OS X Auto Presented A Bug Report Form After The Auto Reboot After Melt Down

A real crash is an OSX bug or perhaps broken hardware, not something that will be fixed with a hardware update.

An octo-core may simply crash faster for you, or crash when you do 4 things instead of 3.

Run your system diagnostics, especially memory tests. If the hardware is OK, bring the issue to Apple's attention - they should be very interested that you can reliably do A+B+C=panic.
After it auto-rebooted a bug report form appeared and let me send them the low down on what I was doing when it happened so hopefully that helped them tweak Leopard so it won't happen in future. Very polite. :)

Embargoed for 3:07 more hours. Would you mind giving us the executive summary while we wait for the Inquirer to re-release it to us late comers? Thanks in advance for your help.

It was a long article talking about SS, benchmarked 3Ghz Clovertown Vs 3GHz 1600MHz FSB Harpertown (Showing Harpertown in a good light) and talked about AMD's Barcelona compared to it. There was some on memory speed improvements being vast too. I think you'll get alot out of it when it's back up.

Embargoed for 3:07 more hours. (until 14:00 PDT)

Buckle Up: It is Penryn Inside!

Since Xeon is an enterprise product, it looks like it's embargoed until after Gelsinger's talk.

Since Otellini spoke more about Nehalem than Penryn - I'd expect to hear the "H" word at 13:00.
_______________

Right now Gordon Moore is talking (a live TechNation interview), Gelsinger is up next.

WWMD? What would MultiMedia do?

Multimedia,

Do you plan to get Penryn or hold on until Nehalem finds its way into the Mac Pro and why?

Head over to Anandtech to see how many World Records they broke today with Penryn under Liquid Nitrogen.

.

13:50 Gelsinge talks about Harpertown benchmarks - including better SPECfp than the 2.5 GHz Barcelona that's months away.

Showing Skulltrail and X38 systems (no demos - just pointing at the boxes running on the stage).

Talking about Nehalem...

Showed demo on dual socket (8 core, 16 thread) Nehalem running Windows XP...

Next up Westmere in 2009 (Nehalem shrink to 32nm) and Sandy Bridge in 2010 (new architecture).

Hey there MM,

What is the big benefit with LACP?

Do you really need 2 x Gigabit Bandwidth?

Are you moving that much data? Via External Raid?

Is this to share data for compressor tasks?

100 bucks the new MacPro comes before November 11th. Apple are the only ones that can do an 8-Core machine the right way and could get the crap early like last time. ;)

You mean like last time when they came out with exactly the same machine as everyone else, but 5 months later with one half clock multiplier faster at 300 watts power for the two chips?

Take off the rose coloured glasses ;)

The fact that reviewers are starting to review the new CPU's gives good possibilty that Apple would also have their hands on at least a prerelease version to ramp into production by October/November. :)

This higher clock-per-clock performance comes alongside a considerable drop in peak power use at 3GHz—from 403W for the Xeon X5365 system to 311W for the Xeon E5472 system—and a smaller but welcome drop in power draw at idle.

For Compressor 3 core sharing on the local net. You know anyone who can help me configure Link Aggregation? I'm having a hard time trying to figure it out. Anyone? I'm using a Netgear GSM7212 Managed Switch.

We can only hope they don't screw the pooch by pairing this next-generation tech with antiquated video card options, as they are doing now.

What's more unnerving is, given Apple's choice of video cards on the new iMacs, will they give the new Mac Pro variant a stiff limp by screwing up the video card options? One can only hope that the Mac Pro team are actually READING the feedback thousands are giving them via their online feedback forum.

Basically they have to, even the Geforce 8800 series is well over a year old by now and newer options are still first to become available late 4th quarter or early 1st quarter 2008.

I am certain that Apple and Intel have been working together for quite some time now to make a reference design based on the Stoakley platform for the new Mac Pro.

1600MHz FSB Harpertowns

It looks to me like 1600MHz FSB Harpertowns will be launched on November 12th with the 1333MHz FSB Harpertowns.
