Phil Brown has left Hull City!

The Club confirms that Phil Brown's contract has ended with immediate effect and that he is no longer the manager of Hull City Football Club.

We thank Phil for his significant contribution during his time as manager and we wish him well for the future. The Club greatly appreciates Phil's co-operation, patience and understanding throughout the conciliation process.

Three months since he was placed on gardening leave. Blimey.

In other amber-hued news, we've today announced a 'long standing' deal with Adidas which will see the tri-stripe toting Teutons supplying our polyester rags from July onwards. Of course, this is no news to us here as I hinted at the switch to Adidas almost a year ago... ;)

Good response by Arsenal to Barca's advances - but it all comes down to what Fabregas wants to do. If his head has been turned he might as well be gone already, for all the good it will do to try and keep him.

I consider Liverpool to have officially entered an era of uncertainty, though things have been uncertain for a while now. We need a top manager to take us forward, but that's only one piece of the puzzle and I feel that few, if any, top managers would want to take over under the current ownership.

I have a strong suspicion that it's going to be all downhill from here. And I can't see Rafa being able to fill the Special One's shoes at Inter, though Serie A suits his style better than the Premier League.

Striped shirts are my preference, and the one you're referring to was indeed a thing of great beauty – I'm wearing mine now, as it happens. :D

Unfortunately, Adidas have a tendency to issue all but the really big clubs with 'template' shirts – their teamwear range for 2010-11 only features one striped design that I can see, and that's the one that Stoke City have had foisted upon them...

The stripes have smaller dashed stripes running alongside them that I'm not keen on, and this shirt commits the heinous crime of having a totally plain back – something that will spoil any striped shirt, and something that is unnecessary for us because black and amber don't contrast against each other as much as some other combinations (like Wednesday's blue and white, for example), meaning that white numbering and lettering can be used and be easily visible.

The template is available in black and yellow – ambercize that yellow and I'm guessing next season's kit won't be a million miles away from this...

The only other option would be for us to get a Hull Cityized version of a striped shirt worn by another Adidas-clad team (Milan, for example), or for us to get a totally bespoke design. I think the former isn't that likely, and there's no way the latter is going to happen – they just don't do that sort of thing for clubs of our stature.

And to think – we switch from Umbro just as they're about to roll out their very lovely 'Tailored' range across all their club teams. Pah. :(

I think the plain back totally ruins the shirt. Adidas did the same thing to the template shirts they use in MLS - or at least that's what Columbus' away shirt has had done to it. I was going to buy one but I've held off because of the plain back.

The previous two Hull City designs were very nice examples of the stripes. I think my favorite striped design is Inter Milan's. (but the best Italian shirt design has to be Sampdoria IMO, it seems retro)

Rafa Benitez is the new Inter manager.

He inherits a great squad, one would imagine he will bring home silverware next season but he's not going to be able to repeat Mourinho's triple.

Now, who the hell is going to end up managing Liverpool? I don't think the club will be able to attract a top-shelf manager, but without one I feel we are doomed.

posh lad you....

the black and gold isn't too bad... i bet they get something nice for the amber magicians....

Is Kenny Dalglish going to be the next Kevin Keegan?

The Hodgson rumors continue. He's a quality manager, possibly more suited to Liverpool than Benitez was, but why would he want to leave Fulham when he's done so well there?

I'm pleased to have put your mind at rest. :D

Meanwhile, now that Brown has officially left we can officially appoint a new manager. Apparently we're going to name our new gaffer in the next seven days, Paul Hart has emerged as the favourite...

Arsenal v Liverpool on the opening day. Meh! We've got League 1 new boys Dagenham & Redbridge. Or, as the BBC put it
League One new boys Dagenham & Redbridge will start the new season at former Premier League giants Sheffield Wednesday on 7 August.
Giants eh? Must be all those PL titles and European trophies we won

Surely we'll need a 2010-11 thread soon.
Given that the 2010-11 fixtures are out, there's no reason not to start one – although I imagine it would be a bit quieter than usual due to the World Cup, which has its own dedicated thread of course.

If you fancy starting the 2010-11 thread, please feel free – I don't have a monopoly on starting soccerball-related threads or owt. ;)
