Ugh. Steelers. Ugh.

So I'm pulling for the Cards, I guess.

Hey so am I. If I put personal preferences in here, during mid season, I would have said in their weak division, the Niners would have gone all the way. They didn't, of course, but they had some late season bright spots.

However, the only two factors I see that are Super Bowl caliber is the Cardinals QB and a couple of offensive players vs. and entire, maybe even legendary defense in with the Steelers. Another steel curtain, perhaps?

Some say, Warner just needs to get a couple of touchdowns past the Steelers but so many great QBs have tried that and failed over and over this season. If Warner gets two touchdowns, and let's say the Cardinals add a field goal in there, then they will win.

The friendlier conditions of the Super Bowl (no snow) almost always makes any defense step up. In contrast, bad weather somewhat slows down a defense but really hinders any offense.

The only thing I can predict for sure is that Arizona will not have to worry about the weather AND the Steelers and that is a small plus.

I hope Clark has his head on a swivel.

There has been, and only ever will be one and only one "Steel Curtain" D. No other team belongs in the same zip code, let alone same sentence with them. What those teams did,and in that era, will more than likely never be repeated again..

If the Steelers hold the Cardinals to a field goal or two, or just one touchdown, or hold Warner to very low yardage, and at the same time stop the run effectively, there will be talk of this years Steelers being another Steel curtain, especially if they get another ring somewhere in the next few seasons.

If this Steelers' D is who I think they are, the Cardinals will score less than 10 points on game day. But that with the Steelers' offense fighting for a mere 14 points themselves. This will be perhaps one of the lower scoring games in many years.

Several "if's" there, very big ones I may add. Let the current Steeler's D dominate the way the SC did,and win at least two more rings AND send at least as many players to the HOF..Then,they can start to be mentioned as another SC..Until then, there's no comparison..

Though I am rooting for the Cardinals, it would be fun to see another Steel Curtain.

Remember Super Bowl 9? The steel curtain, which at their very best, held opponent to just 6 points while the Steelers only got 16 points of their own.

Other great defensive games in Super Bowl matches were last year when the Giants defense held their opponent to just 14 points while their offense only got 17 points.

Super Bowl 7- Only 14-7, Dolphins

Super Bowl 5- Only 16-13, Colts

Super Bowl 3 - Only 16-7, Jets

This upcoming Super Bowl may end up being teams both shy of 20 points each due to the Steelers great defense and their lousy offense. But some Cardinals fans would love to say, if the Cardinals win, that they had a great defense all along, too.

It's time to bump this message thread to make our Super Bowl predictions! :D

I say Steeler 27, Cardinals 20 as Steelers RB Willie Parker finally gets going and scores the winning TD within the last four minutes of the game. :)

Brett Favre retires....again.
Without the tearful public ceremony that accompanied his retirement announcement from the Green Bay Packers just 11 months ago, quarterback Brett Favre has told the New York Jets he is retiring.

Favre had instructed his agent, James "Bus" Cook, to inform the Jets on Wednesday that he is retiring. Jets team executives and coach Rex Ryan confirmed the retirement in a statement, saying they talked to Favre on Wednesday morning about his decision.

And yet somehow I see it as the smartest move they made since they drafted Barry Sanders...

What about drafting Calvin Johnson? If there was only a servicable QB behind that terrible O-Line, CJ could make things happen.

That said, maybe you're right. Favre deep to CJ all day?

Of course it would require the Jets to trade him to a division rival of GB thus forcing them to give GB some high round draft picks due to the trade agreement.

I think he's done this time, but of course I probably would have said that last year after his announcement.

If he comes back he'll be a laughing stock - unless he performs like a monster. He should go out with a little grace and dignity...

I think he pretty much shot that option in the foot with last year's debacle. Not that GB's management doesn't bear at least half of the blame...

His performance down the stretch in December didn't help him at all. Not to mention the tension he caused in the locker room and the battles he had with the Penguin..In addition to that he wasn't calling his own plays, had to learn a whole new system/offense and wasn't "the main guy"...Detroit was 30th in the league in rushing. Favre w/o some resemblance of a running game would be brutal.

Aint that the truth. I never thought I'd miss Chad Pennington.

Quoted for Truth and for the biggest understatement of the year.

Chad was always a stand up guy in NY. He's got a great football mind, his arm just isn't all that much (long passes, though he's shown he could do it every now and again).
