Winning the SB would've obviously elevated Brady (as well as the whole Pats team) but losing the SB doesn't call into question how great of an all-time QB he is. I mean, how many rings does Brady have already? It's not like he's got a "choke-monkey" to shake off his back like Peyton did. If falling one game short of going 19-0 some how drops Brady a few rungs on the "greatness ladder" then every other QB that failed to have a perfect season has to get dropped a few rungs too.

I was actually referring to the stop they made when the Pats got the ball with 39 seconds left and 3 time outs....

Given their big receivers and Brady seeming to be able to will TDs in the regular season to get them to go 0 for 4 on passes in that series was the clincher.

Gotcha - I agree on that one too. I was referring to how keeping the Patriots at bay made them choose that 4th down play. if the Patriots were even 10 yards closer the field goal attempt would have been a no-brainer.

i think its a combination of the previous performance of their punter, as well as BB's over-confidence of Pats' offense.

It's funny you should say that - at the time, the latter actually popped into my head, and part of me almost believed it as well! ;) :D

Maybe it was his ankle, but I do think the Giants showed an example of how to stop Brady. In all the regular season teams have tried to get to him but they never succeeded. I wonder if more teams will try the Giants model at attacking Brady. And will the Pats be able to get him better protection. They will need to get younger if they will be able to protect him.

You make it sound like it was some big secret that getting to Brady was the key to success against the Patriots and that the Giants magically discovered it in the Superbowl.

It's no secret. No one had been able to do it consistently before. Brady had awesome protection all season. Who knows what other factors contributed to this loss?

And FYI, the season is over. I don't think anyone needs worry about how to get to Brady anymore.

The Giants did a great job last night, and what's even more amazing is that they've used almost the exact same game plan for the last three games (Cowboys, Packers, Patriots) and couldn't be stopped.

You have to wonder what the Pats game plan was and why they never changed to react to the Giants. Half of what makes Brady good is the pocket protection and that didn't exist.

Goddell ask that they intentionally throw the game because of the heat over Spygate and how they actually caught Mangina and Goodell shooting up dope before a game. Hence the tapes being destroyed.

They needed more drives like the one that gave them the lead in the fourth qtr. Their offensive play calling in the first half was very vanilla and too conservative, imo. Kept waiting for short slants and dumps to Faulk and Welker to try and counteract that pass rush. They could never establish the run with Maroney either. Why on earth they called an all out blitz and left Hobbs on an island with Burress is beyond me..
Still can't take away from the Giants. They outplayed and outcoached the Pats. I'm sure Spagnuolo will be a head coach at some point....

Rumor is he gets the Redskins job.

For his part, Spagnuolo had little to say about the potential of the Redskins' job.

"I want to take this all in tonight," he said after the Giants beat the Patriots, 17-14, to win Super Bowl XLII. "Whatever the future holds, we'll see."
Last night, another candidate for the Redskins coaching job -- NFL Network commentator Steve Mariucci -- said of Spagnuolo and the Redskins: "I think it's important that they have a good interview and see if it's the right fit."

I wonder if he is better off staying with the Giants for a few more years. Or take the first offer he gets.

Depends..If he stays and the Giants have a bad year, his value falls.Right now, he's the hottest commodity out there for head coaching vacancies. And Snyder would love to lure him away from his division rival..
I wonder how Shockey felt seeing Eli so successful w/o him?

I just looked over the highlights with the game audio and I am amazed at how many fans were in the crowd. Usually it is just filled with people that don't care about either team. There was an even number of Giants and Patriots fans there.

For all the praise the Giants are rightfully getting, it's worth remembering that the Patriots were probably just a miraculous catch and a dropped interception by Samuels away from the headline being just another magical comeback by Brady (for a 19-0 season, of course).

I was all but certain that Brady would lead the Patriots on that scoring drive to take the lead, but I didn't count on Manning doing what he did.

You could argue that the Giants won the game the same way the Pats have been doing it all season. They made the plays at just the right time and came out big in the end.

There are so many comparisons to this Giants team the same way the Pats played against St Louis. Big underdogs that had no chance to win starting something big.

New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who interviewed for the Redskins' head coaching job the past three days, has decided to stay in New York.

Spagnuolo was not offered the Redskins job but his agent Bob Lamont said "it didn't matter because his heart is in New York City."

"The Redskins were great ... it was a great interview," Lamont said.

The Giants are also giving Spagnuolo a new three-year contract in excess of $2 million per year, which would make him the league's highest-paid defensive coordinator.

Who the hell would want to work for Schneider and who would take the job when your assistants have already been hired for you?

My god the Pro Bowl sucks. This is the game they should play overseas. A lot of name guys and exhibition rules so no one gets hurt.

Lame for us, great for foreigners who don't know any better.
