I would put RFK Stadium, Atlanta-Fulton County, and Shea in that category too, although Shea isn't enclosed.

yeah, i honestly couldn't remember who all had them... i have been to riverfront quite a few times..

i think i also could have included, maybe, the following: fulton county(braves), oakland alameda(sp?)(raiders,a's)

of course, seems most of the examples i've listed in this post and the previous one, have been torn down..thankfully!

If anyone wants to see some good train wreck baseball today, Billy Crystal will be batting lead off for the Yankees today.:p
The Yankees are ready to add a touch of Hollywood to their roster, announcing their plans to sign actor and comedian Billy Crystal to a one-day contract during Spring Training.

Crystal will sign the contract and work out with the Yankees at Legends Field on Wednesday, before playing in the club's game on against the Pirates on Thursday. Commissioner Bud Selig approved the Yankees' extension of a contract to Crystal.

"I've been waiting 50 years for this call," Crystal said. "I'm overwhelmed by the generosity of the Yankees and Commissioner Selig. I know this'll be tougher than the Broadway Softball League, but I'm looking forward to helping the younger players -- by the way, which is all of them."

Crystal, who turns 60 on Friday, will wear uniform No. 60 in the game.

Matsuzaka's wife gives birth to couple's second child

Daisuke Matsuzaka is a father again. Tomoyo, wife of the Red Sox righthander, gave birth to a boy Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m., the team said. The newborn, the couple's second child, weighed 6 pounds 10 ounces. No name for the boy was released.

Matsuzaka, who pitched four innings against the Orioles in a spring training game Friday afternoon, has joined his wife in Boston and is expected to return to camp in Fort Myers, Fla., in a couple of days.

There was some question as to how the timing of the birth would affect Matsuzaka's availability for the Red Sox' upcoming trip to Japan, where they will open the season against the Oakland A's March 25-26. With the child safely delivered, it appears likely that Matsuzaka will accompany the team to his native land, though the Sox have made no official statement to that effect.
Boston Globe

Good news. Congrats to the Matsuzakas. This also means Daisuke should be all set to make the trip to Japan. Most likely, it will be him and Jon Lester as the two starters for the regular season games.

Also from Extra Bases, Beckett is making good progress but most likely won't make the trip to Japan (good thing imo). He'll definitely be ready once the season gets in to full swing in April. Lugo is also back in the lineup today after missing like 2 weeks.

found this a bit interesting from yesterday. jim wolf was behind home plate umping while his brother, randy, was pitching. i bet jim wanted to get back at him for something...

Randy Wolf takes loss for Padres, despite umpire brother working home plate

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP)—Randy Wolf’s brother called all the balls and strikes, but it didn’t help the San Diego Padres’ new left-hander earn a win.

Wolf, who signed a $4.75 million contract during the offseason, allowed three runs—two earned—in four innings of work during the Padres’ 6-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night.

Jim Wolf worked the plate, something that isn’t allowed in a regular-season game involving his brother. Randy Wolf said this was the first time it happened.

“They were too busy swinging the bat for me to really have to worry about getting any called strikes,” he said. “I’d say it might be the only time, but it could happen again. He just throws it back harder than most umpires. I’ve always heard that from guys.

“He did a very good job.”

st. patty's day at roger dean

went to spring training at roger dean for the braves game today. while the braves wore non-fitted green caps for the game, the cardinals had green unis and also non-fitted green caps for the game.

here are the pics i took during the game. it was pretty windy and i had alot of obstructed views, so they didn't turn out as well as i hoped.

btw, the local station here did a feature on dodgertown closing down, since vero is in the market. didn't get to see it though because i was headed to the game at the time. perhaps youtube...

So as you all know I hate the Yankees. However, gotta give them credit for everything they did at VT today. It's definitely great to see when athletes can reach out to the community and do great things. Also nice to see a positive story about baseball in the national media since the last major bunch of stories have been about steroids and the mitchell report.

You hate the Yankees? I didn't notice. :p

Yea, that was very classy and definitely a good thing for all of baseball.

Is it the team that isn't paying the coaches? Ok so MLB promised to pay the coaches then backed out. Did they pay for the Yankees training staff 3 years ago?

So it appears that MLB and the Red Sox have reached a deal.

From what I read in the paper this morning MLB was giving the players and manager for each team $40,000 bonuses, but the coaches weren't getting anything.

EDIT:

According to the Globe's Nick Cafardo, the coaches and staff will all be receiving at least the $40,000 they originally thought they were going to get.

So during the whole boycott thing this morning the Sox sent Daisuke down to throw in the minor league game instead.

On his way to the minor-league complex to make his re-jiggered start, Daisuke Matsuzaka told Japanese reporters, “I was cut.”
