went to the dodgertown game today. that place is so awesome, too bad if you haven't gone yet, you'll likely never will. it's just a blast to the past with that one, it feels like the 1960's, a better time, away from the chaos of the rest of the world for a few hours.

also met plascke from the la times, he says mets easily win the east because of santana. me and my lady friends were saying that wille can't motivate this team to get over their chokes and that they are hurt and santana can't do that much at all. he says i'm crazy for picking the braves and phillies for the division though. he mostly talked about baseball and the laid back midwest as he was taking in the spring training games.

i'll probably post some pics in the pictures forum tomorrow.

i think i jinxed laroche...

i talked to him a bit before the game, and now he's out 8-10 weeks.

VERO BEACH, Fla. (AP)—Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Andy LaRoche tore a ligament in his right thumb Friday and will need surgery that could sideline him for eight to 10 weeks.

Nomar Garciaparra, competing with LaRoche for the starting job at third base, was hit by a pitch on his right wrist during the Dodgers’ 6-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. X-rays were negative and he will be reevaluated on Saturday. He is day to day.

LaRoche was injured while attempting a pickoff play at third when the ball deflected off his thumb. A time and date for the surgery has not been set.

Garciaparra batted .283 with seven home runs last season for the Dodgers. LaRoche hit .226 in 35 games last season. He had one home run.

Yeah, that sucks. For better or worse, Garciaparra is our third baseman until May at least. The really weird thing is that Nomar was hit by a pitch a few minutes later and they both went to the hospital at the same time. Fortunately, he is okay.

The Dodgers are really hobbling through the preseason. Kent is out, Saito is out, Schmidt is still out, and now LaRoche. Looking for bright spots, Jones hit his first homer of spring training and Yancy Brazoban appears to be back at full strength.

nomar was injured before laroche came in the game, just to correct that. actually have a pic of that, but the funny thing was, nomar's looked like it was more serious than laroche's, although laroche is going to be sitting out for two months now.

and talking about pics, here's the gallery of pics from me of the vero experience from friday here.

I have to agree with you. I've been there many times (my HS baseball team used to have spring training for two weeks in Vero Beach). It's a great place and great little park for spring training. I once had seats right behind home place (cost like 12 bucks a piece from some guy who needed to sell two) when Gagne was at his best. What sucked was he threw like 4 pitches before a ground ball bounced off his shin and he had to leave the game - they were great pitches though!!:). I also saw a fight in the right field bullpen one time, where I had seats right next to it and the teams went from the dugouts to the bullpen. Quite the reverse of what it normally is!! Great memories.

Right, I did read it that way but misremembered. Nomar said that the ball just missed the spot of his previous wrist injury. They are now saying at least eight weeks for LaRoche. We probably aren't going to see him again before June.

Thanks for the Dodgertown pics! I especially liked the one of "Vin Scully Way."

Twins fans will be hating themselves today after seeing the box score of the Sox-Mets game.

Lester:
4.0 IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 5K

Santana:
4.0 IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 4K

Welcome back zioxide!

Is spring training over yet? I wants me some actual games.

Santana's ERA will or should be going down as much as a run per game. Great pick up by the Mets, now only if they can get healthy.

:p 15 days until the season opener in Tokyo. It's at 6AM EDT, that's gonna suck getting up for lol.

Yeah he's going to be good. And after seeing how Lester matched Santana perfectly today the Twins fans must be pissed they didn't get him lol.

That's dedication. I cherish my sleep more than a baseball game. If anything DVR FTW!

Absolutely ridiculous that the Twinkies did not offer him a contract extension. The NL East should be interesting (well, for the 3 teams that'll be contending for the NLE crown)

When the Yankees played Tampa in Tokyo a few years ago the best thing to do was to pull an all nighter and watch the game at 6 am.

Not when you have class at 10, 11, and 1:30 after the game.

just go to bed early the night before, like between 9 and 11 pm and set the alarm for 6 am. that should do it.

Yeah that's the plan.

So it looks like Beckett is going to miss the Japan trip (back soreness ). That means Lester is going to be the opening day starter. He's been great in his past two spring starts, so hopefully he will do well. If Matsuzaka's wife has her baby on time (March 19th i think) then he will start game 2.

The Yankees and the National Hockey League are continuing to work toward a deal that would permit the New York Rangers to play a 2008-09 regular-season game at Yankee Stadium next winter, the New York Daily News reported on Monday.

"It's something we've spoken both to the Yankees and to the city about," NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told the newspaper, "but it's not a done deal. There are still other possibilities and a lot of moving pieces."

"We have had discussions with the NHL and the city for some time now," Yankees spokesman Jason Zillo said. "To date, there is nothing etched in stone, one way or the other. The dialogue is open, but there is no conclusion to a game being played or not being played at Yankee Stadium.

Since officially opening its doors in April 1923, Yankee Stadium has hosted many events other than baseball, including championship fights, professional and college football, soccer, political assemblies, religious conventions, concerts and even circuses.

But it has never seen a hockey game. In past years the Yankees have been reluctant to embrace hockey at the stadium, because the playing surface could be damaged by the refrigeration pipes needed to build a temporary rink.

Well the question is should the last ever sporting event to be played at Yankee Stadium be a Hockey game. Personally I would love to see the Final game be a World Series win. I understand why the Yankees would let the NHL in as the field would be of no use anymore. But is that the proper way to send off the place. I could maybe see the NY Giants play one more football game there. Since it was done in the past.

Ok so the question at hand is "Should the last event at Yankee Stadium be a hockey game or a baseball game?"

As much as I would love to see me and Islanders v Rangers Outdoor Hockey game (rumor is it's gonna be Rags/Bruins... gotta keep the Boston/NY theme), the last thing that should be played at The Cathedral™ is a Yankee game

Personally I'd like to see the last game in Yankee Stadium with the Red Sox winning Game 4 of the ALCS. :p

What I want to know is why there hasn't been more outrage about them tearing down Yankee Stadium. When they proposed replacing Fenway Park like 10 years ago everyone was pissed and there probably would have been riots if they would have went ahead with the project.

With all due respect Fenway probably needs to be replaced more then the stadium does.

Yankee Stadium is not the same 1923 building. It was gutting to the bone in 1974. So it really isn't the house that Ruth built. The building is old and out of date. Bathrooms are far and few, and the city as been sued many times for the building not being handicap accessible.

But the main reason is luxury boxes.

If I am right the only reason there is not a new Fenway is that there is no room for it. How many more seats can they fit on the roof without it caving in.

I will be sad to see the place go but eventually everything must go. You cannot keep everything running forever. Plus the Yankees are flipping the bill. 1 Billion to be exact.
