I have serious doubts about that map based on 35 years of living in Lambeth,if anything it's noted for a lack of Chelsea and Millwall fans. Most supporters I run into are Arsenal although given the make up of the borough there are large numbers of fans for Iberian and south American sides. The only club pub I can think of in Lambeth is the Hoops in Kennington.

Yikes so much chatter on Yahoo Eurosport about the crazy rumours of the transfer window.

Arshavin's agent has been shopping him around, claiming he'll leave if Arsenal don't win the league this season. and there's apparently some interest from Juventus...who also want to pluck Torres from Liverpool. Almunia is also reportedly prepping for a move away from the Emirates to Galatasaray.

In addition to scouting Conor Wickham, Wenger has also been looking for a defender thanks to fresh Vermaelen setbacks and potential targets are Bolton's Gary Cahill (they want Vela in return), West Ham's Upson, Blackburn's Samba and Bremen's Per Mertesacker

United want Sergio Busquets and the new Theo Walcott-Alex Chamberlain, Chelsea want Pienaar and Lescott, Real are interested Klose and Adebayor (why?) now that Higuain is out for the season.

Wenger PLEASE do these:

Buy: Shay Given and Chris Samba or a similar, strong, no-nonsense defender to partner Djourou/Vermaelen.
Sell: Denilson and Nicolas Bendtner. At the very least Denilson.

If I were Wenger, I'd sell Arshavin since he looks disinterested recently, take the money and use it to buy a GK and defender. Sell Bendtner too because he's useless. Probably need another striker since RvP is always injured.

I hope Wigan can keep Rodallega and N'Zogbia else they wont score another goal all season.

Arsenal need a top keeper and centerback. That should be top top prority. If Arshavin wants to go, then I agree that whatever they make from selling him should be used immediately to buy a keeper and center back. Right now they do not quite have a League/CL-caliber defense IMO.

Another striker would be the next priority but a defensive shoring-up is absolutely critical...just think what Arsenal would look like if they had Barca's two center backs and keeper.

I'm not impressed by Gary Cahill's recent form - should slot into the Arsenal defence with ease.:D As you mention, Samba would bring a bit of steel.

Map - no note of Kingstonian - sponsored by a fine record store - who ground share with AFC Wimbledon in the KT area. A bit of red, white or black would be nice.

Cheers,

I think that emphatically shows that Arsenal do not have any up-and-coming defenders in the pipeline...

Due to our first team defensive deficiencies, the reserve team captain, Miguel (sp.?), who is a centre back, was rested from that game to be with the first team. There's hope yet..! :D

Please don't buy Chris Samba. Main reason: he's ****. Gary Cahill would be fine, Vela in return... why not?! Upson questionable. Denilson ****s me off, he can go, Bendtner should stay or we are light up top with strikers.

Worrying that yesterday we were only a Clichy, Sagna, van Persie and (perhaps critically) Nasri away from full strength...

If he reads the papers, he must be feeling quite a bit of pressure, especially when he gets called up to the first team.

I actually agree about Bendtner...he's not that good but you can't afford to dump all your attackers at once...though, is Vela really that bad?

Nasri's absence was a big deal, obviously. That should give gooners at least some hope.

Do you care about the Carling/FA Cups? Or is winning those just a sideshow?

Not winning the Carling Cup at least would be a massive blow IMHO and would lead to some serious questions being asked because there simply can be no excuses for such an outcome.

The Carling Cup is very nearly there for the taking, but, assuming Arsenal win it, do most supporters care?

If Ipswich make the final, I'll be rooting for them, sorry Avram.

Beggars can't be choosers. I doubt most fans would complaining about winning the carling...especially after 5 yrs (going on 6) of trophy drought.

still wouldn't book back that open-top bus just yet... actually, I'd be happier to see a solid two legs against Barca than winning the league cup

Your'e already light up top with strikers :p
I'd try Bendtner as your replacement centre back, his ability to keep the ball out the net is quite something ;)

In other Arsenal related news, I see the usual moaning along the lines of "the way they played meant we couldn't win, it's not fair!" is doing the rounds again. Makes them sound like a buch of spoilt teenagers. If a manager wants to adopt tactics that Arsenal will find hard to play against, then surely that's what makes a good tactician?

I thought Ipswich played very well, for what it's worth.

Meanwhile, over to a country where they seem to favour something a bit rugbyish anyway – the US. I read that the MLS Superdraft 2011 has taken place – how did the Crew fare, your Lordship?

United are sending MF Corry Evans on loan to Hull for the remainder of the season. I've watched him in a few reserve matches and he looks like he could be a quality player. Yes, he is Jonny Evans' younger brother.

Uncertainty is the operative word. Only about half our roster spots were filled last time I checked (about 17 out of a maximum of 30). We have offloaded most of our best players. In the Superdraft, we picked up a right back (Rich Belchan), two midfielders (Cole Grossman, Bernardo Anor) and a forward (Justin Meram).

In order to get the pick we used on Meram we traded popular striker Steven Lenhart to San Diego. He had just come off a slightly underwhelming season, but was entertaining to watch, and I think the Crew will miss his presence up front. The Crew are operating on peanuts - we've dumped most of our more expensive players and everyone we picked up is going to be on the league minimum salary (about $40k a year), so I wonder if the suits are looking to splash out on one designated player. I hope so, because we've lost most of our "flair" players. Out of the 30-man roster from a year ago, just 10 players remain, not all of them starters.

It's also worth pointing out that the Re-Entry Draft has been (for the Crew at any rate) a failure. Our two picks, Striker Jeff Cunningham (currently training with IK Start in Norway) and Aaron Hohlbein, failed to reach terms with the club last I heard. They are still listed on the roster, and we own their rights, but if we don't agree terms then they are likely to go elsewhere.

In other MLS news that you may have already seen, John Rooney has fled his brother's shadow joined Red Bull New York, and aged pundit Robbie Savage is considering a move to Vancouver. Apparently he's hacked down enough English youths and would like to have a go at American and Canadian "soccerball" players.

Robbie Savage said:
The chance to be part of making soccer popular in America, alongside people like David Beckham and Thierry Henry, is obviously very tempting.

David Beckam, Thierry Henry....and Robbie Savage. Bringing soccer to a stadium near you.

Indeed! I note that – according to his stats – he's not made a senior appearance for United and played one game on loan at Carlisle. However, despite this he's managed to accumulate seven Norn Iron caps. Blimey.

We seem to be gathering quite a collection of Manchester United kids over the last few months – he joins on-loan Cameron Stewart and new signing James Chester. I suspect that might have something to do with the fact that United's reserve manager is none other that Tigers legend Warren Joyce. :)

Yes and no. I wouldn't parade the fact we won the Carling Cup, it would obviously be nice, but I don't think it really counts. As above said, it would be notable if we didn't win it this year given the opposition... FA Cup is worth a bit more. Would be happy to win that, excited.

This hasn't really been the attitude amongst most Arsenal fans as of late, City chose to park the bus and that's fine - let's face it, they only survived because of luck, and it was up to us to break them down. Ipswich played a tactical game which made sense, why not expose a horrible lack of dealing with a long ball over the top? So no complaints here, the players should (and when they are properly playing can) deal with that. My problem lies with teams that simply foul and kick us, as that's not football, it's not tactics, it's thuggery. Physical is fine, we can deal with that (Blackburn away etc.) but sometimes the line is crossed..

Stratford Spurs?

It has an alliterative ring to it. :D

They could just call themseleves Hotspurs and drop the Tottenham. The day they move though, set up another team called Tottenham Hotspurs and they can't stop you as they would have no legal right to the name Tottenham (and hotspur being a generic word for chickens).

Anyway, I just read elsewhere that their proposal involves actually demolishing the Olympic stadium and rebuilding a proper football stadium with no running track. That's truly astonishing. The Hammers would keep the track, in which case I'd say let Spurs have it then. Running tracks around the pitch really sucks.

The Carling Cup is very nearly there for the taking, but, assuming Arsenal win it, do most supporters care?

I do. They should go all out to win every piece of silverware as if it were the only one.

I've always believed that fielding a weakened team for any competition, even a dead rubber in a CL group match, says to your team "it's okay to lose" which is obviously not a good mindset for any club to have. So many times Arsenal has been on a good run, only to be derailed after throwing one of these 'non-games'.

So it's been great to see Wenger taking it seriously for the first time.

Your'e already light up top with strikers :p

Bendtner's a poacher or tapper-inner type goalscorer because he's not faster on the ground than the defenders, but he has much faster reflexes and better positioner for the low fast crosses six inches in front of the keeper. Which despite Wenger's always saying he wants a 'fox in the box' poacher, Arsenal just don't play that way. Only Arshavin really does that, so I'd play both of them together only never separately and I'm sure you'd see an instant pick up in both their forms.

I'm of two minds about this. On the one hand, fielding a weakened team rarely rewards the spectator, and it is often interpreted as a lack of intent on the part of the manager.

On the other hand, players just can't play 60+ matches a season without breaking down. Even if you could eliminate injuries from the equation, I would argue that it is impossible to play the same XI plus subs for every match in the league plus Europe and two domestic cup competitions in addition to assorted club friendlies and (for some) international duty. That's just too much. Every top team rotates it's players because there is simply no alternative.

Every club has a 25-man squad. IF you are taking all 4+ competitions you might be in seriously, you are going to need most of those 25 players to step up and contribute meaningfully or you risk physically destroying your best XI.

I hope we beat them but it won't be easy because West Ham have been playing quite well recently and have even more of an incentive to do so today.

So is Grant just not a good manager? two clubs he's managed now face(d) relegation. Was he only successful at Chelsea thanks to quality of players, Wilkins & Terry?

Also in the news of managers under fire, apparently The Billionaire has backed Carlo "The Brow" Ancelotti...but Lampard isn't helping things with his Scolari comment.
