The only item of interest I can think of involving the Mariners is the rumor of Adrian Beltre potentially returning to the Dodgers.
Yeah, we're definitely ****ed now. I mean, the Sox are a whole 1.5 games out of first place!![]()
I could talk about the Mariners but there is not much to say about them.
Mariners lose.
Mariners over pay players.
Mariners sucks.
Mariners pick up players and they go to ****, trade them and they become All-Stars.

Hey, it could be worse. You could have Barry Zito or Carl Pavano.Mariners over pay players.

Unless Seattle is willing to pay most of his salary too, I say forget it. Unless they're willing to take Andrew Jones. That could work.

cowherd (from the northwest) said that seattle is the worst sports city in america, fans aren't really into it, etc.
If they deal Beltre, I assume it would be to unload his salary. Why would the Dodgers want him back at any price? Defensively he's excellent, but offensively he's had one standout season and mediocrity the rest of the time. And the Dodgers already have at least four guys who can play third competently. I can't believe that this is even a rumor.
I guess what I meant was that Jones is so bad and so expensive that I'd even trade him for a mediocre, overpaid player like Beltre.
Well sure, but who'd have him at any price? Sadly the Dodgers are stuck with Jones, or at least his salary, through next season. Management has to hope he either straightens out or breaks his leg.
I was hoping he'd do something stupid that violates his contract, like ride a motorcycle or something. Fantasy can be fun.
yea!! come on rays, keep winning and get into the playoffs!! (you can tell i'm desperate, the braves are awful and so are the padres)

and btw, the nl west is just bad baseball this year (all teams have losing records).
ESPN said that the Padres are giving up on the division and focusing on rebuilding for next year.since the giants 'O2 season the nl west has been very weak . didn' t the padres win the division with a sub .5OO winning percentage a year or two ago. i think it will happen again...

the padres actually finished 82-80, winning their last game of the year to clinch a winning record, despite spending much of the year under .500. i can see a sub-.500 team in the playoffs (although they should be dq'ed and replaced by the next wc team).
i would too. 38-63 and the worst team in baseball is enough to rebuild.
hasn't everyone in the west done that, lol...
by the way, 81-81 would have also been a winning record...

someone suggested if they finish under .500, the nl west winner shouldn't go to the playoffs and be replaced with the next wild card team due to bad play.
How do you figure that 81-81 would be a winning record?
You want the best teams to be in the playoffs. Why should a team with a losing record be allowed to make the post season. I don't know how you would reseed the post season but I don't think bad teams should get a free pass because they are the least horrible. It is almost as bad as the NBA letting 5 teams with losing records in.How do you figure that 81-81 would be a winning record?
Someone can suggest it if they want to. But they can't change the rules during the season.

I don't understand why the flagship franchises have not produced, The Dodgers and Giants. It can't be payroll or ownership, well maybe ownership. But why do these teams have such a hard time winning every year. They can't change the rules, period.
I also have to argue with the recurring myth that the NLW has been weak since 2002. Last year the NLW had the best combined record in baseball for most of the season and I believe it was second best by the end. And of course it produced the NL champions. Just because it reeks so far this year does not mean it has for years.
No. That is not the purpose of the division system.
