I canceled my purchase. The probability to get a Samsung display and ram is too low at the moment. So I decided to wait for 30 days :apple:

Im going to wait too, I think that the reason that apple still using the Toshiba SSD and the LG Display and putting the samsung limited, It may be because what happen in Japan!! they probably be low on resources !! specially Samsung...

that is what I think...

Had the LP133WP1-TJA3 and TS128C
returned it, but got the exact same combination.
Always so unlucky:mad:

Not that I know where the actual manufacturing facilities are, but for what it's worth, Samsung is headquartered in South Korea and Toshiba is a Japanese company.

I'm pretty sure Samsung has some manufacturing in Japan. There are still some things the Japanese do better than anyone else.. But I think the issue is simply supply and demand with Apple selling MacBook Airs about as fast as they can make them. It's an issue for the PC companies as Apple has tied up all supplies of many components.

I'm pretty sure that's the reason, otherwise I don't see why Apple would do that...

13" i5 bought last saturday in Guatemala, Central America.

LG Screen and Toshiba SSD, it was the only one with english keyboard (don't like the layout of the spanish one) so no changing, besides it looks good and works fast :)

11 inch 4gb/128SSD bought from the online apple store in The Netherlands.

Got SM128C so the samsung SSD and the samsung display.

I was pretty disappointed with the display at first the LG I got in my 2GB/64GB (samsung SSD) I returned for the one I have now was a bit better. But after calibrating the screen I'm really happy with the screen.

Was your MBA sent from Chez Republic too? Can you tell me the date of the production? It´s on the covering box near the upper corner.

Nope It was sent to me from Syncreon tech in the Netherlands.
Production date is 21st of July 2011.

But I don't think production dates are going to guarantee that you get a Samsung SSD and a Samsung display. As far as I know there is no way on the box if it has a Toshiba or Samsung SSD or an LG or Samsung screen.

Anyway I hope your going to enjoy your air :apple:

EDIT: In my personal opinion without calibration the LG screen was a bit better then the Samsung screen.
After calibration the Samsung screen was way better, I don't know how the LG screen will be after calibration.

When you calibrate the display, what exactly do you change ? Because when I go to Display Calibration I don't see anything special.

Samsung SSD/Screen

I can't be sure if I'd notice the speed of the SSD or not. I'm sure its highly subjective. That being said the sammy is rated to be a bit faster so I am glad to have won the parts lottery. As for the screen I've read enough reviews about the color quality of the samsung that it doesn't hurt having that as well.

In either case I doubt Apple would be selling thousands of every configuration of Air if the parts were all not comprable. In the end its just an amazing machine. :)

SM128

Ordered online from apple store August 5th. Received August 9th in N.C. USA :D

I'm a little confused here. I know that benchmarks have shown differences but can anyone truly say that by using this machine in their actual daily use that there is any real appreciable difference? Even by a second or two (in real everyday use)? I'm wondering if I should actually be concerned about this or not when I buy my own MBA very soon.

Toshiba/LG.

Considering I'm not a fanatic, I was surprised to be a little bit disappointed when I discovered this.

Don't see how I'm going to get the opportunity to compare with the "better" model within the next two weeks. I don't want to return it if I can't spot anything noticeable but I don't want to be disappointed down the line!

Damn that I ever read this thread!!!

Czech republic, base 13", czech keyboard, Samsung SSD, LG Display

all that mattered (if anything) was the SSD and it is the samsung, so yay .. even though i would be happy with toshiba none the less

the LG display is awesome no complaints there either, its bright with even backlight :) the strange bottom gradient is there, but it does not look that bad in this place ..

I think not. There are threads showing real test were the Samsung handles larger files faster and were the Toshiba handles smaller files faster. So transferring large information on the Samsung is quicker vs Toshiba but starting applications and small files is quicker on the Toshiba. In the end it's a wash. They are both very close to each other and they are both very good SSD's for the MBA.

And as far as the panels go, back on the 2010 release the forum voted the LG the better of the 2 screens. Funny how my 2010 samsung display went from 2nd to 1st and all I had to do was read about it.
