The resale on these things are crap. sure have that right. what gets me is why so many people are selling them at such a loss. figure it would be worth keeping it for just as a watch.

How's that any different from a year-old iPhone selling at half the original, full retail price? Surely that's just as crap but nobody seems to be complaining about iPhone resale values.

Only the Sports is called Space Gray. I see lots of Sports listed as Stainless Steel also. Some of this is due the Apple labeling the Sports Band as 'Space Gray Stainless steel pin' on both modesl, confusing.

Got a 42mm sport gold w/ navy band open box on B&H Photo $268 no tax or shipping. It can be returned. Was looking on CL and eBay thought it was better to go with a trusted retailer. You have to keep checking for the color combo you want as they do not have all of them all of the time. They call their open box items, used and have the link only if they have in stock. It's right under the retail price of the new one. Mine was flawless except box was not perfect.

I have a thread about the horrible resale value of these things going on over at iMore. The consensus was that it didn't really matter cause most of those on iMore didn't buy it with the resale value in mind. My point was that usually Apple hardware keeps its value much longer than say any Android phone so naturally I was shocked when I was trying to sell my space gray sport watch back in December I was getting low ball offers for $190 back then. Now I have a space black SS that I love.

id love to have the SS but a bit much for me, i know im going to get scratches on it. plus im not patient enough to wait until they are at $200.00. the sport is more than good enough for me, as for resale value, dosent matter because ill be using it as a watch, plus the notifications feature. and it Apple. my iPhone is space grey.

I've tried out both and I prefer the alum. Space Gray over the black SS. The SS is heavier which I didn't like, I'm not usually a watch wearer and the added weight was less comfortable. The black SS looked good but it's a little flashy (for me) with the high gloss it looks bigger too. I like the lighter weight of the alum, and I think the Space Gray color looks better than the silver alum. The SS models are attractive tho. I'm more low key I guess.

Watches in general have horrible resale value. Apple cannot change that. The Apple Watch is really an fashionable accessory for the iPhone. It's not a stand alone product. I have seen much lower prices in the used market for android watches. Always on CL there are the low ballers. I've sold a few iPhones and am amazed the people that have little to no shame in asking you to agree on a crazy price. In the S. Fl market AW seem to hold its own. But the $50 dollar reduction of the sport in price also now brings down the value. It's readjusting to that.

now on good old ebay stainless for $399.00 new in box free shipping. boy there starting to give these away, plenty of 42mm sport for close to the $200.00 range. would be surprised if they dont start selling the stainless for around $250.00 in the next week or two.
Where are you seeing them for this price? I can't find 42 mm sport under 250

I did a quick look on both craigslist and ebay, and am not finding the low prices you're referring to.

For completed sales on ebay in the last few days, the average for the lowest price Sport model is about $270-$275, which is what many watches sold for with discounts. If I look at the stainless steel models, the selling price goes up to about $435-$450 on average, but there are other considerations there (size, band, etc).

Craigslist isn't much different for those on sale (in the Austin area).

So I'm not seeing the depressed values, and those actually seem to be holding their value pretty well.

Haha, yeah, 'seeing it on eBay at $150' doesn't mean it sold for that...

Technology does depreciate quickly and rumours are mounting that Watch 2 will be out in the summer so sure, resal will drop. The Watch as it is is a great device to me. You have to learn how to make it work best for you. Our needs are not the same but the Watch offers a lot of flexibility.

It sure sounds like there are two very different conversations going on in this thread. The OP said that resale was crap and the AW was not holding it's value. Several have agreed without looking at the data.

Many of us cited ebay sales (not initial listings that don't mean anything) or Buy It Now, showing not much discounting of value.

Sure, you can show the isolated, one-off deals that some people get, but these are not the same as original iPhone values after the first year. And yes, CL seems to be lower, but not by much.

So unless someone can show data of many watches going cheap, this is not a valid theory. They are holding their value.

Don't know what 'holding their value' would mean price wise. I've bought 6 42mm Sports in the last 2-3 weeks for $195-260.. that's a huge drop in my book from $400+tax 2-3 mo ago.. most are only 1-3 mo old, 2 were only 6 weeks old. These were complete, mint in box. I'll admit I'm a super shopper, not the average ebayer or CLer. I'd say most are paying $275-300 for them, still a big drop..

No but you CAN check previous sales on eBay and it will show what they sold for in the past. Some ARE selling for very low prices.
That's true, as long as you look carefully to see which ones sold and which ones ended without selling. It's sometimes hard to tell in the old eBay completed listings which are sales and which ended without a sale (it used to be color coded, I know I found it a little confusing.)
