It was a very very poor match.

The ref was very inconsistent, Pineaar should've received two yellow cards for each of his tackles against Lucas. Also Fellani should've got a yello for kiciking out. All in all everton were quite rough and racked up the cards.

Then the ref gives a soft yellow to Lucas to even it up a bit and the fool goes and gets himself sent off.

To top it all off ITV cut to advert breaks with 2 minutes of the game left and come back with Everton players cheering.

ITV coverage is poor at the best of times but this really took the piss.

Hopefully the FA will take the coverage away from them as punishment.

No way was it a "technical" problem.

I got a text from my mate during the game simply said Sissoko is better than Lucas.

I fail to see why Lucas gets picked ahead of Mascherano.

Everton vs. Villa will be one to watch. Pretty certain that Villa will win.

I was watching the game too, and quite agree it was hardly a classic. I did get to see the goal though – my screen went blank, the sponsor's ident came up, everything went black again, and then the match came on just in time to see Gosling's rather well-taken goal. I think the disruption varied from TV region to TV region, and depending on whether people were watching through cable, satellite or whatever.

Apparently ITV have an automated system that plays the adverts, erm, automatically when they have live sports coverage and this system should have been deactivated when extra time began – some numpty obviously forgot to do so. Really, it's just typical of ITV's football coverage which rarely ventures above poor.

Everton are just bad news for Liverpool this season...I missed the match (seems I didn't miss much)...the injury to Gerrard is the big story - I feel like we rely on him so much.

I agree about Lucas.

At least he gets out of an England game - provided he can produce the appropriate sicknote :p

And what's with meaningless international friendlies at this point in the season anyway?

Great, Spain vs England - that means Torres will probably be out for a few weeks after that game

Good job we've got a proven international striker as back-up, oh no, wait...

I watched the match was a bit scrappy and a bit boring at times tbh, great goal from Everton though. Both sides looked even. Did you see the golfballs in socks being thrown?

Bad news for you that Gerrard is out for a few weeks but good news for us. Regretting the sale of Keane now Benitez ? Pompey tomorrow!

I heard that the socks were being thrown by Liverpool fans to mock Everton's potential move outside of the city to Kirkby - I'm not sure exactly why socks were chosen but maybe one of our resident Scousers can inform us why?

I haven't heard anything at all about the socks containing golf balls, if this is the case then it oversteps the line from being a simple dig to something more serious. Do you have a link to support this claim?

Naa just what a mate told me, i never said it was hard fact, sheesh this isn't wikipedia ya know

Ah, that explains the relevance of the socks. Thanks for that. :)

No mention of golfballs, mind...

One of my mates tells me Gary Neville isn't as bad looking as people make out. It doesn't mean I believe her. ;)

The joke is that in Kirkby even odd socks are stolen from washing lines but at least the fans splashed out on pairs.

And yes no golf balls.

I also heard that Southgate's nose isn't that big

Hahahha loved the Christmas SKY Adverts where they were playing pictionary and phil tompson was up and they shouted Pinocchio ..... classic :)

Hmm... it looks like Petr Cech will have to sit out of Chelsea's match tomorrow with a back injury, apparently sustained taking an over enthusiastic goal kick against Liverpool.

This is good news to those of a black and amber persuasion.

Owls do the "Double"! 95 years in the making!!

Rafael Benitez today insisted Lucas has his "100 per cent support" as the young midfielder reflects on the most difficult week of his career.
After conceding the penalty which gifted Wigan a point at the JJB Stadium, the 22-year old was sent off for two bookable offences against Everton in midweek, ruling him out of today's trip to Portsmouth.

....

"Against Wigan, for me, Lucas was the best player on the pitch. Then the other day at Everton he was also playing well..."

Rafa must have been watching a different derby game to me

He's young and I hope he does come good, but he's giving him a lot more time than he has other players, which is strange really - especially given some of the money that's been spent.
