The problem with 24 inch is that there is less space to put components in. The 27 inch iMac made it possible to use quad core cpu's, ssd+hdd and a fine gpu. And don't forget the resolution. 2560x1440 on 24 inch would molest eyes.
I'm glad they went for 21,5+27 instead of 20+24 inch. Simple size increase made so much more possibilities.

WoW - and I'm seriously thinking about getting an iMac 27" and 2 LED ACD 27" displays in a 3 27" setup

Show off :p

I plan on getting a second 27 inch display once I start actually doing some iOS development. Don't think I have a need for a 3rd display though, might use my iPad 2 for that LMAO.

First, 1.5TB worth of music, and now 3 27" displays? My god, man! Impressive, yet again :D

No way, not 2560 on a 24". The PPI is already small enough on the 27". Keeping the resolution at 1980x1080 would actually make it quite a contender for graphics since it would have more space inside than the 21.5" and possibly room enough for same level graphics cards as the 27".

And quad cores are supposedly coming for the 21.5" anyway.

That's why there are Mac users like me that want a mid sized mid range Mac that's not an all in one. Plenty of room inside for stuff and I can change monitor sizes without having to replace the whole computer. :D

Seriously - I won't need 3 27" - but I want one for my MacBook Laptop and I can get a very good deal on 2 27" LED's displays via a friends business account, so that's why I consider this crazy setup :D

2 27" LED's wil be just fine for my needs - I do webdesign, so always nice to have one screen dedicated to Photoshop or Espresse/Dreamweaver and the other screen dedicated to Aperture/Lightroom.

The third one - if I get it, will be for Mail/Docs/sheets/websurfing/watching webdesign LIVE while I can modify photos, graphics and coding on the other screens.

Could I do all this on one 27" display - sure no problem
Is it fun to have 2 or even 3 27" to work on - must be crazy fun and cool

I haven't bought them just yet

But will wait for the iMac release even though I promised I would NEVER buy an iMac again because I just don't believe in the compact all in one design.

I will get 2 27" for sure - but if I get the third one, it will be bought in late summer.........together with the new MBA probably ;)

I was wondering if is there any possibility for the new iMac to have integrated Intel GPU's...like the new MBP (starting price). I hope that's only on laptops, in order to save energy, otherwise that would be quite dissappointing...

I wish it will have sandy bridge i5 and i7 processors, AMD Graphics, and thunderbolt port.

Looking on amazon UK there almost completely out of stock on everything.
AND saying in-stock on the 6th of may. Next weeks looking better and better!

It's possible on the low-end model if Apple "makes up for it" with a quad core i7.

They went to integrated 9400M gpu from a dedicated gpu in the low end model a few years back. IT was a bit of a step backwards if I remember correctly.

It's definitely for the white iPhone, but it's a possibility that the iMac refresh could be included as well!! :D If not, then on Tuesday I suppose :(

Assuming the refresh hits on May 3rd, when will most Apple stores have them in stock?
I'm betting the refresh will be Thursday, May 5 instead of Tuesday May 3. Thursday seems to be the new Tuesday for Apple here lately. The MBP refresh happened on Thursday, as did the addition of the white iPhone 4. I hope I'm wrong though. :)

iPad 2 was still unveiled on a tuesday though, wasn't it?

On the other hand, Amazon UK saying iMac's are back in stock on the 6th might be a hint in the direction of thursday instead of tuesday.

3rd party / resellers dont get the stock the same day apple stores get them. Its usually a couple of days after (be it 2-3).

That used to be the case. Amazon has had the refreshed machines the same day for the last two big product launches (most recent MBP update and the last iMac refresh).

Yep, at least within a couple of days.

Early 2009 24" iMac had ATI 4850 as a BTO which is the same GPU as in late 2009 27" iMac. 24" iMacs used special CPUs with lower TDP though so if 21.5" used crippled CPUs, it might be able to use similar graphics as its big brother.

Rather useless comment here but i just rang apple to confirm the prices of the uk 27inch models and said i was going to purchase one on monday and he said that i should just wait till the end of the week and ring back?

meh thought id share it

I think we might just be disappointed come Tuesday, with the royal wedding tomorrow and may day one Monday that is a 4 day weekend for people here in the UK and i read somewhere that Apple never likes to release new products the day after a public holiday is this correct?

Or am i just being pessimistic???

well, think about it. Do you think Steve would let the Royal Wedding steal his thunder? lol. I dont think he has even been thinking about it.

If you go by the logic of no releases on holidays, which countries would you have to hold to? It could be pretty hard to find some days where there are no national holidays somewhere in the world, or do you mean just in the US?

I think everyone is giving the royal wedding a little too much credit... ;)

Oh BTW what the hech is may day? lol. but seriously...im gonna need to google it now.
