The game needs rid of him. That punishment is stupidly small.

So basically all he got for this violent attack was a suspended sentence from the courts and 6 game ban and £25,000 fine (probably 3 days work).

Utterly despicable.

Talk about bringing the game into disprute.

Mutu gets £13,000,000 fine for a cocaine
Barton £25,000 for a yet another brutal attack.

Good point. Put the two punishments next to each other and they don't make sense - especially when you consider that Mutu was getting busted for the first time for failing a drugs test, whereas Barton is a violent, repeat offender.

Looking ahead, we're their next opponents and I'm hoping that we'll be able to take advantage of the situation and totally destroy them. Sorry B&WToon, nothing personal but it has to be done, especially if the loathsome Dennis Wise is at the helm. One day you'll thank us for it. ;)

No offence taken at all, mind, come matchday its ferk off

There's been talk of a boycott by the disgruntled Geordie faithful, at least for the next home game and possibly until Ashley is gone. I await the appointment of the new manager with interest.

There won’t be much of a boycott but there will be a response verbally and financially there is a boycott on buying anything from the club shops, at the match and the club bars. I hope the away fans join in even though it’s overpriced crap anyway. There is also a Boycotting of Mike Ashleys shops. There are further plans in the pipeline.....

Unfortunately Mike Ashley is away on holiday in Barbados so won’t be attending!

Oh, in case the rest of the world didn’t know, those morons who appear on the telly outside of St James’ Park are not a fair representation of the folk of Newcastle upon Tyne – it is cringeworthy!!!

But then again so is the club itself.

I don't think the fans they picture outside most stadiums are a fair reflection, to be honest. I know when they 'send a reporter to Humberside [sic]' I always feel quite embarrassed by the hairy, peg-toothed, tattoo'd, 20-stone buffoons (and their boyfriends) that end up on the screen.

I've heard a lot of comments from folks saying they've torn up their season passes or have thrown their shirts in the bin – if they have (and I've no doubt some will be daft enough to do so) then what's the point? After all, you've already paid for these things so you're only cutting your nose off to bite your face. Ashley won't exactly be troubled by such things, he's already got your cash.

If what you say about there not being boycotting of games then that's good – it only makes it look like a section of the support is apathetic to what's going on. People need to get into the ground to publicly show their displeasure with the chairman, but still show their support for the boys on the pitch. I recommend that a ferocious Geordie backlash be staged at every home game from now on in. Well, from the 14th onwards. ;)

I refer you back to my earlier comment about the plot, and the fact we currently seem to be confused regarding its whereabouts.

There's been daft goings on in Glasgow this week which I've been trying to ignore but can't any more.

After Rangers 4-2 defeat of Celtic, ex-Celtic captain and current first team coach Neil Lennon thought it would be best to frequent a busy west-end bar. Words were said between some people, and Neil needed up needing hospital treatment.

The Scottish newspapers have ranged from "Lennon requires medical attention for minor injuries" (Scotsman) to "SECTARIAN YOBS NEARLY KILL LENNON" (Record).

Now there are always two sides to these stories. Side A say that Lennon was out for a quiet evening with his friends, not a drop of alcohol passed his lips and was set upon by yobs. Side B says that he was drunk and disorderly, his friends left him on his own because he was being an arse, he left the bar and came back looking for trouble. The truth is probably somewhere between the two.

A couple of things worry me about this. Sadly even in this day and age, I don't go out to a pub after an old firm game so I don't see why somebody with Lennon's reputation should. But maybe that's a bit sad that I can't. The whole event was caught on CCTV, yet the police or Lennon aren't pressing charges.

The most worrying thing is that for revenge some 'fans' posted the address of Rangers striker Nacho Novo on a forum, death threats were made and now he has a 24 hour police guard.

Does this happen in any other city?

I think someone should post in the amerian football thread with that just to see what they say.

Perhaps a name change to this thread might be in order. I always liked seeing the premier league thread title come up. This seems a bit short and can obviously cause confusion for those who mattscott the thread.

Any suggestions?

For those of you who listen to World Soccer Daily podcast there is an outstanding hour or so talking with the owner of Oldham Football Club in London (a League 1 side), describing the workings of the club from a perspective we often don't hear about. It's the podcast for Thursday of this week, and you really ought to take a listen. He talks about salaries, club finances, revenues, all kinds of things. It's really good.

Are you implying that Oldham is in London, or that the talk with the owner took place in London? Because, the former is certainly not true.

Yes, l caught that one and it was a great look into English league football from the owner's point of view.

I like World Soccer Daily, though the lead podcaster, Steven (a devoted Chelski fan), absolutely despises Liverpool and never, ever, ever mentions the Columbus Crew even though they acre currently top of the league. He's too busy moaning about how crap the LA Galaxy are....

BTW, for those who care, as of this week the LA Galaxy have officially had a worse season this year with Beckham than they did last year without him. :D

Yeah, the owner is from London. Sorry about the confusion. Oldham is, in fact, near Manchester.

Yeah, he only refers to Arsenal as The Scientologists also, so I feel your anger. It's generally a good show though.

The 2008-09 Pinko Commie Soccerball (played by effeminate foreigners) Thread might dissuade some of them. And it's quite a catchy title, too.

As is Accrington. ;)

there has been a drop in season ticket sales before the Keegan scenario developed so there will be some empty seats anyway, but most fans know how counter productive it is to not support their players. There has been a few reprts of people cutting up their season tickets and going to support Scumderland, but this is farcical. The diseased ones down the road are enjoying every second of this crisis and are know doubt the source of these reports.

Another rant: Sentanta showing the England games, not even highlights on any other channel,

Annoying the other way round for me. I have Setanta, but not Sky Sports. Over the course of a season I loose out. Of course the Blue Square premier rocks, but it's no EPL.

it’s that there are not even highlights on terrestrial TV for World Cup Qualifiers that’s a shock to me, never mind Sky not showing anything.

Accrington Stanley? Who are they?:p
Exactly!

Don't worry, I pay little heed to phone ins as a barometer of a club's general support – they always seem to attract the reactionary and unrealistic. I'm amazed myself at some of the comments I hear on the local radio after a match...

"I thought we looked terrible today – how the players expect us to pay our hard earned money to watch that shower I don't know! I've never seen anything so bad in all my years as a supporter."
"So were you at the game today, then?"
"No, I listened to it on the radio."

To be fair though, I know for certain one member of the Newcastle faithful who will have thrown his shirt away and won't be sat in the crowd among the fans at the next game... :p ;)

England team to play Andorra: James, Johnson, Lescott, Terry, A Cole, Walcott, Lampard, Barry, Downing, Rooney, Defoe.

Stuart Downing? No comment.

Fair enough. Agree myself now. I mean, ITV buy all the rights for the Championship, League 1 and 2, put a frankly **** effort of a highlights show on, then tomorrow... It's not even on!!! They have 4 channels and can't fit a one hour program in once a week, because of, you guessed it... X Factor. **** you ITV.
