That doesn't mean much considering he's the son of a successful businessman. When you have a rich dad with connections backing you up, you'd have to be a complete screwup to not end up rich too.

That's basically my impression so far. He comes across to me as if he feels he is entitled, yet every time he takes the silver spoon out of his mouth to talk about baseball he just comes across as a buffoon.

Hank has said that he never took the spoon. He left the Yankees back i the 80's to work on the family farm and built it up on his own. The reason he left the team was because he didn't like the way George ran it.

And I'm saying that Yankee Global Enterprises LLC is a corporation. Obviously it depends on the corporation. So asking why MLB allows teams to be owned by corporations is not the question that gets to the crux of the problem.
The difference with Yankees LLC and Tribune owning the Cubs is that Tribune treated the Cubs as a branch of the company and ran it as such. The Yankees company is just that, it is the Yankees and that is it not a branch of a bigger group. They are not run as a subsidiary of a bigger corporation.

i'm starting to like this oliver perez person. my friend thinks he's a jerk and hates him, but he's great in big spots, but bombs it against the pirates or something. he's the anti-peavy (great, but stinks in big games). bad news is he's a filthy mut and they are in first place by himself. and of course, the met fan on the radio is having fun and singing (badly) and yelling, saying that the mets will win the east. i think they will collapse again.

For the last time, I know that. I'm saying your question of why MLB allows teams to be owned by corporations is silly because all of them are. It makes more sense to incorporate a large business as a corporation or liminted liability company (LLC) than to own it as an individual for legal and tax reasons. Has it ever worked out? Yes. The Yankees are owned by a large company whose owner is basically one man.

I guess the problem is with owners that are more worried about the bottom line than the team on the field. It seems that big companies worry about that more than the team. Of course that doesn't mean that some rich owner is any better. I just think it would be in MLB's best interest to find owners that will help the league not their own pockets. It seems that Selig is set against giving Mark Cuban ownership of the Cubs even though he would probably be a great owner.

The Yankees have acquired both Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte from the Pirates, WPGB's Rocco DeMaro reports.

Others have confirmed. No word yet on the return, but Melky Cabrera is still in the game for the Bombers. The team's top prospect, Austin Jackson, might be involved for that kind of return. The Yankees figure to have Nady rotate between the outfield and DH, but he'll be an everyday player. Marte will help set up for Mariano Rivera. The Pirates could make John Grabow their new closer and Steve Pearce their right fielder. Jul. 25 - 7:57 pm et

The Yankees need a good reliever and outfielder with Matsui and possibly Posada out for the season.

You're absolutely right. My post was knee-jerk and simply an attempt at humor. At the very least, Marte should be an awesome pickup for them.

The Yankees are not giving up much either.

Joba pitched a great game tonight. His first real test and he passed.

That was a pretty good game. Watched it a bit (muted) during the Mets' good showing. Pelfry is ridiculous right now if you consider where he was at this point last year. The Mets have won each of his last 9 starts, 7 of them wins to him. Went 7 full (5th starter in a row for the Mets) with no walks and 1 ER.

YES!

Tito finally grew some balls and benched Ellsbury. Hopefully once he puts him back in the lineup its not leading off.

Is Manny going to play today or did he bench himself again?

He's in the lineup according to the Globe. Guess his knee is feeling good enough to play.

I'm not buying in to the "faking the injury" crap. Manny's had a history of knee problems and has had tendinitis before. That can just flare up out of nowhere.

Now he's a guaranteed out
Manny has punched his ticket out of town. It's over. O-VA. Adios, amigo. Good night, Irene. Turn out the lights. Last night's 1-0 loss to the Yankees (think they could have used Manny?) was the proverbial last worthless evening.

Ramírez sealed his fate with the club yesterday afternoon. After longtime enabler Terry Francona filled out a lineup card with Manny batting fourth, the Sox made an announcement that Manny could not play in the biggest game of the season. Seems there were problems with his right knee. Manny was a late scratch.

It was extraordinary. In the past, management and the manager would do handstands to excuse Manny's strange acts. No more. This time, the manager - apparently confident there's nothing wrong with the slugger - put Manny's name in the lineup, then sat and waited for Manny to pull himself out of the lineup. Manny complied. Never concerned with wins or losses, Manny told Brad Mills he was unable to play and took himself out of the batting order for the (thus far) biggest game of the season.

Reason #291802 why FOX sucks and McCarver is a ****ing moron:

McCarver bitching about Manny not running out of the box after Manny BEAT OUT A DOUBLE PLAY in the first inning.

Tell that to the Red Sox fans I have sitting in my house that are pissed at Manny's antics. Always run out the ball, you never know what will happen.

The x-rays on Manny's knee showed nothing.

Tell them they should be Yankees fans instead then.

He had an MRI, not an x-ray. And many times an MRI won't show tendinitis.

All these Red Sox "fans" who are pissed at Manny need to shut the **** up or put their pink hats away. There is no ****ing way that the Sox will even make the playoffs without Manny, because there's no way to replace his production in the lineup without giving up the farm.

He's also 2nd on the team in games played (Pedey is 1st), so it's not like he's tanking it.

Of course, at the rate the Sox offense has been playing since the AS break, there's no ****ing way they'll make the playoffs anyways.

Ooh, JD Drew just crushed a ****ing home run to RF. At least a couple of people on this team can play offense.

A tool yes,but a very well connected tool thanks to the late Will McDonough. Not to mention the fact that the Globe's parent corp owns 17% of the Red Sox. Regardless, the Sox are in the driver's seat and both parties know it. If Manny hits the open market, there's no way he gets $20 mil/year. Cripes,a couple years ago the Sox put him out there for other teams to pick up (just for his salary) and there were no takers..It would his be his best interest to put up and shut up. Or does he get pouty and pissy and shut it down like he did a couple years ago when the Yanks came in and swept the Sox in August?? There's a lot I don't know, but one thing I do know,is that you never slam the guy that signs your paycheck. And I've been following the Sox for over 30 years.I'm far from a "pink hat".

With the trading deadline coming up next week,it's going to be interesting to see what moves are made in both leagues..
