In the 13" i5 128 I received today (Returned a i7 256 I never even opened, so I don't know which display or SSD it had) I got the Toshiba SSD and the LG Phillips display. I'm not unhappy though, everything seems great! :)

I will give it two weeks of use and if something seems off I'll return it, but no issues so far and I don't really expect any to pop up.

As they say, 4th time is a charm :)
MBA #1: Samsung SSD/LG Display (13" i5 256GB)
MBA #2: Samsung SSD/LG Display (13" i5 256GB)
MBA #3: Samsung SSD/LG Display (13" i7 256GB)
MBA #4: Samsung SSD/Samsung Display (13" i7 256GB)

Honestly? the two displays are very similiar, with very subtle differencees as noted in the Anandtech review, and I can't say one is better than the other. If you are happy with your MBA, enjoy it, this is a great little machine. The only reason I insisted on a Samsung display is the crosstalk 2 test, I tend to get headaches from certain displays and the Samsung does not seem to flicker.

Uuuuh did Apple change your device four times? My operator stopped after two changes :-( He said I should wait for a month
When I got the money back I will order again ... If you got the MBA once on your desk at home you won´t miss them again  :apple:

It´s so surprisingly that you got an Samsung SSD in every device. I would say that you can´t live in europe. I have the feeling that europe (Chez Rep.) get more Toshiba MBAs from apple. Don´t ask me why.

Just got from Amazon 11' Macbook Air with 4 gb Ram and 126 HD.
Here they are:
APPLE SSD SM128C
LTH116AT01A04

This was purchased with the kindle code and came out to be $992 with shipping and tax to NYC. This will be my main machine after having the 2010 13' macbook pro base model for about 11 months. The MBP will be going on craigslist just after i transfer my files and do a clean install of OSX on it.

Im still getting used to the reduced font size and I also noticed that the built in speaker on the MBA is significantly worse than the MBP. Otherwise everything is as expected. Getting used to it will take a little bit. Definitely enjoying the speed of the SSD.

Purchased mine yesterday from Apple local Store in Frankfurt am Main / Germany.

13" Base Model
128GB Toshiba SSD
LTH133BT01A03 - (Samsung Display)

I got an LG display and a TOSHIBA harddrive on my 2011 macbook air 11 inch with 128gb, 4gb ram stock model.

11.6" i7 1.8GHz, 4GB, 256GB
SSD: SM256C
LCD: LG-Philips LP116WH4-TJA3

Really happy with the combo, screen is really nice, and SSD is exactly as I wanted, don't care about the samsung screen really, viewing angles seem good for my uses.

I saw the SSD though and sighed heavily, I'm a spec-head.. huge relief I got the Samsung, that'd have bugged me forever.

That would have bugged me a little all the while too if I would to know that I am using a Toshiba.. (Even if speed is ineligible.)

APPLE SSD SM128C and Samsung screen..

I ordered mine in Ireland and it's a toshiba too! :(

Toshiba/LG.

Considering I'm not a fanatic, I was surprised to be a little bit disappointed when I discovered this.

Don't see how I'm going to get the opportunity to compare with the "better" model within the next two weeks. I don't want to return it if I can't spot anything noticeable but I don't want to be disappointed down the line!

Damn that I ever read this thread!!!

Lol I know exactly how you feel. I have a toshiba SSD on my 2010 and I can't really say I'm disappointed at all. But that could be cause I've never tried one with a samsung SSD

Samsung SSD and LG display I believe. Should I return it and hope for the best? I got it from Amazon. I can't go to the Apple Store and exchange it for a new one, right?

Probably not unless there's something wrong with it. The difference between the LG and Samsung displays is minimal according to some, you could try and go to the apple store and see if they have a samsung one on display and check it out for yourself.

Thanks. I just read that the LG has better contrast levels, which is good for me as issues involving contrast bother me the most. So basically, I'd have more issues if I got a Toshiba SSD instead?

Dunno i have the Toshiba SSD and have no problem with it, if i really needed the performance i'd wait for the SATA III OWC drive which is twice as fast as the samsung anyways, or the new Samsung as well.

MBA 11" i7 256GB
SSD: Samsung 256GB (read 265MB/s - write 245MB/s measured by "Diskspeed Test" app)

I think not. There are threads showing real test were the Samsung handles larger files faster and were the Toshiba handles smaller files faster. So transferring large information on the Samsung is quicker vs Toshiba but starting applications and small files is quicker on the Toshiba. In the end it's a wash. They are both very close to each other and they are both very good SSD's for the MBA.

And as far as the panels go, back on the 2010 release the forum voted the LG the better of the 2 screens. Funny how my 2010 samsung display went from 2nd to 1st and all I had to do was read about it.

So what you're saying is that it's all a wash in both speed and screen.. so what is the point of this thread and everyone asking which they have? There's virtually no difference from what you're telling me since both have their own pros/cons whether it's large/small file transfers and you can't say that you will primarily be handling large files more than small because computer use really varies (unless you aren't using your MBA for normal use and leaving it as some large file transfer server or something). And the screen seems totally subjective if the same screen was judged superior just last year.

I would say you are correct. Very well said. The point of the thread? It really has none. What we see is many new MBA owners, some thinking they got the bigger piece of the pie, some feeling shorted. In the end they got an Apple from the same tree. Some may look better from the outside, but the all taste the same.

Mine 11" i5 4G/128GB.
Samsung SSD, but LG display. My wife got the SM display. Both display looked almost the same except my wife's has more contrast. I guess i am not going to do any PS or Lr on mine.

Here is the scoop.

My 13" air had a samsung screen. Loved it. It got scratched somehow. Apple replaced it for free. Nice of them. They replaced it with an LG screen. RIGHT AWAY I noticed the difference. Less viewing angles, more washed out. Don't care what they say, the Samsung screen is FAR superior.

Summary SSD stats as of 8/13 -PLEASE ADD YOUR DATA

This is all probably not a big deal in real life, but a couple of quick notes.
In a Boston area store yesterday, and 100% of the 13" mba's (7) were samsungs, as were most of the 11's I tried (4).

Please keep entering data here and the picture will emerge. Not sure I would call these statistically valid or anything, and we know nothing about region or inventory age. BUT you might find this helpful

Of the 268 entered so far:

MBA - all versions
74%: samsung
26%: Toshiba

MBA 13 128's
57% Samsung
43% Toshiba

MBA 13 256
85% Samsung
15% Toshiba

MBA 11 128
78% Samsung
22% Toshiba

MBA 11 256
86% Samsung
14% Toshiba
