Oh thank God, I was afraid I was the only one who saw that and when I told my mates they didn't believe me..

Im being serious here. When I saw I said "f***ing hell" because it surprised me. Even my bro whos a manu fan was impressed. Didnt he set up a goal with that little 'spurt?'

United, once again, get a great draw. Could hardly have fallen more in their favor actually....as someone else said, they are all but through to the final already - book the plane tickets, get the hotel reservations etc etc.

I still think Barca are going to make it to the final and win, although I really wanted to see Mourinho face Ferguson - that would have been a great tie and one that I would say could go either way.

while there could have been worse draws for united i would rate munich anything but a pushover ... their early season has been terrible but they have amassed so much bad luck this season that karma has to turn tables at one point ... they perhaps had a handful of games where both ribery and robben were able to play actually longer than 45 minutes and had more than 20 crossbar/post hits in the bundesliga alone

if they can play with the same defense for once actually without relying on 17 year old youngsters and pack ribery and robben into think layers of protection and keep the animal Müller under control they sure are dangerous to every single team out there

I completely agree - but I do not think they are a strong as Inter, and certainly not as strong as Barca. I don't think there's any question they are a good side, but I would much rather play them than Barcelona, and I'll wager Ferguson agrees with me on that.

Speaking of Fergie, his comments on the Gerrard elbowing incident were questionable. I agree with him that the current rule (no retrospective action if the ref sees the foul) is stupid, and I also agree that the FA is dysfunctional. But I don't think the rule has been applied inconsistently. Sour grapes from a man who has had the rub of the green many, many times.

The FA should drop that rule and allow retrospective bans for violent conduct or other serious fouls. Maybe they don't because such action nearly always relies on video evidence, and this is just one more attempt to keep the evidence hundreds of millions of spectators see with their own eyes out of the game...

About as good of a draw for United as was possible. Bayern has some dangerous pieces, but United just has to do what Fiorentina did, but better. And if United get through Bayern, I wouldn't so easily discount one of the two French sides, either.

I feel for Arsenal, though. What a tough bracket! But I think the tie against Barcalona could be surprisingly competitive.

Berbatov has been on pretty good form lately, the problem is he's been struggling with injury all season long and Rooney has been thriving at the top of the 4-5-1 so Berba hasn't had a whole lot of chances lately. Wouldn't surprise me to see SAF roll out with that formation again on Sunday - don't mess with what's working.

I don't even want to know about the acquisitions Barca and Real will make this summer. Irresistible force meets immovable object will be the best description of el Clasico next season.

personally i agree .. it's obvious that barca and inter are stronger at the moment but all the comments i'm reading with considering man united "walking through into the final" just sound exactly like english comments prior to the world cup

and bayern is one of those teams which are difficult to keep under control.. they aren't a "one man show" like barcelona is currently for example

Tickets for us at the Nou Camp are all going to be in level 5, which is so high Arsenal have to warn everyone before they buy a ticket that they are going to be "extremely high up", and every single one is £70. Wow...

...and we've lost arguably one of our best players for 3 matches which include Tottenham away. Thanks Ref. Gallas can't come back quick enough...if he comes back that is.

EDIT: Its just one match, which is better news.

Hopefully Liverpool and Blackburn do a number on Utd and Chelsea respectively tmr

I do hope for the former, Liverpool being the team I support. I think they are in good form and have been great vs Manu in the last games they played with them.

Hopefully Vidic gets sent off, it will help alot, Torres will be giving him nightmares again lol.

There will be no strike in MLS. Whew! I'm very relieved. Based on what I've heard on the agreement, the league got what it wanted overall, they still control all player contracts. It's a five year deal and you can bet that if the league continues to grow this "single entity" structure is going to continue to be a bone of contention till it is gotten rid of.

I think the key for Bayern will be getting a strong result at home and preventing more than one away goal by United, and of course preferably keeping a clean sheet.

Hehehe, let's hope that attitude stays with the English all the way to South Africa. :D

I think it was a very tough call to make, and could have gone either way. For what it's worth I think it was not a penalty but I don't think it was a bad call, even the slow-mo was tough to judge IMO.

C'mon Vidic, let's make it 4 for 4! :D

EDIT:
Kanu, who is rumored to be older than Ian Dowie, scored a winner for Pompey against Jaffa's boys. Thoughts on the new gaffer's performance, Jaffa? They don't broadcast the game till 8:30 EST tonight, I might flip it on for a bit. No Jozy, I see.

Bayern's defense doesn't look so hot and their goalkeeper is quite mediocre; and to make matters worse, their DM Van Bommel is going to miss the first leg due to suspension. I think United can get more than one away goal.

Fiorentina kept their attack in check pretty well. Just have to try to follow their template with the superior players United has at their disposal. Robben and Ribery (if healthy) will be tough to slow down, but I think the United wingers and fullbacks can work in combination to get it done.

Not saying it'll be easy by any means. Cautiously optimistic.

About tomorrow, however, I'm very, very nervous. United is in much better shape now than when they went to Anfield, but anything can happen.

Oh, and Liverpool drew Wolfsburg in the next round of the Europa League. United dispatched them fairly easily in both legs, but they have some very nice attacking quality in Grafite and Dzeko. Should be a good tie.

I didn't realise it was only 1 match - have you got a link? That is good news. Spurs have Fulham to replay in the FA Cup - if they win that our game with them get rearranged. I have to say, in my opinion, never a penalty, or a red card. High bouncing ball, is it really a definite goal scoring opportunity? And more importantly - barely any contact between the players. Vermaelen has only eyes for the ball if you watch the replay, and there is nothing in it. Grinding out the second half performance though, is, dare I say it, title winning stuff United always do. Still don't think we can do it though

Oh, I expect United to score two or three on the away leg. But from Bayern's perspective the focus is on a good defensive performance at home rather than a search for goals.

You should beat us easily, on paper at least. Our defense is distinctly average and we have not been scoring many goals apart from the Pompey match. The only positives for Liverpool are that Gerrard and Torres' form is improving a little, and we have a good record against United as of late. I have no illusions about our chances.

I think it was a goalscoring opportunity, but I don't think it was a foul - there a was a bit of mutual contact but Vermaelen was not intentionally impeding and I thought Franco sold the foul a bit.

Arsenal have been showing an uncharacteristic toughness as of late. I think they are too far behind to take the title (and still missing RVP), but they may push the leaders pretty hard during the run-in. United are relying heavily on Rooney, and Chelsea are not quite as strong as they looked earlier in the season. The top spot is still very much up for grabs.

606/SMS chatter on the BBC site say goal scoring opportunity is 1 match whilst violent/dangerous conduct is 3 according to the rule books. This was confirmed by a qualified Ref.

I also don't think it was a goal scoring opportunity because he never really had/looked like having control of the ball and upon that realization went down to buy a decision, which the linesman jumped all over...consequently forcing the Refs hand.

I actually think we can do it but we will need a great deal of luck in the form of us not drawing or losing any game whatsoever and United/Chelsea both dropping points.

I also get the feeling a lot of people want to see someone else beside Utd/Chelsea win the title.

Another gd news is that RVP might make it back before the season ends and Ramsey has started walking unaided according to Wenger

Blackadder - too far behind?! We're top of the league! ;) I know what you mean though. We need favours from other teams.. and also we need to remember they are playing each other, so points are definitely being dropped there - which way they are dropped will probably be important to us, but I can't tell yet which I want!

daneoni - okay, that does seem to make sense. I just instantly jumped to straight red, 3 games. Makes a big difference. I sort of am hoping Arsene sticks Song in there for our massive games vs. Barcelona, instead of Campbell.. he can play there, and his pace and awareness just seems preferable to what is always an exciting game with Sol! We'll see. Song was absolutely outstanding today - controlled the midfield first half, and then second half slotted straight into defence and looked the part.

Yes, Ramsey walking is very good news. RvP back is optimistic.. he may be playing football, but he will take time to rediscover any form I guess. Still, maybe in time for a crucial goal in CL Final vs. United..! :D

I do get the impressions that most neutrals want Arsenal to win it. I think it's pretty easy to see why - it's a change, we are the model of how to sustainably and sensibly run a football club, and we play beautiful football. If the deity in charge of footballing matters is listening..... please?!

Song definitely bossed the game today but generally everyone put in a good shift. Probably upping their game in prep for the Barca match me thinks.

I know RVP won't find form initially but he's return would further boost team moral even if they arguably don't need it at this point in time.

Also, yeah...if there is a football God...PLEASE!

against forientina they were playing with 17 year old Alaba playing his first champions league game ever in the starting team .. and you know when he played his first Bundesliga game ? 3 days earlier against Köln.. as a substitute in the 73. minute
as said before with the injuries the defense would look quite different

mediocre goalkeeper ? best scoring goalkeeper of the Bundesliga with 26 goals ;) and 4 goals in champions league (of which 3 against juventus turin with 3 different teams)
also he already was in the CL final once already
for years he was 3rd best keeper in german behind kahn and lehmann

and while bommel will be missed the repalcement tymoschuck is hardly a no name

Any neutrals watch the Liverpool match? Thoughts on the refereeing please...

The only neutral here, that I can think of, is Jaffa, everyone else either has an interest in Man U losing or supports Liverpool (yes I'm looking at you Lord ;))
