My current iMac is the 24" 2008 version. *It's coming up to 3 years of age and I really do need to update now. *I run my iMac on simutaniously on my Plasma TV for Home Threatre purposes, and it's starting to struggle especially when displaying HD content on the 2nd display.

I would like to get the i7 version, but currently it seems just a little too expensive.
Hopefully when it gets refreshed the price should come down, or at least we should get better value for money. *
For e.g - i would expect 8GB ram as standard, for the amount im paying.
It would also not make sense for the macbook airs to be able to boot faster than the new iMacs. *
A small SSD for boot purposes would be amazing. *Basically the less beach balls the better!
I would also like the video input issues to be sorted.

Im hopeful of a March release date, but the distinct lack of evidence says differently. *The longest I could hold out for would be until May.
It just feels like the iMac's are now at the back of the queue in apple's priorities. *Its all mobile focused now which is maybe why we'll have to wait a little longer for the refresh.

Im not sure if it's just because it was the 1st Mac i bought, but it will be a sad day when I finally retire my current iMac :(

For some reason I have received a warning for the only post I made in this thread above, for being abusive/offensive to other members. Has this forum gone mad? or can someone offer an explanation to me! Very confused, as I can't see anything remotely offensive in my post.

Edit - the moderators have now solved this, they got the wrong person

I think people are hoping this is the case based on what we have seen with the Air but who knows if it is this year or next?

Do you think it will be in April or July we will see the next iMac refersh?

I hope they add the 3TB option as an option along with:
HDMI
Blue-Ray for data back up
(Don't tell me too the cloud either I have a 256kbps upload)

I also hope they keep the 21.5 screen otherwise i'll have to go desk shopping:D

I would say they will stick with 2TB + bigger SSD as the option
Blue-Ray - no chance
HDMI - well that possible

For iMac 2011 .. i wish Apple include SSD 64 Gb as standard (maybe onboard). That way, you can store OS X and all software from App Store on SSD .. I wonder how that will improve performance so well, while all files or Windows bootcamp can still be stored on HDD, that should come handy, dont you think :)

Touch screen should also included on iMac .. come on, OS X Lion inspired from iOS .. so, having touch screen should be no brainer .. Besides, what good a cleaning cloth (the one that comes in every iMac) if you never use it (to clean up touched display) :p

Upgradeable GPU .. now that's what i call IMPROVEMENT .. this way, your iMac will have doubled lifespan, yes make it exclusive, which means you can only buy it from Apple, it's okay .. but please, i don't want to upgrade my iMac in several years, only because the GPU is outdated ??!! Besides, iMac should be closer as desktop computer (in term of flexibility and upgradeability) rather than notebook

Bluray support please ?? It's okay if Apple is too stingy to include built in BDRW .. but please allow us to watch our Bluray via external drive on MacOS, please :(

Hopefully USB 3 will quietly make an appearance so someone can, if technically possible, reverse engineer the driver to allow people to use a USB card in the 2010 27" iMac's mini pci-e socket.

I just want HDMI so that I can use the 27" as a TV/Gaming solution for my spare room.

I have an eyetv, but the quality is piss poor.

There's one issue with that-HDMI can't support 1600x2560, sadly. In the same vein of hope, I'd love to see more inputs, or inputs that have adapters that don't cost a billion dollars.

Couldn't the hardware itself scale to 1080p though?

Would still be better than the static I get through the eyetv.

They will almost certainly stick with 27" being biggest. The only bigger size would be 30" and I'm pretty sure that Apple won't change back to 16:10.

I'm assuming there will be a 4 GB minimum for the lower-end models.

The graphics cards will probably get an update like usual.

This is just me, but I think Apple should release a 23-24" iMac. 21.5 is just too small, but it's a nice price. :D

As long as a small SSD for the OS, like rumoured in the new MBP, and a new GPU (Come on, the current one is pathetic!) are included, it'll be a sale for me.
I'd pay extra fir Blu-ray, USB3 and maybe a couple other small things.
Speaking of price, any ideas whether or not the price with go up, or stay around the same? :)

I'd absolutely love Blu-Ray as an option on the iMac update. I have quite a few BRs with my PS3 which I would love to play on an iMac 27inch screen.

BUT Apple seem determined to ignore BR because it would undercut their iTunes film downloads. This is the annoying thing about Apple - they are too closed. Flash is another example where they are sticking their head in the sand because it impacts profit.

So while I am heavily tempted to get the largest iMac when updated I will have to wait and see. With BR it is a sale, without probably will still buy but less certain.

Yeah I'm looking forward for the refresh of the new iMac hopefully it will be out soon. Its been tough to run PS, Illustrator and InDesign on my 2007 MBP.

No built in BR. You might see a BTO with SSD system drive with no optical drive. Fl*** is still a bago'mess but with pressure being applied to Adobe, that will get straightened out. Possibly a keyboard with Magic Pad hybrid. LightPeak integration.

This.

'cept try running these and Final Cut on a 2003 Power Mac!
So, yeah, I need a new Mac. Avoiding a Mac Pro or MBP if I can get a quad or SB iMac. LightPeak/Thunderbolt or USB would be a nice plus.

Well, they definitely won't do HDMI or Blu Ray. They'll do Thunderbolt instead of HDMI. Maybe 3 TB option, but I'd guess not. They're just not plentiful enough.

HDMI Thunderbolt replaces this. You will need, however, to buy a thunderbolt to HDMI cable
Blue-Ray for data back up If you have a external blu ray drive, or a PS3, you can connect it using the thunderbolt to HDMI cable.

I'm predicting the i3 will go bye-bye for the i5 and i7s.

There MIGHT be a third size to close the gap between 27" and 21.5". Maybe around 23"-24". Just from personal experience, my 23" monitor dwarfs 21" monitors and 27" monitors are colassal compared to it.

I'm pretty sure that 68XX will be the GPU in the high and maybe low ends and 67XX in the low ends if not.

I'm predicting a release between April and July. Probably in between the iPad 2 and iPhone.

4 GB standard in the low-end, 8 in the larger ones.

HDMI-in (only supporting 1080p on the 27" :()

Thunderbolt

Not much else that I can predict that would be likely.
