it's not possible it's fact. They made the playoffs today because the raiders lost. I don't think they'll go far in the playoffs though

I agree but at this time last year I thought the Packers would not go far. :)

People are pretty much saying it's the Packers or Saints for the NFC against the Patriots and smart money would bet on those teams to at least make conference championships. However, stranger things have happened and maybe it could be the Giants or 49ers representing the NFC, and the Broncos on the AFC side. While I don't expect and major upsets, there's always at least a minor one each playoff season.

While I want my 49ers to go all the way, I don't think their 13-3 record, same as Pats and Saints, will help them much come the week following bye week. I think they are very vulnerable on offense and defenses seem to really step things up more during postseason.

so far it looks like the Rams, Bucs, and Jaguars will all have new staff next year. i wonder who else will be due for major changes in the next few weeks?

i don't know why people are mentioning Flynn with the Bears. he wouldn't start for us if we signed him and so he wouldn't sign with us anyways. Cutler's injury showed us just how good he really is and that we need to have a solid backup to him more than anything.

Matt Flynn won himself a huge payday today. Some team will make him a starter next year.

Bears? Jets? Broncos? Oakland? Redskins?

How about Seattle? They have a worse QB than all those teams, and don't have a high enough draft pick to get a better one.

You no like Palmer?

Hey, he's better than the Niners Alex Smith, but Palmer is no spring chicken and his stats show this. Yeah, some QBs are very productive and consistent until age 35 or further (Manning, Favre first retirement) but I think Raiders can use some new blood. I don't expect, after all these years, to suddenly see Palmer reach his peak. He had a decent peak early in his career and had the Raiders had him then, we would be talking about Oakland in the playoffs.

The Raiders need to rebuild and somehow get past all those stupid penalties. It will be hard to keep the Raider mystique of being one of the more physical teams of NFL history but stay away from flags. I don't know if the Raiders have become sloppy in this regard or if the officials are being more picky.

we might have money but prolly no draft picks to trade. as far as draft picks go carson palmer cost us a pretty penny...

He looked like a prize coming out of college and then getting to be a franchise QB in Cincinatti. I think we got him when he was declining. You never know when a QB declines, whether it's before age 30, around age 30, or if you are very lucky 35-ish. I don't know if I want to take a chance on a 32 year old QB to somehow fall into the groove like a Stabler, Plunkett, or Gannon. I say let's get a great QB from the beginning and have him stay with the team a long time like Favre or Brady. I don't believe in loyalty to a player over the good of a whole team. The Niners did great with Walsh and Siefert because they not only used talent, but kept the team young and put (still) great players out to pasture before they declined. If anything, it was a just in time inventory or first in first out type of thing. ;)

If the Raiders get their D up to par with playing clean and not having so many penalties, then that will go a long way towards getting a better record. I don't fault them on their spirit or sheer aggressiveness since they have that down. It's fine tuning which could take a couple of seasons and as we know no great offense or defense was built overnight.

My ultimate dream is to see Oakland go against SF in the Super Bowl. We had our dream World Series, dampened by the earthquake, so if the stars are lined up right, we could get both Bay Area teams in the Super Bowl. After the Gannon period, Oakland had some rebuilding years, and for a long, long time after Young, SF has been in a constant rebuilding phase. If picks and luck (lack of injuries) line up, then Oakland and SF can make the playoffs together for the next few years.

Bears are getting a new GM and Lovie stays. This is probably the best news for the long term for this team. Lovie is a good coach in my opinion who has had subpar talent overachieve. A new GM should be able to bring in some good talent, at least I hope.

I like Palmer. But I think Jason Campbell will be our #1 when he gets healthy. He was having a pretty good year. Our defense killed us vs Buffalo and then again vs Denver and Detroit. If they make some stops and hold the leads we had in those three games... who knows?

Well, I'd hate to see the Niners perfect SB record ruined... bring on Flynn tho.. :D

The Niners won't get their 5 for 5 record ruined simply because there's no way the they can get to the Super Bowl. If they get there, then that means getting past the likes of a New Orleans or Green Bay and that's a super longshot.

For the Niners to be serious, they need to have a much stronger offense. Their defense is tops and a joy to see, but it's hard to imagine getting far in the playoffs with what seems to be half an offense. Unless the RBs have a field day where at the same time the opponents suddenly falter on stopping the run, there's no chance for SF getting very far. Alex Smith may be a good backup, but the Niners can't use him as their franchise QB and expect to be great and play against the Saints and Green Bays of the NFL. I don't even know if I would put my money on the Niners ever consistently beating teams like New England or the Ravens or the Steelers.

I meant in the future if they one day played The Raiders... but yer right... more or less, anyway, The Saints win it all!

When and if the Saints meet GB, that's the Super Bowl, really. Back in 1992-94, the matchup that everyone believed mattered was Dallas vs. SF in the NFC. The AFC was so weak that whoever they put in the Super Bowl would get wiped out. That's kind of what it feels like this time or at least headed in that direction for a long time. Brady is getting old, Big Ben is not the same, and Manning has seen better days. Tebow and Sanchez are good, but by no means the QBs to take AFC teams further. The AFC is in for a drought, much the way the NFC was in the 2000s. I do like the chances for the Pats on a god day, but they are so outdueled this year by the Saints and GB. The Saints have peaked at the right time and GB has been on a peak the whole season and now have a week to rest.

The Niners, thankfully, can rest but I don't think it will help them too much. If the Saints has the bye week then it would be Saints and GB in NFC championship for sure. At least this is football, so anything can happen, especially when it comes to late season injuries.

Rex is really taking no playoffs for the Jets hard...........

The Giants - Falcons game should be a pretty even matchup and an entertaining game
Here's hoping that Coach Smith and Matt Ryan can get their first (of many) playoff wins

While GB and NO are clearly the two best NFC Teams (sorry 49ers), being the best team is no guarantee of anything in the playoffs
