I have to say that the Patriot defense looked pretty impressive against the Broncos. They looked much improved from when we played in the regular season. I think they will beat the Ravens and end up playing the Giants in the SuperBowl.

Scuse me. I think you have San Francisco's baseball team confused with the football team.

:D

It wouldn't surprise me. When talking to my son lately about football, I have many times meant the 49ers and instead said the Giants.

So I'll make it clear for you. I think the SuperBowl will be the New England Patriots versus the New York Giants.

The poor defense ranking was mainly due to the yardage allowed. As was stated earlier, they were 15th in points given up, and that is all that matters in the end. You can give up a 40 yard pass play but if the other team doesn't score it's just a statistic and has no effect on the outcome of the game.

The Saints won a Superbowl using this exact strategy. And wasn't it the Vikings that had something like 480 yards of offense yet they lost to the Saints who went on to win the SuperBowl. Brett Farve only had a 70 rating too...Brees had a 106 rating---which says that statistic is more important than tons of offensive yards.

I think the Patriots Defense employ the same idea...give a lot and crush them when it hurts them the most...in the red zone.

Quite true. Brees was far more efficient in that game. Putting the points on the board is all that matters. If the defense gives up 99 yards and keeps them from scoring from the 1, the 99 yds is a meaningless stat.

The Patriots have one advantage over Baltimore beside Brady. They have Belichick.

...i think "peace" was making a joke...

The Giants look dangerous. Green Bay should not take them lightly. They seem to play three times better in the playoffs then they do in the regular season. It's like it all just comes together for them at the right time.

You heard it here first... that's from post #672. The Giants look scary and have playoff experience. Eli manages the team well and rarely makes mistakes. Usually if he's picked it's because of a tip or the receiver ran the wrong route. The match up with the 49ers will be a great game, but I'm thinking the Giants pull it out.

I have no idea about the Ravens vs. Pats, that game could go either way.

Oh, and anyone saying that Bellicheck left Brady in the game to "send a message" was not watching the same game I watched. After the 6th TD they clearly took the foot off the gas and focused heavily on the run game to chew up clock and get on to next week. Unlike the Saints did a few weeks ago with Brees, Bellicheck and Brady didn't go for the record which they easily could have done.

He's just another bitter Southern Californian without a football team of his own to root for. Maybe you could talk him into supporting Sheffield Wednesday? :D

Let's go Niners! Should be a great game. The weather in San Francisco is supposed to be rainy for days leading up to the game, could be a real mud bowl. That would have to play into the 49ers hands.

Oh no... it goes deeper then that... there is a certain play in NFL history (1982) that involved a certain quarterback rolling to his right and finding another person who will remain nameless in the end zone and all of sudden this play is given a name...... just happen to be against my favorite team so I have a deep down hatred towards them.....

This has nothing to do with a bitter SC not having a football team, that I can care less about, except for the occasional home game and the opportunity to see my favorite team play, but other then that... nope I hate the 49ers more then I do the Giants even though we can't seem to beat them in our new place.

The Catch. You're a Cowboys fan.

aahhh understood. I'll allow that.

And for you cats younger than me there is no Catch II or Catch III. The Catch is all there is. That one play meant more in Niners history than any of these Johnny come lately catches ever will. You see the Niners hadn't been able to get by the Cowboys in the playoffs for many, many a moon. That one play changed that forever...

As I Niner fan, I got over NFC Championship losses to Washington, New York, a few with Dallas, and Green Bay. But "The Catch" was 30 years ago. Let it go.
