Congratulations Chargers

Congratulations Chargers. You aren't going anywhere if you actually make the playoffs so by coming from behind to win today you have secured Scarface as your coach for another year. :p

Give the 9-5 Falcons some love in their turnaround

Matt Ryan has been an amazing rookie... should be a pro bowler
Michael Turner has had a stellar year... should be a pro bowler
The receivers are catching the ball, unlike previous years with Vick
The offensive line has been a surprise
The defense has been inconsistent, but improved

Haven't been a Falcon's fan in years... not since the 80's
But these birds are fun to watch

saints got put out today...probably going to the cellar. oh well, there's always next year.

i like matt ryan, even though i don't like his team at all. nice that they got out of their vick love affair they had for a while.

hope to see romo and to blow up in the latest episode of 'jerry's house'.

Glad to see they pulled it out in the end.

Like I said, you now have a "franchise" coach.

On another note... I wonder if Madden will be back next year. He really looks old and out of shape and doesn't seem to be into his job this season.

It's like he retired when the love of his life, Brett Farve, retired at the end of the season... and then became a traitor by joining Joe "I Want To Kiss You!" Namath's Jets. Sigh.

While he may be better than some starting quarterbacks in the NFL, he isn't the same Brett Favre that dominated with Green Bay in the mid-90s. He still has a (small) chance to go all the way.

Now that the hapless Steelers pulled off a 13-9 win, not looking like the dominant Steelers of just a few years ago, beating the hapless Ravens, and then maybe we can see Big Ben can coming back as a hero even though he's no Brett Favre. But he's still young enough to get another ring, even if he does not have hall of fame numbers. And the Steelers won their division tonight.

Ray Lewis is somebody who may have another run of greatness one day but he needs a better offense that can score to do their part of the job.

A player I can see who won't retire until he's way beyond his prime, whether that was in his 20s or 30s, is Kurt Warner. I predict he will play for a couple of more teams before he is ready to get pulled out, probably in his 40s, and maybe he has a ring left in him.

But about Favre, though maybe not this year, what if he and the Jets dominate the AFC next year and win the Super Bowl? It's not entirely unlikely.

This week has strengthened my AFC picks with Titans being first, of course, and the third strongest team by record, being the Colts, but coming in with 7 wins in a row, and Peyton Manning with a 90.3 QB rating. The concept of a Manning Bowl is not really that far off the mark. But Indy still has to get past the Titans.

The NY Giants may face trouble with a couple of strong NFC teams but their path looks cleaner to the Super Bowl than Indy's through the AFC. I still don't count out the Patriots, either as strange as that may sound for a wild card spot. But the NY Giants lost to the Cowboys tonight. Maybe Dallas can clinch a berth this season. I wouldn't call this year a Cowboy's year, but next year they can tighten up and be the NFC threat and they can stop the December-Romo curse. His rating right now is 96.9.

Titans were a major disappointment today. Major. The team needs to do some serious soul-searching on offense and get a miracle turnaround for Albert Haynesworth on defense. When I posted earlier I had forgotten that one of the guys in the D-line rotation - Vickerson - is actually out on suspension because of that stupid weight loss/ doping controversy. For whatever reason (the same substance is involved so I don't know why he was different), he wasn't included in the NFLPA's appeal and is serving his time. Anyway, with him out, we're down to rookies during a very difficult stretch.

This leaves a wide open field if that's true. Let's see, Romo and Big Ben are hurt or just plain slow at this point in the season, something is not quite kosher with Eli Manning if you saw him tonight, WR Owens is at odds with his team, Arizona can't keep up with Warner, the offense of the Ravens is not the world's best despite their very respectable #11 rating on offense, the Jets are hit and miss as is their QB, but Carolina and Indy can step up as can a few other teams. But something tells me the Titans will cruise through the entire playoffs, at least to AFC championship, and are experiencing post division winner laziness.

Division winners Pittsburgh and Arizona have to really worry every step of the way. The Titans will have some worries, but I don't think much. But we will see when the playoffs get under way and progress.

Glad to see my Cowboys pulled out a win this week. We needed it. Especially since the Falcons won there game.

Being a new fan to the Cowboys and seeing all their QBs with records, rings, titles and not one of them approaching an 85 QB rating, and seeing Romo with a 96.9 rating this season, I am extremely hopeful for Dallas in the post season.

Their likely run in the playoffs will have to go through the NY Giants and that is scary since the Giants will be out for blood.

If Dallas makes it to the Super Bowl, they will most likely have to face the Titans. Yes, I hope Dallas gets there but meets anybody in the AFC besides the Titans or Indy. If it were to take on the Titans, the Titans would shut down Dallas. If it were Indy, I don't think Dallas can contain Peyton Manning.

I am hoping for someone like an AFC wildcard to make it to the Super Bowl and face Dallas on those terms. That way I will feel pretty good about things.

Still, Romo is obviously hurt and can't scramble and that takes away half his talent. If Romo were not so injured and in pain, I think he could give the Titans a run for their money.

Anyway, I think this year is simply destiny and the Titans will win this thing. Vegas has them clearly on top for the AFC championship. If the Giants lose, and lose big in the remaining games, and Dallas puts up huge points from now on, then I think Dallas will be the NFC team to watch.

My heart says Dallas, especially after their recent game, but my brain tells me Dallas is for next year. Anyone who faces the Titans, if they get their injured players well, will lose by 28 points.

The last time I saw a team tear through the late season/playoffs/Super Bowl were the 1989 49ers and the 1985 Bears, basically teams of destiny.

The Titans, imho, may be the first team in the Super Bowl to hold their opponent to 0 points.

This Titans fan appreciates your confidence, but doesn't have as much confidence in the team. I just heard that Haynesworth has an MCL sprain, so he should be back by the postseason. Vickerson should have finished his suspension and Vanden Bosch will have hopefully recovered for good (he's had a nagging groin injury most of the season). All told, the defense is looking like it won't be overly depleted. BUT, they haven't managed a shutout all season so I don't see why it would happen in the SB... especially if problems on the other side of the ball persist.

I'm actually hoping for a Titans SB against Carolina. They currently appear to be the best team in the NFC because of their rushing game. Giants are looking vulnerable recently and the Cowboys, well, too many egos on that team. I predict they implode before they explode... but I'm from Houston. I tend to expect the worst from them.

I just think it's a destiny thing, and being hungry with no rings (but I have to double check on that having had different teams win so often besides the 3 with NE). People who are good at defense become really good in the super bowl, and same for offense, but like Madden says, good defense always beats good offense.

Here I am in California, and all I see besides sad stories of the Raiders and Niners is how "great" the Titans are this year. People are wearing their logos everywhere much like people were sporting Red Sox hats the year they won the World Series as the Cinderella team of baseball. The Red Sox that year were a destiny thing. Down three games in the AL against the Yankees, and then coming back, and later winning the World Series. Many baseball fans are superstitious, and that year the Babe Ruth curse was put to rest. He he, now watch the Yankees dominate the Red Sox in regular season for the next 100 years. :)

Titans and Carolina, that's more than merely probable. Carolina is no stranger to the big game in recent years so they may still have some of the same guys. That would be a great game and I would not know who to root for.

That's kind of neat. The only place I've been where I've seen a lot of Titans logos is Tenn. It is true though, I suppose. I see a lot more people wearing Titans stuff around here (Iowa) than I did last year. I've got a silly Titans beanie I bought cheap during the offseason. Little did I expect I wouldn't be the only Titans fan in Iowa!

hahahhahahahahahhahaha the Cowboys-Ravens game was hilarious.

Cowboys were down 9 with about 5 minutes left and drove down and scored a touchdown with ~3:50 to go. (19-17 Ravens)

On the Ravens first play, McGahee ran it 77 yards for a touchdown. (26-17 Ravens)

Cowboys drive down the field again and Witten catches a touchdown pass with ~1:30 to go. (26-24 Ravens).

Cowboys kick it deep because they have 3 timeouts. On the Ravens first play, McClain runs it 82 yards for a touchdown. (33-24 Ravens) Game over. Cowboys lose the final game in Texas Stadium.

Maybe the ESPN idiots will finally stop saying Romo is one of the elite quarterbacks in the NFL, because he clearly isn't. He always ***** the bed whenever it matters.

Also, 18-1.

lol.

I love when people bring that up. Its not that big of a deal. You can't win them all. Boston still has 3 Super Bowl rings, 2 World Series rings, and 1 NBA championship in the past 7 years.

The Red Sox were a game away from going back to the series last year (without their ace and starting 3b) and are only going to be better next season as their young players get better. The Celtics are the defending champs, 25-2, have won 17 in a row, and are much better than they were last season. The Bruins are 23-5-4, first place in the Eastern Conference, and a Stanley Cup contender. The Patriots lost the reigning NFL MVP 7 minutes in to the season and are still in playoff contention. And Brady will be back next season and the Patriots will once again be a top 5 team in the NFL.

So even with the Super Bowl loss last year, it's still a great time to be a Boston fan.

the cowboys should have onside kicked the ball with less than 2 minutes left, give yourself a better chance to win, despite the low success rate of onside kicks. dumb.

and yes, the cowboys are overhyped and overrated and have been forever. it's been over a decade since they won a playoff game (you wouldn't know it by watching espn and the rest of them). romo is good, but not an elite qb. he chokes in the clutch, much like arod. i hope to see the cowboys out of the playoffs to see the media cry.

btw, did anyone have flashbacks of the mets shea stadium finale with this game?

Brady will not be the old Brady anymore. It won't be a cake walk next year for the Pats. I won't get into the rest of Boston's teams as this is a football thread.

Brady will be fine. He's not a quarterback who relies on his mobility to make plays, and that will be the only thing that's severely effected by this injury. The reason Brady is so good is because he's one of (along with Peyton) the smartest players in the NFL. And I don't think a torn ACL is going to effect that.

I know I know. I'm just teasing you. :) With the Ravens winning, the Pats could potentially go 11-5 and miss the playoffs.

I agree. He also has Welker and Moss to throw to. Good grief. The interesting offseason development will be what happen to Mr. Cassel who will be a free agent after this season. Anyone want to take a guess where he'll end up?

Down to four teams, statistically

Based on late season surges, and all season consistency, yards, sacks, numerous articles, etc, I see four to six teams in the running.

My #4 pick) Steelers?...maybe but not at this point w/o proper offense clicking like they can.

#5) Carolina?...also maybe but to get past Giants? and,

#6) Arizona?...great, great QB but not ready for whole team to make the Super Bowl this year unless defense steps it up all the way.

But all great teams with great years and certainly world's better than my Niners or Raiders. :)

But I now narrow it to three.

AFC will bring either 12-win Titans (many people's #1 pick) or 11-win Colts to the Super Bowl. Anything else would be a surprise to me.

The NFC will bring the 11-win Giants.

Ultimate prediction of this scenario?
Titans v. Giants, my #1 and #2 picks

Prediction I am hoping for?
Colts v. Giants, the Manning Bowl, but maybe that's for next year?

Here's what I am guessing:

Titans 21, Giants 17

Manning gets held to just one passing touchdown and two interceptions and/or sacks at key moments. Titans ride the wave of destiny and become America's sweetheart team.
