To the Pats fans:

Do you think they have to win the Super Bowl in order to be considered on '72 Dolphins level?

If they lose do you think the 16-0 regular season would go to waste or be all for nought?

Yes, I'm being serious. (just in case you thought I was blinded by my hatred)

As a little interruption in this fight:

Cowboys FTW. :D

Gisele > Jessica Simpson

Anyways, the Giants played a hell of a game. That was fun to watch even though I almost had a heart attack a bunch of times.

I don't think so. How many times this year, even before a perfect season looked within their grasp, have you heard people say that this was one of the best teams ever? To the average fan, unfortunately, the 72 Dolphin perfect season is still the gold standard and no other team will match up without a similar record, no matter the longer season, tougher schedule, etc.

So I wonder what people will say if the Patriots do not win the SuperBowl. In a way it's almost worse to be a 16-0 team and not win the SuperBowl than a 12-5 team, let's say, and not win. Not many people remember the 15-1 Vikings and it's probably because they didn't make it to the SuperBowl that year... Now granted the Patriots have set all these records and are arguably a dynasty, what with all their recent SuperBowl victories, however the fact remains - what would the general perception be of a team which can go 16-0 in the regular season yet not win the SuperBowl? I'm sure many would throw that whole cheating thing into the mix as well when looking back on this year's Patriots...

Of course if they win the big game than this is all irrelevant, but still, it's fun to speculate... ;)

That is a little out of line don't you think.

And the award for most ironic post goes to... this guy.

I'm sorry all your teams are so crappy. But grow up please.

Not at all. they just took home all the records. They will be historic regardless of the postseason.

Wait, wait. He was defending a team that put forth their best effort and almost beat the best team in the NFL. So what if he likes that team on any given day?

There are still other teams in the league besides the Pats, It's like Pats fans just want to be god and all other fans are worthless. It is getting old.

It is one thing to be happy about your team but to cram it down everyone else's throats is a little much.

11 total team turnovers

What's that mean? 11 recovered fumbles?

BTW, the strange thing about the only perfect season... they are never even considered when people talk about the best team ever. People mention one of the Steelers teams, or the 85 Bears, 82 Skins or one of the 49ers teams.

What would a SB win mean to this team's legacy?

Moss in the press conference

Reporter: "Is breaking Jerry Rice's record special?"
Moss: "Not really. I think shutting all you guys [the media] up is special." (after they were all saying he had lost a step in Oakland.

Randy Moss for a 4th round draft pick will go down as one of the biggest steals in NFL history.

Yes and no. Without a SB win, I don't think they can be considered to be the best single-year team of all time. If they win, I think it's a shoo-in. As far as "no," I think they're an infinitely better team than the 72 Fins.

If they lose do you think the 16-0 regular season would go to waste or be all for nought?

Partly. I think the championship has a special significance that the regular season, no matter how great, does not. As others have noted, who remembers the Bears of 42 and 43? Perfect regular season, didn't win the title.

So basically you're jealous. And New England fans suffered through horrible seasons for a long time, so we're going to enjoy every bit of this while we can.

Football is a different game now then it was for the Bears in 86 or the Steelers of the 70's or the Limbardi Packers.

Yeah.. the Pats play in the era of free agency. Back in the day, players would stick with the same team for their whole careers. They didn't move around nearly as much as now, so all of those dynasty teams stayed together year after year. Free agency makes it even harder to keep a core team around for so long, and to keep winning. That's why what the Patriots have done is so impressive. Credit goes to Pioli, Belichick, and the rest of the front office for this one.

It means the Patriots turned the ball over 11 times the course of the whole season.

yup.
