I know that money rules all, but it seems that Gillispie has a pretty sweet setup in College Station. He's built that program into a Top 10 squad in only three years, and, from what I hear, he gets good support from the university. I'd be surprised if he left.
I don't think he has a sweet set up and I'll tell you why.
- A&M will always be home to the second school and second coach in Texas (behind Texas Uni.)
- A&M will always be a football school first
-University of Arkansas IS our school. That's the only team the whole state roots for. We have no pro teams.
- College Station's basketball court is no better than a glorified high school stadium. Max is 12,000 fans. Our stadium holds about 21,000 and we can fill it very easily.
- We have some of the nicest facilities in the country. One of the top football stadiums, top basketball arena in the midwest, one of the best if not the best baseball facilities, the best track in the country, unmatched fan base. Even our weight room is the top in the country.
- We have oogles of money to throw at Billy G. (Waltons, Hunts, Tyson, etc)
-Very rich in basketball tradition and predominantly a basketball school. Many critics will rate us a top 10 basketball program. Billy G. knows he can win a National Championship at Arkansas (it was done 13 years ago) and I don't believe College Station can.
I could go on and on but you get the picture. We have everything he could want and we have it now. It has been confirmed that he is in talks with our Athletic Director and I do expect him to become our new head coach. Time will tell, hopefully by the end of the week.
