no zippers, no memory foam BS, no gimmicks, just a good, solid vertical sleeve to protect from scratches.

If you drop your pro in any sleeve, you're pretty much screwed. Even if you aren't (magically), I don't think I'd want the computer after a bad drop even if it's seemingly unscathed.

Sleeves are to protect from scratches, nothing will protect fully against a drop.

It's more accurate to say "nothing will protect fully against ALL drops". There are plenty of sleeves that will provide better protection than a foof in some drops. I dropped my MBP down a flight of wooden stairs outside, protected only by the booq Vyper M3 sleeve. Not a dent. Not a scratch. Everything has worked flawlessly for over 2 years since then. That wouldn't be true if I had been using a foof or neoprene sleeve.

You got VERY lucky. I still would've probably just bought a new machine and kept the old one as a backup, or sold it (disclosing the drop of course).

That's your call, but it would have been a waste of money to do so. Nothing at all was damaged, thanks to the Vyper.
