Hmm... Is it time for me to become miffed?

iMac 27" with SSD ordered on May 25th. (Note that I am in San Francisco.)

Current delivery date (unchanged over the past week) JULY 14th.

When I ordered, it said 4-6 weeks. Note that the interval from May 25th to July 14th is 50 days. That's 7 weeks and 1 day.

OK... No problem. I can deal with that. There's a delay. I understand. Like all of you, I've been observing the delay and fluctuations. I was ready to go the distance.

However... Today, just for kicks, I went to the Apple store online and spec'd an iMac exactly like the one I have on order. When I clicked to see how long delivery would take, it said:

1-2 weeks.

Today's the 11th. From now until July 14th is nearly 5 weeks.

...

I realize there's a chance my shipment could be moved up... but still...

What do you guys think? Should I call Apple and ask if I should cancel and re-order? That seems ridiculous to me. Nevertheless, one never knows how things like this work with an operation the size of Apple. I suppose it couldn't hurt to call and ask. Suggestions?

Thanks,

---Berus

You'll probably receive your iMac in 1-2 weeks even if you do nothing. I ordered on 3 May, today it finally got shipped.

My guess: You'll get a new iMac around 21-24 June.

Relax, soon you will enjoy a new iMac!

Berus,
I understand what you are saying and I would be wondering the same thing.

If you look at the order dates and shipping dates most of us seeing movement just the past few days ordered at launch or a few days from it with Europe seeing the first glimmer of hope.

If I were you I would sit patiently a few days and see what early next week brings. Maybe the new 1-2 week estimate turns out to be a bit aggressive and you still end up with same delivery date?

Hang in there ;)

Berus, hang in there. I see people that have already had there iMac shipped with order dates a few days after me. I ordered my maxed out iMac(except Ram) on May 9th. I live in the United States. Just this morning my order updated from Not yet shipped to Prepared for Shipment. I assume it will go out Monday, and I am suppose to have 1 business day shipping, so I hope I will get it by next Thursday. By me waiting, I ended up get close to $100 credited off my bill and getting Lion for free(notated on my order number by Apple). You will get it soon enough. Just be patient.

The orders so far have been moving pretty quickly since Wednesday or so this past week, and I'd say there's no way you'd get it any faster by reordering. You'd just get yourself moved to the end of the queue.

Just wait it out. I'd be quite surprised if it didn't ship sometime in the next several days.

My maxed out 27" (except for the RAM, go that from OWC) which I ordered on May 20th went to 'prepared for shipment' yesterday, and today I got the 'shipped' SMS with a TNT tracking number and a delivery date of June 15th or earlier. My initial delivery date was July 14th so I'm ecstatic :)

PS Customer from the Netherlands ..

From the Iditarod in Anchorage to the next stop at Graceland my iMac is making the rounds.

Should be on the afternoon flight to Memphis, flight FDX84

Let the stalking begin :D

Does anyone know whether these can go from "Prepared for Shipment" to "Shipped" on a weekend? My order (placed May 12) went to "Prepared for Shipment" late Fri. night / early Sat. morning. Any chance it will start moving before Monday?

I'm located in TN, USA... Guessing FedEx will be my carrier. Also, when I called a week or so back, they upgraded my shipping, so now under shipping method it says "Priority." What does this mean in terms of an Int'l FedEx shipment? Am I looking at 2-3 days or 4-5? Thanks!!

Late fri/sat TN time or China time?
Either way, yes it is possible. I think it depends on flight schedule, how full the shipment container is, etc... drives the frequency of shipping notifications.
Prepared just means it is ready for pickup. You can see the scheduled flights that leave china, headed for anchorage to get a rough idea when the next flight is leaving.

Your other question about shipping times, in my opinion:
Paying for next day or expedited delivery to the US on a BTO model is a waste of money, they all go through the same process. China, anchorage for customs release, Memphis, out to all other cities. A coworker of mine ordered his 2009 iMac i7 same time I did, he paid for next day, I chose standard (free) shipping - both went the exact same route but mine arrived 6 hrs earlier. No guarantees and every case is different, just my past experience.

Mine went from "Prepared for Shipment" on Friday morning, to "Shipped" this morning (U.S. Eastern, about 8 a.m.). On FedEx tracking, I had "picked up" and "Left FedEx origin facility" within a few hours of each other this morning, but nothing else since. It's been about 10-12 hours since then, so I don't know if I'll see another change before Monday or not.

Thanks for your reply... It was in the wee hours of Sat. morning EST (my time) when it went to "Prepared."

Yeah, I'm glad I got the shipping upgrade for free as opposed to paying for it. At the time, the sales rep seemed to think it would be shipping from California and said I'd receive it the day after it shipped. Obviously, that is no longer the case.

I might call tomorrow to ask about Lion, since people are saying they have had it "noted on their order" that they are eligible. Although, I would really think there would be some blanket eligibility notice sent out to all of us in this situation...

Also, this sounds awful, but I'm a bit jealous of the people who have had $100+ knocked off their order for the wait. I hate to think like that, because honestly I knew there would be a 4-6 week wait and I'm getting it in < 6, but still... If others in our situation can get a discount like that, why shouldn't we all?

99% sure you will see some movement, most likely waiting for the next flight out.

I'm confused - on that FlightAware website you linked, it appears that some FedEx flights out of China are going directly to Memphis instead of Alaska. Or do they all stop in Alaska and some continue on to Memphis on the same flight?

If mine got put on a plane non-stop from China to Memphis, it very well could be at my door in 1-2 days since I live in TN... Probably wishful thinking though.

Is it a FedEx plane? I'm sure they have flights directly to memphis, but maybe not cargo.
In my experience they all stop in anchorage for international release, then on to Memphis for distribution to final cities.

Edit: I see it is a FedEx flight, maybe yours can go non-stop but I doubt it. Must be some reason my last two have stopped in AK, then TN, then to me??

Mine went to prepared for shipment at around noon pacific time on Friday, so around 3pm eastern, and I got my shipping email at pretty much the same time as you (4:45am PDT/7:45am EDT). Also shipping via FedEx, and my tracking info looks the same (latest is "Left FedEx origin facility" at 6:31am June 12, origin time), so I'd guess our iMacs are on the same flight.

Now I'm feeling guilty about separating them. They probably bonded.

I think mine got held up at the full body scanner, looks like it is on flight 60 vice 84 to Memphis, based on a 4:39 departure time
