Does anyone with a large 24" + LCD really want to be reaching around to press buttons? Top of my LCD is certinally not "ergonimically safe", let alone convenient.

On an iphone - fine, treo, why not -- my home LCD that gets dirty enough WITHOUT any contact, nope.

There is no hardware

They have abandoned their hardware.

The available configs on their desktops are ridiculous compared to any other company. The vidcards are ancient and overpriced.

The joke is on them. I was stuck with cingular/ATT phone service for a year. Their "service" is terrible in Manhattan and elswhere and they have done nothing to improve it for this release.. THe iphone is pretty, but is basically an overpriced gadget that doesnt do anything better than what we already have. Unlike the ipod, it will not fill any consumer need that justifies the ridiculous price.

The current iMacs use the Merom chipset. The latest chipset is Santa Rosa, as featured in the new MBPs. Penryn is not slated for release until 2008.

Merom on the CPU used in both. Santa Rosa uses the socket P variety. The 945M's code name is NAPA.

Late July-Early august is way too late for this update

Apple Computer doesnt exist, it appears they are interested in phones, music & movies. Whats a computer? plus they lost the war.

Part by their own choosing unfortunately. The only thing Apple knows how to do better than come up with a good idea is how not to full utilize said idea.

Tired of waiting!

I am guessing a total redesign will be announced at the next big event, which will be the Apple Expo in Paris at the end of September (they announced the new imac G5 in Paris 2004). They will probably ship the new imac with the release of OS X Leopard sometime in October. I am hoping for an integrated dock to sync an ipod/iphone. :)

They had better do a refresh on the specs now like they have just done with the MacBook Pro using the Santa Rosa chipset. 2.2 - 2.4 GHz w/ 800 MHz front side bus, 2 GB memory, 250 GB HD and a NVIDIA 8600 GT video card.

If you look a Dell's site, they are already selling this configuration.
I thought Apple prides itself on releasing spec updates that are ahead of the curve?

Why not buy an older iBook then? Their processors consume FAR less power than the mobile chips in the Intel iMacs, and they're dead silent... (For the record, I use an iBook, and am very happy with its dead silence and lower power consumption, so I'm not disagreeing with the points you made :) )

Why can't everyone just buy a bicycle for their next vehicle instead of a car? Same concept :) I'd like to be able to have a new computer AND save some trees (and keep my mountain air fresh)!

I'm just curious...why do a lot of people think that the new iMac would be released as the same time as Leopard? I would think that Apple would want to space out their new product introduction so they can each bathe in their own glory for a little bit without stealing the show from one-another.

Just my thoughts.

Hell No!!!

also they should ditch the speakers

HELL NO!!!!!!!!!! That is why i LOVE the iMac, because everything is built in. I think it is so annoying like the older ones to have all these peripherals with cords AAAAHHHH NOOOO!!!!! If you want better speakers you can still buy some to plug in ;)

Excuse The Caps But... Can Someone On This Site Please Do A Survey For All Of Us To Show That We Are Upset That Apple Has Been Neglecting Their Computers??? I Want To Make It Known To Apple So They Know That We, Their Loyal Customers, Are Concerned And Want To Be Reassured That They Will Keep Making Awesome, Competitive Computers That Blow The Industry Away. Can Anyone Here Please Do That So Apple Will See And Hear Our Voice??? Thanks!!! :d

Give Us An Imac!!!

:( :apple:

right now i am utterly disappointed in apple for not upgrading the imac at WWDC. although it wasn't upgraded, it made me realize that it will only get better (hopefully). I really hope the release it sometime soon or I'm going to have to buy something new to occupy my time. As for the mini:

Drop it, make it a mid range tower that can be upgraded for those that want it.

Intel c2d or quad core processor
Better graphics is a must
more RAM capacity
more HD capacity
and lower the price of monitors, and you have a great consumer computer.

Loving and hating apple at the same time.

:) :apple:

I tend to agree with this statement. I think an imac upgrade in the next month to two months makes sense. This allows some of the iphone hype to die down but is before school starts.

Releasing it before Leopard also means that people will have to pay for an operating system upgrade in October.

I am looking forward to larger hard drive (500 gb), more memory (2 gb), and upgraded video card standard (just a guess).

Anyway, I hope to be able to hold out and buy it when it is upgraded.

Come on guys!

I can't believe some of these posts.

So, what's to cheer about? Apple has abandoned its consumer desktops for almost a year now. And many of us want a headless machine that is both affordable and upgradeable. Until Apple gives us a machine like this, get used to the moaning.

Why in the world would you type every word with a capital letter? Isn't that awfully time-consuming and annoying to both you and your readers?

No

I didn't. Sorry, I put my CAPS lock on and that's just how it appeared on the page. I dunno what happened! So tell me, wouldn't you like to voice your concern about the computers to Apple???

Happy Camper

I purchased a 24" iMac in March bc my employee pkg. included money for books, software, or hardware. Since I was leaving the org. I didn't want to let the opportunity to slip by me and I wasn't interested in deferring gratification. I love it. I love the form factor. Love the "chin." Love the whole pkg. I tend to keep legacy models around, e.g. I have the "sunflower" iMac in my kitchen where it is an incredible workstation which takes little room and is totally useful and aesthetic. When Leopard appears I will be refreshing my portable lineup but for now, regardless of the update, I'm a happy camper. To all of you who are waiting for the new form factor, can I just come over and look? I promise I won't hurt the new iMac.

IM liking the black look, think thats something apple is going to change to?

Blech! Why do people think they can transpose the design of a small device directly scaled to a larger one and retain design confluence.

Great!

Despite all of the waiting and delay, 2007 could yet show itself a year full of steady progress and innovation for Apple products! I am excited to see the new imac design! Now for .mac, iwork, and ilife updates with Leopard? We would be sitting sweet indeed! :apple:

I'm curious -- is there any repository of power consumption statistics for the various processors that have been and are used in Macs? I know that Steve has played up the "performance per watt" of the Intel chips, but it would be interesting to find out that the overall consumption of the older models is lower. (I figured that the older chips wouldn't be as efficient.)

Drum Roll...

.

I predict new imacs tomorrow morning, Tuesday.:D :D :D

Okay, perhaps I am living in denial, and don't want to face the fact that I said I would hit the buy button if they didn't upgrade the imac by the Tuesday after WWDC.

But I could be right.:)

PS: I'm tired of Apple being Mysterious.

An another thing...

I'm tired of Apple announcing products too far in advance.

Like movie ads, you announce a maximum of 4 weeks before the release.

Look at the Apple website now... LEOPARD is on the front page... a product unavailable for 4 months (if they don't delay it again)... how annoying...

OMG, I don't believe it, new Macs??!!

I thought Apple got out of the computer business!
Seriously, my brain is so numb from waiting for Apple I almost bought a Dell!
This is your last chance Apple, deliver on this rumor or loose me forever.
I don't care about the iPhone, I need a new computer, and not yesterday's model.

I am excited about this update for some reason...maybe because its possibly the first form factor change in the iMac since the adoption of intel...or maybe I am just hopeful that it will be so cool that I can't stand it...:apple:
