In summary, meanwhile, Ashley is a buffoon and an English club won't be winning the Champions League.

I wonder if these cans somehow be linked, along with the failed World Cup bid?:D:D

Five and a half years though, that is simply laughable.

i have seen the barca-kasan game with Messi, Xavi, Inesta and Puyol off the pitch
yes they dominated the midfield and possesion but without those players it seems on the attack they are simply not dangerosu enough:
and with having all those palyers in great shape _now_ it can easily happen that in a few months they aren't in shape or even 1-2 get injuries and then barca is screwed
currentlyi ismply think that madrid is more likely to suceed in the european circus

It's true, a few injuries might drastically change Barca's chances, and Real have Mourinho. I certainly won't suggest they are not strong candidates. But Barcelona look so good, they are all but invincible when they are on their game.

Schalke seem to be living a double life right now, but I have to think that something's got to change - either their European form will drop off, or their league form will pick up.

I wouldn't count the French out either, despite their crazy league this season.

yeah they look good with xavy, iniesta and most important messi.. in the second half against Kazan as soon as messi was on the pitch they looked 10 times more dangerous

though it always always depends on the second team on how good another team looks ;)

schalke seems the opposite to Dortmund who international has problems but in the league: domination

the german league is no different in crazyness this season .. could very well mean that in next season 4 completely different teams playing in europe

And that would be cool.

Imagine the Premier League if the Big Four didn't always qualify - sure, some of the teams would fail badly in Europe, but some of them would probably make entertaining runs.

The Barca shirt deal is an indication that the spending war has reached a new level in Spain. Barca can't afford to go without a shirt sponsor.

Ironic that Qatar, who essentially bought the World Cup, is the name on Barca's shirt now. They have bought football, in it's entirety.

Their deal with Unicef was always intended to get folk used to the notion of them having a shirt sponsor – donating the shirt to a charity was a nice gesture for sure, but Barca now sporting a paying sponsor isn't quite the shock it would have been otherwise.

And I'm with you on the sash shirts, oscillatewildly – I've said before but one of my all time favourite shirts is Crystal Palace's effort from the 1970s. Mind, I'm a tad too young to remember Striker, I'm more of the Jossy's Giants vintage...

Football's just a branch of science, you know.

Yes, I 've heard that said. I certainly don't blame them for going with a sponsor, though I relish the rare occasions that teams play without a sponsor on their shirt.

I know we've been overr this before, but what did you think of the USA shirts we sported at the World Cup? I didn't like them at first, and I'm still iffy about the home design, but I've since warmed up to the away shirt.

A few teams have tried that, we certainly did for one game although I can't recall if it was last season or the one before that. Didn't do much good, as it happens. :D

I'm giving it late February until the media are fed up about Holloway and the bad press starts...

I like the Hull City match versus Stoke where Deano warmed up in front of Delap as he took a throw. Quality yellow card offense. :D

I think it was Football Weekly where one of the podcasters expressed hopes that Holloway remains a likeable character and used Phil Brown as an example of a quirky manager losing the media. Phil Brown is an odd man, it's true, but the press certainly seemed a bit harsh with him. In the end, it's a results-oriented business and his team was struggling, so he became an easy scapegoat.

Indeed, and he committed the cardinal sin of making the pundits look like chumps. Rather than picking up less points than Derby the season before and failing to register a single win (as some were predicting) he kept us up and picked up some famous victories in the process. They don't like to be proved wrong, and the knives were out for him. ;)

Granted though, he didn't help himself at times — his handling of the media left a lot to be desired at times. I think Holloway and Blackpool started out with a lot more goodwill than we did though.

Who can forget Captain Marvel's appearance:

Crystal Palace - nearly the anniversary of a dark day for football:) They wore another style of kit I like - Ajax, 1970s Birmingham City ... Would like to see England wear a version.

Cheers

A predictable loss to Newcastle, yet another team that defends as badly as Liverpool but has more attacking power.

The pundits were calling it a "stunning or even "historic" victory but I don't see why anyone should be surprised we lost, given the fragile nature of our defending this season.

Meanwhile, Carlos Tevez has handed in a transfer request at Manchester City. I suspect that he might be trying to engineer a move back to South America, and hopefully it's not another instance of a player trying to wrangle an improved contract from his current club by talking of wanting a move...

Now that is surprising. I thought he was the topdog at City ^

Adebayo and Santa Cruz have also made notices apparently and Wright-Phillips looks set to follow suit. I wonder which forward players would be left. There are whispers of Lescott's exit too. The loss of Tevez would be a massive blow because he's the only thing good going for them.

Thats the media for you, a lot of things are stunning/historic to them apparently.

Any calls on the result for the United/Arsenal match. I'm hoping for a shock victory or at least a draw given that United haven't been that great this season...but a loss is more likely.

On another note am i the only one who thinks Arshavin isn't really happy in London nor does he believe in the squad which is why he always acts disinterested?

i suspect he wants to attract interest from spanish clubs etc... Tevez never seemed to me like a player for the EPL

when we are on transfer discussions: Schweinsteiger put an end to all speculation and signed a new contract at Bayern until 2016 and is quoted with saying "it would be much nicer to win the champions league with Bayern than with Real" and call it "a decision of the heart"

Possibly... he's reckoned to be seriously homesick though, with his family still in South America, including his young child who hasn't been well – that made me think he might be looking for a transfer home. A move back to Boca Juniors, perhaps?

Well he's insisted that he's leaving so i'm guessing he won't last until the end of the season. I don't think Boca would be hesitant to take him.

I think Boca is a fairly safe bet; he's a world-class striker in the prime of his career. He'll have to take a pretty big pay cut to play in Argentina though.

Although it seems MC have insisted he is staying until the end of the season. That could get interesting!

Edit: Breaking news, Blackburn have parted company with Big Sam with immediate effect. I was expecting Hodgson or Grant to go next...

Schweinsteiger - just means Bayern Munich get more for him.

Big Sam - he'll be back at Newcastle United; I doubt Mike Ashley is happy with Pardew's result.

Cheers,

Frankly I'd be surprised if Hodgson was sacked before the end of the season. After that, of course, it's fairly likely.

I wonder where Big Sam will go next.
