If true, it's great news. Financial problems in smaller clubs don't get enough attention, because they are a symptom of a more systematic problem. Plus, people seem willing to let smaller clubs get punished for becoming insolvent while the top four are considered too big to be allowed to fail.

True. You would think that the loss of Chester City and the possible winding up of both Stockport and Southend would generate some interest. When clubs the size of Portsmouth are going into admin there's something deeply wrong with the system that governs the game, and of course the lower down the pyramid you lie the less the people at the top care. The FA unfortunately are far too involved with the Murdoch money men and the big four to act.

We have a top flight where the big clubs are racking up hundreds of millions of Pounds worth of debt just to try and compete with one another, and where the clubs at the bottom of the ladder are pushing themselves to the brink of administration in order to keep their place at the table. But that's alright, because it's the Greatest League In The World. Ever.

Further down and it's feeding off the crumbs. County have hopefully avoided extinction, but there are a lot of other clubs with severe financial problems too. It would be nice though if their plights got a fraction of the attention and help that Portsmouth have had. Breath won't be held.

We were a matter of hours away from liquidation ourselves a decade ago — it certainly puts our current relegation concerns into perspective, I can tell you — but a new owner was found, new funding was secured, and this helped kick start a fantastic period for us. Hopefully County can follow a similar path in the years to come.

After the events of the past 16 months I'd settle for a long slow period of growth. Get back into League One, grow the attendances, nurture young talent and live within our means. Our club is 127 years old. We don't have to risk it all by rushing now. Let the sky blue idiots up the road spend unjustified millions attempting glory. We'll do it when we can afford it.

Just look at the National Football Centre - Burton - to see how well the game is run.

Oh boy, second penalty for Burnley, 1-3

Edit - well taken freekick by Elliot = 1-4, and a bit earlier Boateng booked for ?

Liverpool's new kit unveiled today with a new sponsor.

What do you think?

No Torres :p

Ouch. West Ham win, Hull lose.. I think that might just seal Hull's relegation..

Ah well, the axe finally fell today on our most recent spell in League One. It's such a bugger that this ownership issue isn't going to be sorted until mid-May at the earliest. Now would be the perfect time to start putting the new staff in place and try and generate some excitement about next season. As it is we have five more turgid games from a team who know they're mostly out the door in a months time to look forward to :(

Oh and I hate Burnley, so sorry to see your result Jaffa.

Apologies to Hammers fans, but frankly I'd rather see West Ham go down than Hull City, for the mere fact that the pundits go on and on about the history of the club and how it would be a shame for them to go down blah blah blah.

Relegation is a matter of arithmetic...if you are in the bottom three, you go down - regardless of your history, or how "big" the club is, or how nice the manager is, or if you play attractive football etc. And, frankly, there are a lot of clubs in the lower divisions with good fan support, attractive football, nice managers and a lot of history too. I don't like the idea that clubs "deserve" to stay in the Premier League for some reason beyond their points totals. It's as if people ignore the entire league system below the Premier League. Bah'

Poor Villa...very unlucky. That said Ashley Young was absolute *****...never really understood the hype. The wingers need to practice delivering effective/deadly crosses to their forwards. No matter how much running around you do...1 good pass is all it takes. That and a bit of luck.

Iain Dowie has a degree in Aerospace Engineering, or something along those lines. He ought to use his braininess to fashion some rockets and stick them up some arses.

What's Ashbee's status? It's always a bummer when the captain's hurt, especially a guy like Ashbee who has been with the club so long.

Does anywhere have anyone to watch El Clasico online?!

I haven't found a working link so far...

Another starring role for Mr Webb - possible penalty, Terry should've got a straight red, Deco deserved a second yellow, and he waited ages to book Mikel. Liked Lampard's response to being asked about the penalty shout, pointing out that even if Aston Villa had scored, Chelsea scored three.

Barcelona - MacBoobsPro was right about those quick short freekicks.

Cheers,
OW

Speaking of "footie," are there referees in the Premier League (or the other major soccer leagues in Europe) that are notorious for things like getting into arguments with players, handing out too many (or not enough!) yellow and red cards, or miss a lot of calls (or make too many calls) for things like offsides, handballs and diving? In short, making themselves a bit too much the center of attention?

I say this because here in the USA, Major League Baseball umpire Joe West is embroiled in a huge controversy because he claimed the games between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox (the MLB equivalent of Manchester United and Chelsea, in my opinion!) are difficult to officiate and results in too long games. The result is a lot of unhappy fans on both the Yankees and Red Sox who claim West is causing more trouble than it's worth.

United drop points. Oh dear...:D

Brilliant!!!

Let the top 2 places be decided between two London clubs... :p

BTW, I'm watching the 2nd FA cup semi final match.
As Chelsea is definitely playing in the CL next year, maybe the already relegated Portsmouth gets a place in Europe next season!

That would be nice for the tortured Pompey, eh? Just get a win over Tottenham. ;)
