Out of interest smwatson, what do you think about Grayson's appointment? He seemed a decent enough manager to me during his time at Blackpool - and he's a former Leeds player of course, albeit with only a handful of appearances...

leeds are slickers...

Luckily we embrace the latest technology here in the East Riding, so our pitch is unfrozen and ready for some Third Round footballing. Ace.

A cursory look at our opponents reveals a club in turmoil - doing poorly in the league, in the midst of an injury crisis, an apparently want away captain and a goalkeeper who releases statements that he wants a transfer through his agent. They're all set up to be mauled, so a comfortable away win is on the cards. It's the Hull City way. ;)

Since Setanta has the rights (at least here in the states), I'm able to watch some football this morning.

Maccesfield V Everton
Hull V Newcastle - delayed

Everton are fielding a full team, so I'm hoping for a good show.

We only get the Preston North End v Liverpool this afternoon :) Still though I would love to watch some of the earlier games.

Now we've had two great results he seems like a fantastic appointment. Seems genuine enough in interviews.

When it was first announced I was highly skeptical - definitely preferred him to Poyet or any of the other initial favourites though.

He's a manager with experience of getting out of this league, which is exactly what we're trying to do, so there isn't really anyone better. Very enthused about the remainder of the season.

Gutted Hereford can't cover a pitch though.

That's the thing – I know a few Leeds fans and some of them weren't keen because he wasn't a 'big enough' appointment for them. But as you rightly say he's got a proven record at the level Leeds find themselves at, which is exactly what the club needs right now.

Maybe you can tell me later... did Turner's effort cross the line? I've no seen any footage yet and opinion among the Tiger Nation is divided based on where folk were sat...

Hello all, Happy New Year to you all.
I see you tried to run away from me and set up a new thread but I managed to track you down!

Weird day in Scotland today, almost enough draws to fill a pools coupon.
Local news, after 114 years St Mirren played their last game at Love Street today so there can be no more debate if they are my closest team (they are moving a 1/2 mile further away from me.)

OllyW, even though they were selling up shop, St Mirren installed under soil heating in 2005 to ensure they didn't postpone a game. Although we get it slightly worse up here, surely it should be a requirement for Premiership/Championship?

And a happy New Year to you too, Fuzzy. :)

Of course, another consideration is that if the weather is very bad a game may be postponed even if the pitch is fine – the safety of supporters travelling to the game is also considered. One of our matches a season or two ago was nearly called off due to concerns about the approaches to the stadium, I can't remember who it was against mind.

Sorry, I didn't see the game. The kids were playing on the Wii, and after I saw the score, I wasn't as interested. I don't mind Hull, but Newcastle are just dire to watch, unless they're getting their arse's kicked.

I really think undersoil heating should be a condition applied to all stadia in Championship and above. An issue highlighted today by Birmingham being forced to postpone a game. Birmingham, a club that's spent however many millions on players as they yo-yo between leagues that doesn't have undersoil heating? That's just shocking.

The undersoil heating system at Elland Road consists of 59 miles of piping, frost-free footballing fact fans. By curious coincidence, that's exactly the same distance as it is to drive from Elland Road to Stoke City's Britannia Stadium, should any West Yorkshire-based supporters fancy seeing some top-flight football for a change. ;)

It wasn't exactly a classic to be honest, so you didn't miss anything major.

After I posted, I had the chance to watch the highlights – it's not clearcut, but the assembled pundits were of the opinion that we were a little unlucky the goal wasn't allowed to stand.

Given had a very good game though, and it underlined his importance to Newcastle. Will he still be there for the replay though?

Here's the full FA Cup Fourth Round draw...

Liverpool vs Everton
Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur
Hull City or Newcastle United vs Millwall or Crewe Alexandra
Sunderland vs Blyth Spartans or Blackburn Rovers
Hartlepool vs West Ham United
Leyton Orient or Sheffield United vs Charlton Athletic or Norwich City
Cardiff City vs Arsenal
Portsmouth or Bristol City vs Histon or Swansea City
Chelsea or Southend United vs Ipswich Town
Cheltenham Town or Doncaster Rovers vs Aston Villa
West Bromwich Albion or Peterborough United vs Queens Park Rangers or Burnley
Torquay United vs Coventry City
Kettering Town vs Fulham
Watford vs Leicester City or Crystal Palace
Derby County vs Nottingham Forest
Birmingham City or Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Middlesbrough

I suppose the ties that leap out are the Merseyside derby, and also the East Midlands derby that pits Derby against Nottingham Forest. There's a bit of added spice to that game given that Forest's newly appointed manager Billy Davies is a former Derby gaffer.

Away from the Cup, Sky Sports News is reporting that Manchester City's anticipated January spending spree on the world's biggest footballing stars is set to continue with the imminent capture of... Scott Parker.

Missed the games, but glad to see that Torres has again set foot on the pitch. Let's hope his rehab was enough to keep him healthy.

Doesn't look like the draw sets up any huge upset possibilities like we saw last season, does it?

As it stands, both Portsmouth and West Brom will need to get the better of two lower league sides to progress to the Fifth Round... of the others, I'd pick maybe Middlesbrough to the the Premier League side most in danger of a defeat to lower placed opposition. Boro aren't having a good season while both Birmingham and Wolves are in form...

Being an American Football TV pundit pays much better than Derby County could afford, and nobody would understand or appreciate the spittle-laced tirades in American slang.

Although I'd love to hear him use American Football slang in his post-match interviews, or try to call a timeout. :D
