http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827129007Thats what Apple charges now for a second one.
OEM = OEMHmm. Ok. Make that $50 for a quality one.
My idea of the new Mac Pro:
Base Mac Pro - $2500
$900? - 2.8ghz E5462 Harpertown 12MB cache 1600mhz fsb
$100 - 16x double-layer Superdrive
$400 - nVidia 8800gts 640mb
$150 - 500GB Western Digital SE16 high performance hard drive, 16mb cache
$400 - 4gb fb-dimm (2x2) 667mhz RAM
$50 - Apple Keyboard
$50 - Mighty Mouse
$130 - Leopard
$80 - iLife 08
$240 - other (case etc...)
This is a question for anyone who knows..but this brought it to really make me wonder. the chart and prices for harpertown, that was posted here a few times now, are those prices for one processor, hence 4 cores, or two proccesors, 8 cores? bc if they are for one processor, the guy I quoted needs to double his price for the processor, but IDK
Well it would be $ 797 x 2 = $1594.00
But then you need to add the "Apple Tax" factor to it, probably throw in another 200-400 on top of that, since they price all of their components into the stratosphere...
What's so special again about Nov.12?
Just Curious,
Would anyone care if the Mac went to an all SATA interface setup.
Don't know how many of you are running IDE Hard Drives, but considering the awful performance with 2 IDE Burners, I think this would be a nice change to see.
Tracer
I wouldn't mind keeping at least one IDE cable in there so that I can add the DVD Burner that I bought awhile ago.
Public release of Harpertown.
I would assume that when Leopard is released, so will a faster Mac Pro. What's the point of advertising a faster OS without a machine which can fully demonstrate those claims?
Surely there are no "Top Secret" features, or they would have had to release them to developers in recent pre-release builds of Leopard. I think Steve mentioned that secret features were still to come because he realized the 10 new features he was talking about at the time were mostly rubbish. He probably hoped the OS X developers would come up with something between then and release, but due to iPhone etc they have struggled to finish Leopard at all. Bet you a bar of fruit and nut that when it's released there are no secret features worth mentioning.![]()

They could also be under the hood capabilities that developers are under NDA to reveal even though they have already tested for compatibility."Top Secret" features can be placed as applications within Leopard.

I'm sure just reading a few posts before yours would have easily answered your question. With these new processors coming out, will I be able to pop out my old CPU in my current Mac Pro and put these new processors in, or will they have different pin configurations?
