I love how the FIA closed this loophole as not being 'in the spirit of the rules' but the McLaren f-duct completely goes along with that spirit.

Hehe, agreed. And really, having to open close the duct with ones knee while driving. I wonder how black and blue Hamilton and Button's knees are  Going 200+mph, even on the smoothest straights, I am sure is pretty bumpy in an F1 car.

It's politics though, as it was hot topic....:(

So.....for the 2 guys that actually work near/in F1 in this thread, what can really be done to aid in passing in your opinion? My opinion?: stop development on top-side aero, and more on ground effects.

On a side note, Audi stated they like Le-Mans more than F1 because it applies to road-cars more as seen here:
http://audiworld.com/news/10/audi-r15-plus-1/

"From Audi’s perspective, the LMP1 is the better alternative to Formula 1 because this motorsport category features technologies and developments which are relevant to production vehicles," explains Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich. "At Le Mans, efficiency is of paramount importance – and today, more than ever before, it is a key deliverable of production vehicles as well and it is one of Audi’s special strengths."

Therefore, efficiency was a focal point during the R15 TDI evolution project – particularly in the complex area of aerodynamics.

Ummm, is the aero statement why Toyota and some other Constructors pulled out of F1? Not enough of the scene applies to road going cars?

Bigger tyres, less aero. More underbody aero would help, but taken too far can be dangerous

I'm still disappointed with Schumi not even being able to out-qualify Rosberg... A Lewis was waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy off the pace as well, what's going on there?

On a side note, the replay of Vettel's pole lap on the beeb was pretty scary, those high speed corners in Melbourne are pretty extraordinary, especially with no run-off areas whatsoever...

Button for champion!!! - only joking. Nice guy, but not gonna happen.

But there are at least four or five other guys capable of winning this years' championship. I cannot wait for the season to unfold a bit.

About Lewis and his arrest - "inappropriate use of a motor vehicle"?! He's a world champion racing driver! :D

Michael is on hard tires and Niko is on softs. Considering how cold the track and ambient were, Michael's performance is probably positive.

What a superb race! I was hoping Lewis would get back ahead of the Ferrari's, but the disappointment was short lived with the supremacy of Button.

This was a total turnaround from the bahrain gp. Plenty of overtaking, varying tactics and an unpredictable result. Here's to hoping the rest of the season will be this exciting!

It was very bad luck but I think Vettel might have had to stop for tyres and lost the lead anyway

I agree. If you remember the difference between tyre use by Button and Vettel at Monaco, in which he fell off the track after he trashed his tyres in the opening laps, you can see the different ways in which they use their tyres. Button's call to come in helped, but it was his use of the tyres that won him the race ultimately. Great drive!

WTF is Button doing?

I was thinking exactly that as well... :p shows what I know. :D

Can I suggest all the teams should have sliders at the end of the wings? It looked awesome when Schumacher was dragging his wing...

I don't know why the teams don't agree to attach thin strips of titanium to the plank for this very purpose, purely spectacle of course, but imagine at night races.

Ugh, another win lost because of a problem with an external supplier's part.

That, and an appalling drive from the teams other driver of course. ;)

A thoroughly enjoyable race though. :)

I'm not sure why, but I'm not a huge Vettle fan. Despite being a fan of Hamilton (who is guilty of this at times), Vettle comes off as too entitled. Such that just because he is capable of winning he should. Maybe I'm reading him wrong. Perhaps I'm just happy that the person who managed to get out in front didn't manage to run away with the race again.

Already looking like Rain for the next race. :D

Just found this, from the official F1 site:

Sebastian Vettell said:
Well, yes, we had a problem with the brakes of the left front tyre. As I understand it the tyre was not fixed properly and therefore had too much play and damaged the brake disc. It started two laps before - I wanted to pit but the next lap it was improving again so the decision was made to keep me out, and then it was too late…
