Re the mike, I think someone made the most of it. Concerning being pushed, an apology should have sufficed - one word versus his work at West Bromwich Albion.

As much as I hated them, Atkinson's late 70's Baggies were brilliant to watch.

This match was a real classic.

Note the booing of the black players and Atkinson's remark at the end about the 'two coloured front people'. A lot has changed over the last 30 years.

Indeed, maybe I'm guilty of judging people using a different set of standards to which I was brought up using. Can't wait until I'm older so I could do the same (by then clubism will be a major sin!)

Yaaaay!

Keys next please!

Oooo new evidence was why Gray went... from the beeb:

"The 55-year-old and colleague Richard Keys were stood down for Monday's match between Bolton and Chelsea.
And on Tuesday, Sky said they terminated Gray's contract "in response to new evidence of unacceptable and offensive behaviour".
Sky's statement continued: "The new evidence, relating to an off-air incident that took place in December, 2010, came to light after Andy Gray had already been subjected to disciplinary action for his comments of 22 January, 2011."
Sky Sports managing director Barney Francis said: "Andy Gray's contract has been terminated for unacceptable behaviour. After issuing a warning yesterday, we have no hesitation in taking this action after becoming aware of new information today.""

That'll put the frighteners up Keys, the hairs on the back of his hands will be standing on end.

Hopefully they'll replace Gray with a chap (or indeed chapess) who doesn't think insightful punditry is just repeating what he's already said but a bit slower. However, as the best they could do last night was wheel Jamie 'I'm literally an idiot, Richard' Redknapp out as a replacement I won't get my hopes up.

Yeah, just read that and discussing it at work. You've got to think, they must have hundreds of "off-air incidents", you could probably stitch up and fire just about anyone. Crikey, if we took comments seriously, Prince Phillip should have gone years ago!

Here's the new evidence...

During an interview pre-amble with Gray, Andy Burton described 25-year-old Miss Massey as "a bit of a looker", referring to comments by another colleague.

Burton continued: "He (a Sky Sports crew member) says she (Massey) is all right. Now I don't know if I should trust his judgement on that?"

Gray then said: "No, I wouldn't. I definitely wouldn't... I can see her from here."

He then swore and added: "What do women know about the offside rule?"

I really hope that the new evidence was reviewed on Gray's big Monday Night Football touchscreen video table thingy.

"We see can Andy here and he's doing fine, but if we move the action back to before the interview actually starts..." :p

Peterkro – I'd just read about the shirt-tucking thing too, an incident unrelated to the comments regarding Massey.

Phil Neal? Slow, but at least he repeats what somebody else has said.

OllyW - thanks for the Manchester United v West Bromwich Albion link. Laurie Cunningham booed by some idiots, then within 5 years he is on loan at Old Trafford.:) A very fine WBA team.

Cheers,
OW

Here's the new evidence. To be honest it's not that bad... she laughs it off..

..but Andy Gray is a **** so it's all good! Really wanted Keys to go too though...

I have to say i'm gonna miss him. He and Martin were decent commentators. A bit heavy-handed IMHO for a not that big a deal issue. Wreaks of vilification/looking for a scapegoat.

Maybe BBC or ITV will pick him up.

He might be a **** as a pundit but he's still the player who scored the goal that gave us our last major trophy. He's still got a bit of respect left here in the Black Country. :)

Channel 5.

The process behind the Gray sacking is a bit odd...first, they reprimand him for the Massey comments, but only fire him when previous shenanigans come to light. It sounds to me as if somebody saw an opportunity for revenge and squealed in order to get him fired. I have no sympathy for him, but it seems a bit artbitrary to place him on probabtion and then sack him for previous missdeeds.

Leave LB alone! I can see how Liverpool would want to raid any team above them in the league as they're clearly better, and that's punishment enough ;)

Ouch. ;)

EDIT: Looks like we are rid of Babel, but sources indicate we sold him for a couple million less than we paid. Unfulfilled potential.

Mind, conspiracy types will point out that Gray is currently taking legal action against The News of The World after the paper allegedly tapped his phone. Said paper is of course owned by Rupert Murdoch, who also owns Sky – from whom these tapes have suddenly emerged. Hmm...

I'm worried, we need two goals against a resolute defence...we can't be wasting chances. On the plus side United are 2-0 down. :D

YES! Kos you beauty!

Edit: Unsurprisingly United spring back.

Edit 2: ...and win

Well, I had circled the date of the trip to Blackpool on my calendar for a reason. After the first half, I assumed it was for all the wrong reasons. I'm mightily impressed with what the Tangerines have accomplished this season, though maybe Holloway got burned by sticking to his attacking philosophy in the second half.

Otherwise, what a poor game for United. Scholes, Giggs, Berbatov, Chicharito, and Rafael seemed like the only visitors who showed up. Rooney, Fletcher, and Nani continued their poor runs of form; Darron Gibson simply has no business playing in the BPL.

Hope Giggs can play until he's 50, like Seasiders' legend Stanley Matthews.

So blasted predictable.

I really wished they'd hang on but alas...

Apparently they had a strong penalty shout denied. Lucky lucky Utd. Chelsea in addition to failing in their quest to secure David Luiz are not only 10 pts behind but have also had their £52m bid for Aguero/Godin rejected. Also in transfer news Real have secured Adebayor. I'm still wondering...why?

He is not that great a forward IMHO...lacks consistency and pace.

1. german Cup quarter final had one of the classic miracle moments
Schalke vs Nürnberg 2:2 after 90 minutes
in the 116 minute Schalke makes a substitution and puts a 17 year old youngster Draxler on the pitch
118. minute with his 2. touch of the ball he scores a fabulous 25 meter strike for the decisive 3:2
