As I understand it the 107% rule isn't actually in place at the moment. The sporting regs (section 33 ) don't mention it at all, nor is it in the International Sporting Code.

CW's said he may bring it back though. If he does, HRT won't be racing, and they'll quickly be finished as a viable racing team.

It would be about 8 seconds at this track- Lotus and Viking might make it, HRT wouldn't.

Incidentally, the extension to the track is utterly bloody horrid. What the hell did they bolt that on for, it's pointless.
 
Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention ( enjoying the awesome McLaren live telemetry website feature ) but I thought I heard them say it ISN'T in place, but they might bring it back.

I can't find ANY mention of it on the FIA website at all.
 
BBC talking rubbish again, there is no 107% timing issue. If, as expected HRT, Lotus & Virgin go out in Q1 then they will have set timed laps with fumes in. Now come Q3 when they will work out the pole time all cars will be running with 160kg of fuel which will slow the leading cars by around 4-5 seconds per lap (if pre season is anything to go by). So therefore the teams that finish last in Q1 will only be 2-3 seconds off the pole time, well within the 107% time scale.
 
Surely if the 107% rule is applied, it'll be to Q1 alone.

(but as I've said - I'm not seing any documentary evidence that it's in place anyway - if it were in the sporting regs, they would explain exactly how it will be applied)

Maybe I misheard them, but they were talking as if it was in place. Maybe it was hypothetical commentary...

So no, it's not in place for 2010, and it's not likely to be.
 
If the first practise times are any indication, I doubt any of the new teams will qualify for the race.

As stated here, by James Allen, the 107% rule doesn't apply, won't be applied for racing grounds (would require 100% approval - Turkeys, Christmas?!), and would be difficult to justify on safety grounds as there will be as substantial speed differential as teams test varying amounts of fuel anyway, so it would be a nightmare to justify.

BTW What do peeps think of me new 'tar? Thought I might for a Brazilian for a change ...:p

In 2010 all three sessions are to be run on "low fuel" per the reports I have read in Autosport and other periodicals and per SPEED TV's coverage of FP2 this morning. The only requirement for Q3 qualifiers is they start the race on the tires they qualified on.

i kinda liked the whole fuel thing for q3 last year, but this tire thing i think is kinda weird.

That's Hispania Racing Team with the unfortunate moniker HRT (formerly Campos).

Virgin and Lotus look like they have potential. They both just need track time to get some improvements on their car going. HRT look like they'll need a few more races to gt up to speed.
 
I was not expecting that to go anywhere near as well for Red Bull. It's good to watch qualifying where everyone is running light, too.
 
Interesting thing the McLaren have to pass air from the top of the nose directly into the top of the rear wing. Funny they would try to get more top speed than medium speed downforce for Bahrain especially with the added bumpy as hell section. I think I would lose my glasses...and gain a good migraine.

The duct doesn't gain them downforce at high speed, it decreases it and reduces drag. It's meant for use down a straight where top speed is all that matters, downforce isn't an issue.

I dunno - I'm lovin' the Mclaren ... er ... love-in - some nice banter between the two. I'm really looking forward to see how they'll do this year.

I think Alonso is probably favourite for the race. Front row, and the Red Bull doesn't seem to use it's tyres quite as well. I'm really looking forward to the battle between them, as well as how the new teams develop.
