I'm currently loving the comparisons being drawn in the press between SPL and La Liga, but unfortunately it's not due to the standard of play.
Must be the weather, then? ;)

A spot of MLS news – it looks like Colorado Rapids will be acquiring Caleb Folan from us this weekend, Pearson (Nigel) has confirmed that the paperwork is being sorted out and that player and club are at a point where it's best if we went our separate ways.

Folan didn't score a lot of goals for you, but I'm not convinced he'll find it that much easier in MLS. The average level of technical ability is probably somewhat lower, but the MLS is every bit as physical.

Very true – the lad has ability for sure, but it's his application and attitude that are mostly questioned rather than his talent. Well, that and his ability to stay onside. ;)

Assuming everything goes through, it will be interesting to see how he fares...

Just reading on the MailOnline that Blatter has announced FIFA has made £750 million profit. That's over USD $1.2 billion.

And wtf quote of the week - Orient player Paul-Jose Mpoku has refused a team trip to Las Vegas because it's "a city full of sins and I am a very religious person." Yet his shirt sponsor is Party Casino. Maybe he'd be okay with Las Vegas on religious grounds if they paid him too.

Ah, but you must remember that FIFA is a 'non-profit making organisation'. I believe they refer to this money as a 'surplus'.

Anyway, speaking of financial matters I have a rival for your quote of the week...

"Finances aren't everything I'm about, football's my main prerogative..."

Uttered this week by the fiscally unconcerned Jimmy Bullard, the man who – let's not forget – turned down a loan move at the start of the season because we and Celtic refused to pay him extra on top of his already lucrative wages, conditions that Pearson (Adam) described at the time as 'ridiculous financial demands'.

Carry on keeping it real Jimmy, you lovable cheeky cockney chappie.

Was it cancer? News reports only report it as a 'serious illness'. BBC link provided says it was not a tumor.

Sad all the same, plenty still playing at that age.

Jaffa, did you go to the game today? Wondered what you thought about Ramsey and JET for Cardiff today..

But of course I was there!

Emmanuel-Thomas started on the bench but came on with about ten minutes to go, replacing Bellamy – and he got their second goal in injury time. We're at the other end of the ground so weren't best placed to see it well, but it looked a good enough finish.

The boy Ramsey – who I believe is headed back to Arsenal after today's game – started the match, didn't pull up any trees but had a decent enough first half, faded a bit in the second I thought

Also of interest from an Arsenal loanee point of view, Mannone was on the bench for us – his first appearance in the squad since his injury – with Guzan chosen to start ahead of him. However, the American's loan finished with this game and he's heading back to Villa, so I'd expect Mannone to be the first choice 'keeper next time out.

Thanks.

JET scoring is good news.. Ramsey, yep, as far as I know is coming back now.. was hoping for more of a man of the match performance pulling the strings in midfield  but can't be greedy!

Mannone is interesting. I wonder if he'll be offered to you permanently - Sczesny and Fabianski seem to have things wrapped up at Arsenal for the considerable future... and Mannone hasn't inspired me too much when I've seen him. Depends how he does for the rest of the season I guess - if he plays well, maybe he comes back and fights for his place.

I'm on Firefox and I don't get any pop-ups. But then again I'm on old IE in the work and I don't get pop-ups either. I'm wondering if the problem is Google. I used a 'clean' new Windows laptop to browse Halfords and from now on I get hit with Google ads for gel filled saddles.

As a slight annoyance, for some reason when at work the BBC think I'm abroad and don't let me watch the football highlights. The amount of adverts on it is rather shocking as well.

League business as usual in Scotland this weekend, I don't suspect any surprises (i.e. Old Firm dropping points.) I'm currently loving the comparisons being drawn in the press between SPL and La Liga, but unfortunately it's not due to the standard of play.

Oh forgot to say, clear out your cookies.

Whoops, just saw this - thanks for the advice, will try clearing my cookies and if not maybe just firefox as opposed to chrome.

Oops, looks like Ashley Cole pulled a Dick Cheney, shooting and wounding a young staffer with an air rifle at the Chelsea training ground.

I've been wondering the same myself. He's certainly done okay for us at this level, and if Sczesny and Fabianski have things covered then there seems little point keeping him at Arsenal, given that he's over 21 so you'd basically be giving up a valuable squad place to a third choice 'keeper.

If he's available and the price isn't too silly, I say we take him.

Cripes. That's never a good move, if you ask me.

C'mon the Arsenaaaaaal.

A bit of silverware today, please. I'm not too confident as things tend to go wrong for Arsenal in finals - 2000 UEFA Cup scoreless draw lost on penalties, 2001 FA Cup lost when ahead, 2006 CL final lost when ahead... and this very competition the 2007 League Cup final lost when ahead...

The only two finals Arsenal have won this century were the other two FA Cups where only 1 goal was scored in both matches. So statto time - in all six finals Arsenal have contested since 2000 they have not been able to score more than one goal per game, and have had four players sent off.

So if Arsenal score twice today and not get a red card, it'll be a turn up for the books. :D

PS. On Tuesday, I will be an honorary Chelsea supporter. C'mon you blues! For ninety minutes (plus the interval) I will care not a whit for Russian gangster crime bosses being treated as respectable businessmen and owners and pretend their team of boy-toys paid for with stolen money are actually a legitimate football club and so deserving of my full support. :)

PPS. I agree with the Wigan boss, Rooney should have been given an early shower for that incident. Considering he ended up being instrumental in the win, it could have altered the result of the game plus whether he'd be facing Chelsea, and so possibly the entire season. How a single fleeting referee decision can change the future.

One that immediately springs to mind, 2-0 Arsenal Chelsea FA Cup Final 2002. Ooooo aaahh Ray Parlour with a screamer, and Freddie following it up with one of my favourite goals ever.

Same season we won the league at Old Trafford

Don't beat yourself up too much about putting your principles aside for 90 minutes – folk were backing Crawley against Manchester United a few weeks back, and with their unknown benefactors ploughing huge sums into the club and a manager convicted of criminal fraud from his time at Boston United, the Sussex outfit aren't exactly angels themselves.

I expect Chelsea to come out all guns blazing against United, even their defenders are shooting on sight these days.

Have Arsenal announced any plans for the open top bus route should they win this afternoon, now that the League Cup is considered a proper trophy? ;)

XIII – you off, then? Final I mean, not the bus.

D'oh! The Double year. Bugger me how could I forget that one? And my fave player of all time too (I have his shirt number on my replica kit). Totally stuffs up my stats then, but that's a good thing. Arsenal 2-0 then!

Looking back now that was quite a good period there with Ray and Paddy and Manu. And Thierry and DB10 and We Love You Freddie. 4 FA Cup finals in 5 years. 5 in 8. It all seems to have dried up with that loss in the CL final and they all drifted away. Fabregas just came at the end of all that so hopefully this could be the dawn of a new one. :)

Ray Parlour?

He came from Arsenal, he'd rather play for 'ull. :)

I will be supporting the russian mobsters too.. sadly they still won't be good enough to do anything against United..

Yes, off in a minute.. quite looking forward to it. I haven't been to new Wem-ber-lee yet, I think you're one up in that respect?! :D

It was a fantastic period. I do feel very optimistic about this bunch of players though, watching them against Barca I really felt they were capable of something special. Fingers crossed this is the start of something today!

Also - whispers are Vermaelen will make his first team come back within 2 weeks...

Yep, and we've won there too – so no pressure on you or owt. :D

I remember you being quite shocked when you discovered Ray Parlour ended his playing days at City, lucky there was photographic proof in the programme.

Anyway, have a great afternoon. :)

Wrong number though, should be 15!

He'll always be Romford Ray though. :) Check out his top ten goals (the 2002 one against Chelsea is #1 of course):

PS. How could I forget the Double year - I bought the signed Arsenal shirt donated by Arsenal to Niall Quinn's testimonial auction in April 2002 for £300. Arsenal went on to secure the Double three weeks later as we all know so I think I got it for good value. Considering how much just a plain shirt without signatures goes for. :)
