I have 2 questions. Do you think the 2011 imac will support 2 monitors without any lag in the second monitor.

Will they offer the free ipod around the 20th again and should I wait for it?

thx,

-Alan

I've never seen lag on a second monitor on any Mac that supports 2 monitors via it's built-in graphics card.

2nd
Not sure when the iPod deal starts but have seen rumors blocking Apple Retail Employee vacations around May 20th, Apple's 10 year retail anniversary, which could mean a sale or student free iPods could come earlier this year.

So you're suggesting waiting another three weeks before ordering could bring us a free ipod? Well, that's tempting alright. But i don't think i'm gonna bet on it and rather order straight away.

EDIT: these are last years, my bad

hahah, then why does it say new iMacs!

i was scared when i saw the specs, which was the old ones.

I phoned apple and they told me that on wednesday there will be a new product, maybe iMac, they don't know :confused::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::):):):):):):):):)

The one feature that would compel me to upgrade a i7 loaded late 2010 is an easy user replaceable hard drive (a door on the back or side slot). Notebooks have it, no reason why iMacs should not

They aren't really the same. Notebooks consist of two parts, the display and the body. iMac only has one part and that is the body which has an integrated LCD. The hardest part in replacing the HD is to hassle with the LCD. If there was no LCD, then it would be as easy as it is with a laptop.

Moreover, Apple makes nice and easy money from BTOs.

Will they offer the free ipod around the 20th again and should I wait for it?

Most likely yes. Just to add that it is only for students if someone did not know that.

multiple processors

So without any leaks, think imac will still be released tomorrow?

I was also wondering why mac has gone with multiple processors (if I understand that correctly) like dual and quad core; instead of a more powerful processor?

And any possibility the imac 2011 will have 6 core?

thx,
-Alan

Apple can't go too many more weeks not providing models to resellers. B&H, MacMall, etc. are quickly running out of stock.

iMacs use i3, i5, and i7 processors (each only has one) and each features either 2 cores/4 threads, 4 cores/4 threads or 4 cores/8 threads, depending on the model.

You have the ability to configure a Mac Pro with two processors (which would be 8 cores/16 threads and 12 cores/24 threads), starting at $3.5K.

Sandy Bridge (the name for the new processors) is anywhere from 20-30% faster in many benchmarks, compared to the previous generation, so there will be an upgrade. For example, the top-end Core i7 will likely go to 3.4GHz, from 2.93GHz.

There is a 6-core Core i7-970 processor, but it has a 130 Watt TDP (current processor is 95 Watts) and costs nearly $300 more than the 4 core/8 thread processor currently in the top-end (significantly less value). These two factors mean Apple is unlikely to include it in an iMac.
