Referee brandishes 36 red cards in one match

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=TrHvzXK96GA

Wouldn't be Friday without some kind of loopy news story.

Haha saw this earlier, surely the referee could've just called the whole thing off and dealt with it later instead of running around brandishing a red card at everyone who moved?!

According to Wenger he may have taken his wife's slimming aid, but of course he wasn't in a position to see it ;)

I was surprised to hear Arsene pipe up about this! Quite interesting that the person who Kolo decides to call and talk to about this is Arsene... have heard this before about the ex-players keeping in touch with him.. I understand he speaks to Henry and Pires a lot.

Also my annoying banner ads I mentioned before - cleared all cookies, seems to have done the trick :D Thanks MR.

Curses. Wenger's just been handed the Manager of the Month award. Uh oh! I'm not sure if it affects non-Barclay matches so maybe the cup ties against Man Utd and Barca may remain unaffected.

So let's see who Arsenal have in the league this month - Sunderland tomorrow and West Brom on the 20th. Hmm, that's it, just those two. Can the jinx be broken?

They might not have a clue when it comes to goal line technology but fifa have managed to come to the decision to ban snoods from football from 1st July.

How will the poor things keep warm?

Nike will make a turtleneck version of their kit for next season.

We won the game but the ref/officials decided they were having none of it. Oh and he's (ref) also from Manchester...

Arsenal could not afford to drop points there.

Probably. FIFA is such a disgrace. They act quickly and "without any discussion" (by Blatter's own admission) on the unimportant snood issue, but they continue to stall over goal line technology.

Spot on Blackadder, FIFA is a disgrace. Why are they acting so quickly for something so irrelevant, and stumbling around with goal line technology or any use of video replays (could've bloody done with that today in our game)...? Makes you worry about the future of the game.

The more I see them the worse it is with the Arsenal decisions - Bramble throws himself at Arshavin with both hands, he's just desperate to touch him and push him in any way to push him off balance. Prick. And Arshavin's goal - wasn't even close to offside, if you watch the full video I linked where they pull it back to exactly when the pass was made - he's a good foot on. So annoying!

The push by Bramble was a stone-cold penalty, Arsenal were extremely unlucky there. The offside call was very tight, by initial feeling was they got it right but the slo-mo shows it to be very, very close.

EDIT:
Congrats to Jaffa's Hull City for ending Nottingham Forest's impressive 36-game home unbeaten run, and move closer to a playoff spot.

Not unlucky, jinxed I tellya! That accursed Manager of the Month award, can't even score legitimate goals with it hanging around the club's neck like a millstone.

At least Arsenal salvaged a point from the match. That 'destiny in their own hands' thing didn't last what, four days? Now it's back again to relying on other teams scoring and Man Utd dropping points to catch them. So today I don't think I'll be the only Gooner who will be a full on Liverpool supporter for 90 minutes, we'll never walk alooooooone.....

Edit - game on - almost halfway through my 90 minutes of being a temporary Scouser and if it ends like this then quite possibly Arsenal could actually draw level with Utd on 60 points if they win their game in hand.

...well it's going well thus far. Which makes yesterday's draw even more annoying.

*sings* You will never walk alooone

The way I understand it is that FIFA, in order to keep the sport as grassroots and as global as possible, have traditionally been reluctant to institute any rule changes or procedures that can't be adopted at as many levels of the game as possible.

Unbelievable, United heading for their second successive defeat. They've also lost arguably their best player all season.

If we win our game in hand it's back in our hands again...IF.

Also apparently Fergus has refused media interviews and ordered his players to do the same.

United's defensive performance today demonstrated just how important Ferdinand and Vidic are for Fergie's team. United created enough chances to win the game (Berbatov's shot had Reina beat), had their two excellent starting center backs been there to keep a clean sheet. But without them they were always going to be in trouble.

A very strong performance from Liverpool, and three absolutely classic Dirk Kuyt goals - not so much technique as hard work and good positioning. Suarez was very impressive today. He's a different kind of player from Torres but he shows huge promise. I think Dalgish's task was very simple - apply pressure to United's scratch defense - and he did just that. A huge result for Liverpool in terms of boosting morale, and a huge result for Arsenal in the title race.

Both Carragher and Raphael could have been sent off, Dowd chose not to do so and the best you could say about those decisions was that he was consistent. But after watching them in slo-mo you wonder how they stayed on the pitch.

I don't think it was so much the defense that did United in, it was the midfield wasn't in the game at all. Liverpool bossed the midfield and therefore controlled the game.

At least Carrick has signed a new contract. :p

It's true that United's midfield didn't give the back four much protection, but Ferdinand and Vidic have been in that situation all season, and have dealt with it. But you're right, their midfield had a bad day.

The way i see it, United has been lacking in the midfield for most of this (and last) season. Nani has been the one that has been keeping them going. Giggs/Scholes can't play 90 mins as much anymore much less play every match, Anderson has had good spells but isn't consistent, Carrick has been pretty much non-existent for most of it, ditto for Fletcher, Valencia injured etc

Blackadder is right in that the reason for a lot of the draws (late wins with super sub Hernandez) is because when the midfield has been lacking, the defense has been solid with one of those two (or both) in it. Today both were missing and United were truly exposed as a result.

I still think they miss/need a Ronaldo, Rooney covered for them last season, Nani/Giggs (and Berbatov at home) this one but the weakness is still there.

I agree, United still miss Ronaldo, and though Nani has had a good season the rest of the midfield apart from the Giggs and Scholes have been very average. This puts extra pressure on the defense and if it weren't for Ferdinand and Vidic they would have lost a lot more games this season. Hernandez has been a big contributor too, I think he takes some of the pressure off Rooney and Berbatov.

On Liverpool's side, while our defense is still not consistent our midfield is effective. Gerrard has been slumping by his standards but he's still not bad, and Maxi, Miereles, Kuyt and Lucas all put in good shifts. It will be interesting to see how Dalglish changes the shape of the squad when Carroll begins playing regularly.

United's midfield has NOTHING but bad days. Because they are NOTHING but BAD. It's not looking good when you think "Anderson and Park would have made a difference out there tonight."

I am sacrilegiously hoping Scholes calls it a career; his departure will force Sir Alex to finally buy a real creative midfielder to replace him -- Anderson sure isn't it, and Cleverley won't be the finished product for a couple more years.
