Although I'd love to hear him use American Football slang in his post-match interviews, or try to call a timeout. :D
He'd call 'shirts' 'jerseys' and 'kits' 'uniforms', and other such 'merican malarkey.

I mention this because our ill-advised road uniform – sorry, I mean away kit – is causing us another Geordie-based headache. You may remember that we wore our dark grey away kit against Newcastle earlier this season, due to the fact that our first choice black and amber striped shirts aren't a million miles away from their black and white striped clobber. Fair enough, until the referee deemed our kit too dark next to Newcastle's and we had to play the match wearing white shorts and socks borrowed from our brown ale supping hosts.

Anyway, this problem has reared its ugly head again with our FA Cup replay at St James' Park next Wednesday. The FA has ruled that we aren't allowed to wear our 'flint' kit at all, nor our home shirts – and as we don't have a third choice shirt we're a bit buggered really. Apparently, our kit supplier Umbro are currently trying to sort us out with a makeshift emergency kit which the FA will approve and they can manufacture ahead of the tie. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with...

And some more City news – it looks like our favourite forty-something footballer is going to be shipped out on loan to Hartlepool. Aww, Deano.

Too bad about Windass - I was really looking forward to seeing him play in the premiership. But in this game there's no room for nostalgia and Brown has clearly not rated him as a starter in this league.

It's more than that though, your Lordship – he's really rubbed Brown up the wrong way of late.

As I've mentioned before, Deano 'writes' a blog for ITV Sport's website and for a while he's been using it as an outlet to moan about the manager and the fact that he's not getting picked.

He's also been mouthing off in some of the nationals, including a piece in which he criticised the standard of the pitch at Winterton Rangers, a nearby non-League club whose ground we have an arrangement to use for some of our reserve matches. The comments about Winterton in particular were particularly embarrassing for Brown, who came out to make a public apology on the club's behalf.

It really does look like this was the last straw for Brown, I didn't think Windass would have his contract renewed in the summer but at least then he could have retired or moved back down the leagues with a bit of dignity – the possibility of a coaching role with the club had also been mooted in the past. At the moment though, he's really making a bit of a tit of himself and I won't be surprised to see him gone before the month's out.

EDIT: Sky Sports News have confirmed he's heading out on loan to League One Hartlepool for the remainder of the season.

Well, footballers aren't renowned for their intellectual prowess...I have been reading the ITV blog and about half of it is devoted to talking about not getting picked - though to be fair, if he isn't playing there isn't all that much to write about from a footballing standpoint. Reminds me a bit of Micah Richards' BBC blog while he had a long-term injury.

Well in today's rumour news, a delegation from Newcastle was spotted sniffing about Ibrox this morning, but it's Birmingham City who claim to had a bid of £3m accepted for Kris Boyd. After a failed transfer to Cardiff at the start of the year he's turned out to be a revelation, 20 goals in 21 starts, just the type of player we need to get rid of . However Rangers says they haven't talked to Birmingham, I think this is just shenanigans to get the money up'd.

Also rumoured to go is captain Barry Ferguson to St Andrews or St James but nothing on new players to replace them.

There's also the possibility of us reusing last season's splendid white away kit, assuming we can get our hands on enough unnumbered ones for the current squad. However, as this emergency kit is for us to wear against Newcastle I suspect they won't risk white, seeing as how it features prominently in the Geordie's strip.

As a bit of a left of field suggestion, the outfield players could potentially wear the light blue 'keeper's shirt - our shotstoppers all wear a modified version of last season's goalkeeping kit as they're not keen on the new one.

What about the old 90's tiger striped madness? I would pay good money to see that. :D

...and there's no way you'd confuse it with anybody else's kit, except for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Ronaldo writes off his Ferrari. Shame!

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has written off his Ferrari in a crash near Manchester Airport.
The 23-year-old winger was driving the sports car through a tunnel beneath the runways when he smashed into a barrier.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said his team-mate Edwin van der Sar was following in his Bentley, but the Dutch stopper was not involved in the crash.
Ronaldo was not injured in the accident, which happened on the A538 Altrincham Road at about 1020 GMT.
One lane of the road has been closed whilst the debris is removed.
A GMP spokesman said an investigation into the crash was under way.
Police said the Portuguese international gave a negative breath test to officers at the scene.
Manchester United have confirmed that Ronaldo is fine and is training with the club.

CCTV footage shows the winger get out of his car. Walking around inspecting the damage before throwing himself to the ground clutching his leg and rolling around.

Is there any coverage of the trainer coming out with the "magic sponge", to wipe down the affected leg?

So his play acting got the car sent... I mean... written off?

I can't stand the guy. Such an arrogant ****.

EDIT: Pics!

:D

That wouldn't surprise me at all!

I'm surprised that Fergie hasn't come out to pin this on the footballing authorities yet, as he currently seems to be blaming all his woes on them having some sort of conspiracy against his team.

If anyone has any pictures of of a chortling Trevor Brooking placing the barrier in Ronaldo's path (in best Dick Dastardly style), let's see it.

Yesterday there where quite a few rumours going around about Hull City being purchased by the company that owns Tiger Beer. Don't know if there is any truth in this but it would be a great marketing coup for the club.

I've heard a few whispers but nothing beyond that. With us participating in the Asia Cup next season, it might be that we're looking at a sponsorship deal with them or something and that's where these rumours began. Certainly, the Asian market is something we've not tapped into in the way some other clubs have and our tiger imagery could be a little plus point in our favour out there.

Maybe something to keep an eye on, though.

Feh... the white one would be fine. All white vs a few white stripes. Ridiculous...

What did they decide?

nail meet head

:D

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has launched an astonishing attack on his Manchester United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Spaniard claimed United boss Ferguson is "the only manager who will not be punished" for outspoken attacks on referees.

Benitez claimed: "We had a meeting in Manchester with managers and the Football Association about the respect campaign.

"And I was very clear, forget the campaign because Mr Ferguson was killing the referees, killing Mr (Martin) Atkinson, killing Mr (Keith) Hackett.

Benitez is clearly irked by the lenient way he sees Ferguson treated by the FA, and hit back at the Old Trafford chief's complaints about how the fixtures are compiled.

But the Spaniard's long list of complaints about the world and European champions was not an angry rant. It was a measured, controlled delivery at the media conference ahead of the Barclays Premier League trip to Stoke.

Liverpool are top - and if they win tomorrow they will be six points clear of second-placed Chelsea and 10 ahead of the champions before the pair meet at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Benitez sat with a sheet of paper, unfolded in front of him, from which he read a catalogue of grievances against the Manchester United regime.

Ferguson's complaints about supposed favouritism over fixtures prompted Benitez to say: "I was surprised by what has been said, but maybe they are nervous because we are at the top of the table.

"But I want to talk about facts. I want to be clear, I do not want to play mind games too early, although they seem to want to start."

Benitez believes Ferguson is getting away with attacks on referees which would not be tolerated from other managers.

He said: "All managers need to know is that only Mr Ferguson can talk about the fixtures, can talk about referees and nothing happens.

"We need to know that I am talking about facts, not my impression. There are things that everyone can see every single week.

"Are they under pressure? Maybe they were not thinking that we would be at the top of the table in January. But we are at the top of the table and they are nervous.

"I am not telling the authorities what to do. But I have been here for five years and know how things are going on."

Benitez added: "To hear someone talking when he has problems with referees every single week, and now complaining about the fixtures and complaining about everything, I think that is not fair.

"You can see every week how they put (referees) under pressure, we know this. We have seen it before.

"We have seen players sent off at Old Trafford and we do not see our opponents sent off.

"It is part of the game. But to complain and to always have an advantage is not fair.

"During the respect campaign, and this is a fact, Mr Ferguson was charged by the FA for improper conduct after comments made about Martin Atkinson and (the FA's) Keith Hackett.

"He was not punished. He is the only manager in the league that cannot be punished for these things."

"How can you talk about the respect campaign and criticise the referee every single week.

"Then he was talking about the fixtures. Two years ago we were playing a lot of early kick-offs away on Saturdays when United were playing on Sundays - and we didn't say anything.

"Now he is complaining about everything, that everybody is against United. But the second half of the season will see them playing at home against all the teams at the top of the table, it is a fantastic advantage.

"But at Christmas, United played on December 29 and the rest of the teams played on the 28th. We were away against Newcastle two days after playing Bolton. They were playing about 40 hours later, they were not complaining then.

"If he wants to talk about fixtures, and have a level playing field as you say in England. There are two options if we don't want more problems.

"One is (to have the same system) as in Spain, the draw for the first part of the league is known, everyone knows which weekend. In the second half everyone plays the opposite, so you all know.

"Sky and Setanta have the rights to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"There is another option. Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple.

Benitez finished off by criticising the conduct of United officials when Liverpool play matches at Old Trafford.

He added: "We know what happens every time we go to Old Trafford and the United staff.

"They are always going man-to-man with the referees, especially at half-time when they walk close to the referees and they are talking and talking..."
