Received iMac on Wed., June 15

Original status said it would be shipped June 15/del. June 22; actually was sent on the 11th and received on 15th. Cool. Having a blast. BTW, does anyone have the link for reserving the Lion upgrade? Hopefully those of us who are receiving iMacs after June 6 will be eligible.

3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
16GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM -4x4GB
2TB Serial ATA Drive+256GB SSD
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1GB GDDR5
MAGIC MOUSE+MAGIC TRACKPAD

The magic trackpad is fantastic!

Did you install them yet? Cause mine aren't working properly.

Are they fully seated?
The top two slots (when the iMac is laying face down) is harder to get your thumbs on for most

Did you run hardware test?
Define "not working properly"
Random errors, error beeps at start-up, etc...

Finally post the specs of the RAM you purchased and we can better assist you.
Should be:
PC3-10600 DDR3 1333MHz SO-DIMM 204 Pin, yes laptop RAM for the 2011 iMac

The memory I bought: Mushkin 8 GB DDR3-1333 Kit (Light-Retail, 996647, Essentials-Serie)

At first everything seemed fine. But when I started to actually use my machine after installing some apps, some strange things happened. When I extracted some large .rar/.zip's it told me they were corrupted. A DMG of which I am sure is perfectly in order wouldn't mount (the exact same DMG and zip's mounted/extracted without problems on my MPB). Then the Bootcamp tools in Windows wouldn't install, threw some kind of weird corrupted messages.
Then I got irritated and decided to remove the extra RAM, just to cross out the non-apple parts.
And then everything worked perfect... same zip's extracted without problems, dmg file mounted.

So now I'm left with 8 GB RAM that won't work on my iMac.

Sounds like the right stuff, maybe just one of them are bad, not fully seated, dirt/dust, etc...

Can you return or exchange them?

I have 4-4GB sticks of Corsair in my 2011 iMac and 4-4GB Crucial in my 2009 iMac, no problems at all.

The main reason I went with 16GB vice the more cost effective 12GB path was to have the same exact brand and speed instead of a little factory Apple RAM (2x2 - 4GB) and (2x4 - 8GB) aftermarket, plus it was only another $40-50 for me 12GB vice 16GB.

I would try inspecting the ram slot visually with a light, maybe blow it out with some canned air and testing the new RAM one at a time.

Test

As I was writing this post, my wife called to say it has arrived. This is going to be a long day at work!

Just finished moving all my data from a Windows RAID 5 rig to an external Firewire 800 array last night. With this machine I am taking the plunge and moving solely to Mac hardware in the house (although I will run Parallels on the iMac for the odd utility here and there). With this iMac I will also have all my machines booting from SSD. I have a 2010 Macbook Pro (with the 256 SSD upgrade), my wife has a 2010 Macbook Air (with the 128 SSD). Once you have had SSD you don't go back.

Will post pic tonight.

Having spent the weekend on and off messing around with my new toy, I can now give a preliminary report.

This thing screams. It is fast. Having the applications on the SSD really makes a huge difference when opening them.
It is huge, especially as I've been used to a 17" PowerBook for the past 7 years, but I think it'll be an easy transition to get used to.
I thought having a glossy screen would cause a problem but no issues so far. The brightness of the screen eliminates reflections and I've adjusted my track lighting which has made a difference.

No dirt or dust behind the glass
No dead pixels.
Very slight yellow tint towards the bottom quarter of the screen, but only noticeable if you're really looking for it. I have AppleCare, so if it gets worse, back it goes.

iTunes volume is slightly different as I've had to adjust my sound levels so as not to annoy the neighbours.
The wireless keyboard / trackpad / mouse combo work really well. Having not used the trackpad before, it's very easy to use and appears to have improved my productivity using my Mac.

I set up my User folder on the HDD instead of the SSD with no problems so far, except for an import CD issue with iTunes where it saved the imported songs in the wrong place.

The speakers are M-Audio® AV 40 Monitor Speakers, and yes that is a Dell Mini 9 running Leopard.

Did you put that piece of cloth underneath the foot because of the resonating sound of the hdd? Does that work for you? (I got the same issue...)

Nope, just a temporary measure to stop the desk from being scratched. I'll be buying a proper rubber / foam mat in the next few weeks. I don't have a noisy HDD. Everything is very quiet, machine wise.

Resonating - as in humming, vibrating?

I want to get one for my little music studio, but I need it to be very quiet.

It's very quiet, when I lift it. Only my Ikea desk (hollow inside) doesn't like the spinning HDD. It goes like humm-humm-humm-humm. I guess that's a humming sound ;).
I'm now looking for a material to put underneath the machine, but had no success yet. Thinking of mounting it to the wall. (like this)

After sitting at Dulles all weekend ("In Transit," my arse), my iMac is finally "at [my] Local FedEx Facility!!!"

EDIT: Out for delivery!

And another UK order arrives. No yellowing that I can see, pixels all ok (27 incher), and 2TB drive happily burbling away faintly as it receives all the data from my MBP.
