Same pin configuration.
Doesn't mean they are electrically the same.
Same pin configuration.
Doesn't mean they are electrically the same.
Naturally. However, generally pin configurations are changed just for that purpose (different electrically). Intel doesn't want someone sticking a CPU into an older board that has a different electrical configuration as it may not give favorable results, to thwart that, they change the pin configuration.
While it is possible they are different in the way that they interface, it is exceedingly unlikely for the reason explained above.
Nvidia is bringing forward the launch date of its upcoming GeForce 8800 GT (G92) GPU to October 29 from the original November 12, targeting AMD's new Radeon HD 2950PRO (RV670) as the major competitor, according to sources at graphics card makers.
With G92 and RV670 having a tight performance/price ratio, Nvidia's earlier launch should give the company an advantage in the market, noted the sources.
In addition to G92, Nvidia will also launch the G98 GPU to replace the GeForce 8600 series, however the launch date has not yet been set, added the sources.
Nvidia was invited to comment on this report, but did not respond by the time of publication
Apple is set to introduce updated MacBook laptops following the release of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard later this month, sources report.
[...]
Apple is not expected to update the MacBook Pro before the end of the year, and sources at this time don't expect any other Mac hardware to see a revision before the holidays.
Swear to God there better be a MacPro update with Leopard. I really don't want to be forced into buying a current MacPro in November.
There are no rumors and the MacPro is not selling or generating revenue at the rate of Apple's iProducts and MacBooks.
Actually, does that (title above) mean that Apple would only be interested in replacing the high end 8-Core MacPro and still leave the 4-Core untouched? Or did Apple pre-book all the new Penryn's to update the whole line?
Apple has "pre-booked" all the top (3.2GHz) Penryn bins for this year.
Actually, does that (title above) mean....
It means very little when the Inquirer reports on what it admits is a rumour.

The Inquirer reports on rumors circulating around Tokyo about Apple's interest in high end Penryn processors for their upcoming Mac Pros.

Aiden has spoken. Sounds like we're screwed until MacWorld in January.
I don't think we should start picking and choosing which ones we like and don't like.
Is that sarcasm? Sorry, can't tell over the next sometimes....![]()
I think the phrase is "consider the source" - and when the Inquirer calls it a rumour I think that calling it fact (as you did) would be risky.
netdog said:No. When Aiden shoots down the one thread we have to hold onto, the only hint of an Oct/Nov MP release, I am really worried that we are looking at a MWSF release.
Well, I'm definitely gonna wait for Leopard before I buy. We never know, by then, maybe Harpertown will be in the bad boys with a silent update or a better rumor will be out.
And the MacPros aren't selling because we aren't getting our money's worth with the price drops and us knowing Apple purchased the new Penryn processors.
I don't remember calling it a fact. Could you please point that out to me.
"Apple has "pre-booked" all the top (3.2GHz) Penryn bins for this year."
You didn't qualify the statement, such as saying "Rumour that Apple has...". Therefore, the sentence is presumed to be a statement of fact.
Come on now. Can't we all just get along???
Don't take the wind out our sails Aiden. We've come this far.
Bet you dollars to donuts Apple has pre-booked them all.
