if i had to keep touching the screen instead of using the keyboard/mouse... totally idiot idea... all you iPhone freaks go away!

Optimally, this would be an optional thing, and the computer would allow input both through touch and keyboard/mouse. Multitouch can be quite useful, and would be especially nice on a screen larger than the iPhone's.

Tell me about it. Apple is spending more time trying to switch people with toys than it is working on why switching is better.

Well, Steve Jobs says Apple is now a "software" company. And, he claims that if someone is really crazy about software, they must make their own hardware. So, they will probably continue to make great computers for awhile to come.

Pricing

I wish AI had some info on the pricing.

Also, I wonder what kind of pricing will we see on the discontinued Intel iMacs? Old form factor, slower graphics/processor ... I would love to pick up a 20" discontinued iMac for $999 or $1099 to use at work, and one of the new 20" iMacs for the home. Yeah, baby! :apple:

IM liking the black look, think thats something apple is going to change to?

Wow, I can't believe the iMac has been out in its current iteration since 2004: 3 years is a lot for a refresh.

That new look is SEXY! :)

What GPUs?

i honestly think there are more people who want a midrange tower thats "customizable" with different GPU's than people who want an all in one iMac. if there was a midrange tower for a reasonable prize (think iMac minus $500-$700 for the screen) the iMac sales would drop by more than 50%. and btw. the midrange tower would have to be much better than a mini.

What GPUs? How many different graphics cards are there that support OS X? Answer: there are two (ATI X1900 and NVIDIA 7300GT); the ones you can choose from with a MacPro. That's it. And they are both generations behind the latest in the PC world. All the cutting edge graphics cards that come out are PC only. Even if Apple made a tower that you could afford, what choices do you really have to upgrade? Even if there were enough folks who wanted this option, what benefit would you derive from it?

Then there is the whole issue of games for the Mac. EA's announcement notwithstanding, they are still using an emulation technology for the ports. If you bought a tower for gaming you would most likely dual boot it and run your games natively on Windows for performance. But you would still be looking at your PC counterparts with envy as they can use the latest and greatest graphics options while you are stuck with your one, last generation option.

I guess what I'm driving at is the "upgradability" argument for a mid-range tower is a fantasy. There is nothing to upgrade too.

You aren't a (soon to be former) Gateway exec, are you?

(btw, this is an actual current product, not something they did 10 years ago--I couldn't believe it)

I gotta say, thats actually not too bad.

And apperantly I'm not design savvy, because that black iMac looks like crap.

If they made a black version of the current iMac, though...

Good News???

.

Sorry, not to be a hater, but this would be bad news in terms of the release date.

I was going to dedicate my entire summer to composing music. I sold my Core Duo imac several months ago to buy one when we thought they'd arrive in about April. Then came the "October" Leopard announcement.

If they come at the end of summer, now what? I've saved for too long to buy now if they will come out in 7 to 10 weeks. UUURRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!

286 days since the last update is rediculous. That would make it about 375 days since an update.

Why release in September? That would be a month before the release of Leopard. I don't see a coupon to upgrade. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm hoping the new imac will release in JULY. That would bring up 3rd Quarter sales.:D

i think that since the 20"+ screens are large, they don't require multi-touch for details... i don't see how multi-touch could be useful in a desktop... photoshop? illustrator? super large image files generally don't zoom in gracefully (even on fast computers)...

Ps

.

PS:

At office depot I saw a bunch of Glossy Black-framed monitors.

While cool, it seems really distracting.

I hope the design is flat... if black is an option.

I hope this is true. I also hope it sports those new nice video cards, hopefully a 8800 GTX type one, and im buying another 24" iMac instead of upgrading my pc for gaming. I think they should keep the 17" for education stuff personally.

Is that the middle of summer starting now or the middle of summer starting June 20th or is it really September 19th?

I like Apple, I like their hardware and love their software and OS. I don't like their games though and they've been playing alot of games (more than the Red Sox) lately.

Like I said about the AppleGPS... wake me in 2009.

It seems as though an updated iMac will really just pertain to a new look for the iMac. As far as hardware goes, sure they will probably get the updates Santa Rosa chips, so 2.16 to 2.33 or something like. Up the ram from 1 gig to 2 gig. Maybe sport a heftier hard drive and vid card. Other than that, nothing like major or crazy seems to be in the works. Obviously we can not be fully sure because no one really knows here. But from all the speculation, besides the looks being changed, the computer is just being slightly updated due to the new processors.

The smaller things that is being hinted at in the article I think has nothing to do with the iMac. I feel it is just more product line ups rather than hardware, such as the EA games being released and maybe some id games. I am sure there could be a couple more things but I have no clue beyond that.

I have one. It's not distracting at all.
The white color of the current iMac is distractive though. Especially when watching movies. That's pretty much the only reason I'm waiting for a redesign.

Whenever PC start using EFI more is when this issue will go away.

WRT the 8800GTX, unless nvidia has a mobile version waiting in the wings ready to be released soon, not likely.

Goodbye lemmings

Sorry, but I am done being a tool for this company.

I have been an idiot waiting for them to get their act together with some decent (just standard) gpu while they spend all their resources on stupid gadgets.

They are not releasing anything this summer. At most they will "announce" something that may or may not be released in October with Leopard.

This wonderful something may, or may not involve super, secret, cool, features that will never arrive because Leopard and any hardware updates will be delayed and delayed and delayed and delayed so Crapple can release the wonderful iNozepick.

Crapple sucks

Yeah I want a mini as well. What the hell is apple doing? It seems that they've forgotten about the imacs, mac mini's, ipods, mac pros.

Come on apple

Why does it have to be one or the other???

You can keep your mouse and your keyboard, and have a touchscreen too!

Again, I ask "why"? What are you going to do with that expensive touchscreen? Why add the expense if it's minimally useful?
