With all due respect Fenway probably needs to be replaced more then the stadium does.

Yankee Stadium is not the same 1923 building. It was gutting to the bone in 1974. So it really isn't the house that Ruth built. The building is old and out of date. Bathrooms are far and few, and the city as been sued many times for the building not being handicap accessible.

But the main reason is luxury boxes.

Fenway isn't going anywhere. They've been making loads of improvements each off-season since Henry & co took over. This year they've replaced all of the bleacher seats, replaced what were the "temporary" boxes that were set up for the 1999 All Star Game, and they're building a restaurant under the center field bleachers. I've read some thing that they're going to replace all the old wooden seats in the grandstand by 2012 (the 100th anniversary).

Isn't Fenway a fire trap tho. I have heard that it takes 45 minutes to get thought the concourses.
What is the plan for Yankee Stadium after the Yankees move to the new park? Surely not demolition.
Part of the deal with the city is that it will be turned into a park. Little league and softball fields. The new stadium is being built on park land so they are going to swap. The city still owns the land of both sites.

Demolition.

They have to give back the park they took away from the community in order to build new Yankee Stadium.

EDIT: I have some pictures of Yankee Stadium(s). I took a tour at the end of February. Watch here for a link.

When I was there last year it only took like 10 min. If they ever build a replacement park for Fenway, there's no way people will let them demolish the old one. Except I expect they'll keep doing refurbishment and renovation to Fenway instead of replacing it any time soon.

Here is a grab from Google Earth.

The running track to the north is where the new stadium is being built. Old images of course.

Some more info,
The new stadium will be 63% bigger. but 3,000 seats less.
Rather then cram a bunch of pictures, heres a link. New Stadium

Astonishing. And here I thought New Yorkers had a better sense of their own history.

Likewise. I don't want to see that historical site be torn down. The same goes for Fenway and Wrigley.

I honestly wish I could've seen Ebbets Field.

I've noticed the Dodgers are doing a little work themselves. Anything major?

And for those keeping track at home. It's been 50 years since the epic move to LA.

What about Shea. Gonna miss that one too.

Think about this, there are 5 new stadiums being built in or around NY.

Nothing huge. The field-level boxes were extended some and all the seats were replaced over the last few years. They are doing some work on one of the concourses this year. Fortunately, all the talk about moving the park somewhere else has faded away.

This year the Dodgers will open their season with an exhibition game against the Red Sox at the Colosseum, recreating their original season opener in '58.

So what? Are you saying it's no longer a NYC landmark?
Of course it is, it is the most famous arena in sports. But I don't think it can last forever. No building can. There are only 3 left, Yankee, Fenway, and Wriggly. Will they all last forever untouched for the next 50 years. Money has a lot to do with it.

Yea, I just checked out some pictures from construction. They seem to be adding new concessions and bathrooms.

Is the stadium really in a bad spot? I mean it does look antiquated, but surely there's some life still left in it.

Ooo that's awesome. Loves me some baseball history. (or history recreation in this case)

Oh. My. God.

That broke my knee caps.

You've got a better chance of seeing Britney Spears drop 20 lbs. and resurrect her career than you do of seeing a new ball park in Boston..

Is that because they don't want it or there is no place to put it.

Yeah, both. They were going to tear down some buildings when they proposed the new ballpark back in like 97. Then everyone in the city was like "**** NO, you're not replacing Fenway."

I remember my cousin saying that it would be way on the edge of the city.

The proposal was that it was going to be right next to Fenway to the west.

Then they were going to get rid of part of the old one and turn the rest in to a park/museum.

Here's an article about it: http://www.ballparks.com/baseball/american/bosbpk.htm

Did they give an actual life span for Fenway. If they keep the up keep on it as much as they can. Will they get to a point that they can't do anymore with it.

The thing with Boston and the way it's setup it kinda makes it hard, if not impossible to put up a brand new stadium. You have to remember that Fenway hold like 36k (correct me if I'm wrong). You're talking about a new stadium with up-to-date amenities and luxury boxes, the foot print will most definitely increase dramatically. Don't forget about all the traffic if people drive.

And there's no chance in hell you're moving the team out of the city.
