So from what I saw in Sunday's NFC game, the Falcons did a good job keeping Kaepernick from running, they kept linebackers in on each side for containment..... The downside to that was that Vernon Davis was able to run wild and get in between the linebackers and the safeties for some nice catches. I wonder what the Ravens game plan is going to be with regards to this? The Ravens have a smarter and more veteran secondary so it will be interesting to see how they play it.

I agree, 49ers are very good at taking what the defense gives them......take away the middle Kaep will keep it. Hold the edge and spy on him, he'll let Gore run up the middle of pass to the TEs. I like Kaep a lot as a 49ers fan.......I hope his inexperience doesn't come into play in this Super Bowl.

----------

What bugs me more than anything are Niners fans who think that Kap is somehow Joe Montana or Steve Young just because of a few good games. Jumping out of the pocket and running with such a lanky, high center of gravity is a recipe for disaster. I don't know of any player like that could even go an entire regular season. We only have this one game right now and if Kap and his running game is what he's comfortable with I guess that's what he will do. I don't expect Baltimore to be any less challenging stopping the QB from running than Atlanta.

Hes definitely not Joe or Steve.........I wouldn't put him there for awhile. He does have a high center of gravity, but hes been pretty good about sliding or running out of bounds. Plus he is a lot bigger than RG3, Wilson, or Vick. Hes 6'4 to 6'5 and around 230 pounds, so he'll be able to take hits a bit better. Now that being said, 1 solid helmet to a knee and it doesn't matter how big you are, but he is built to handle it a bit better. I think why a lot of Niners fans are excited, is we haven't had a good QB since Young or an acceptable one since Garcia........and Kaep has demonstrated he can throw it really well, as well as run.

Ok, Superbowl is two weeks away and we know who is playing. Who is taking who...

Me: Ravens.

Hate the Niners because of that little thing called "The Catch". So I can't pull for them. I don't even like watching them play but since it is the Superbowl.

Come on Ray Lewis and Co.... :D

For us, longtime NFL losers, the catch was something we needed to get us going.

It was a pretty good catch but if you want something truly amazing in SF lore, short of that insane viral youtube of that high school receiver catching that pass with his just shoes, check out the catch 2:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWPQoFwVkrk

For context, we had five rings in five tries since first catch, and now we were in 18th and last year of the 49ers dynasty and we had stopped hating Dallas as much and the big threat then, as is the case now, was/is the Green Bay Packers. Brett Favre was now largely considered the best NFC quarterback for a decade between the mid-90s and mid-2000s but there was still one more trick left for the outgoing "best" quarterback Steve Young. We didn't go on to win the Super Bowl that year but we stopped Green Bay from getting that chance with this catch. Young would get his final concussion (third career ending major concussion) next season but had already been shaky and not the same since 1995 and never the same since so this was a way to relive the magic with him one more time. After 1999 we were basically in the NFL dog house for more than a decade until Smith and 2011 and Kap and this season so I have watched this quite a bit to keep my spirits up.

Favre looked so pissed off in that clip but would later go on to take the career completions, third down conversions, total yards, and touchdown records so that game didn't signal the end of him as much as the original catch signaled the beginning of the end of the 21 year Dallas dynasty and a ton of years without a Cowboys Super Bowl victory. Anyway with the '90s Cowboys, you more than made up for the original catch and you stole Haley, Sanders, and the catch 2's Owens from us so obviously you don't hate all Niners ;).

well, that sucked.

lets go 49ers. ;)

it will be interesting to see what the offseason brings, but the pats have the potential to be very good again next year too. other than a couple of guys this team is very young.

until then, it's hockey season.

also, **** bernard pollard.

As long as you have BB, you will have a good season and may meet up with Ravens again this time next year in what's shaping up to be a long term AFC rivalry for the ages but probably minus Ray Lewis. I think he's the oldest starter other than a kicker going into a Super Bowl. He still scares me though and the "legend" of Ray Lewis may be enough of a presence, and still a good player, on Super Bowl day.

Anyway,

Ha... it wasn't against Dallas so, for me I don't care lol! The Catch is still the sole reason I hate the 49'ers as a team. I like Joe M, but man that play still burns me. Being a very loooong time fan of the Cowboys that catch pretty much started the downfall of the Cowboys.

if you remember correctly my friend that "catch" wasn't actually a catch

It's clear people are very sensitive here so I do apologize. Being Jets fan I have heard all kinds of insults, jokes and trash talking about my team this year including in this very thread... And guess what I know it comes with the territory so I take it and heck most of the time I agree with it. But it's clear that some can dish it out but can't take it when it's directed at their team (not refering to anyone specifically) so I will be diplomatic from now on and keep it to objective game analysis :)

Well, I apologize for taking so much umbrage with your posts, bigjaynyc. The better choice would have been to ignore the ones that were purely about dancing in the Pats' blood and focus on the actual football discussion instead of worrying about that other stuff. Instead, the thread got a bit sidetracked, so for that I'm sorry. I have no qualms with people hating the Patriots/Tom Brady/Bill Belichick, although I reserve my right to defend them if and where applicable. But I try and do it reasonably.
aww great I'm glad you guys could kiss and makeup /sarcasm (get a room already)

I know how easy it is to get personal 63dot used to drive me crazy but now I love that maniac.

Go Ravens!

Did he drop it? Whether it was a good catch or not the filter of our eyes in SF saw it as a good one. Some of the refs seemed to be hesitant on that play (I noticed that) and I will have to look more closely again. Favre ruled over SF and Dallas for quite some time so we were willing to take anything, even if just stopping your progress.

After winning the Super Bowl by the biggest margin in history, we were booted the next three years from postseason by Green Bay. Other NFC powerhouses were also victims of Favre.

UPDATE: So I saw a catch and Owens went down face first into the ground while holding the ball. I can't get a good angle to see if he had possession or not. I could see how some would say that pass wasn't good.

sorry, got my plays mixed up... it was the Jerry Rice Fumble on a previous play that wasn't called http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1inguO24lwE start watching at 7:00 minutes in. everyone on earth knows it was a fumble and TO shouldn't have had a chance at the catch 2.

Rice looked like he lost possession before his knee hit the ground. It looked like a very obvious fumble. I see what you mean. I won't go law school 101 on this and you are correct. I don't know how the officials missed that one unless there were no clear angles.

Meh whatever, i'm just munching sour grapes. Still ticked that capers didnt make one freaking adjustment against you guys

Wouldn't have mattered......it probably actually will help you guys(Packers) out by getting embarrassed like that. There is definitely glaring holes and changes are needed. A closer game and Packers management could have just chalked it up to a few bad plays, but this forces them to admit there are definite problems on defense and offense with no running game and so much trouble if teams double Jordy over the top.

I don't appreciate being munched.

Not only that but he called you sour :D

Brady pays.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has been fined $10,000 for unnecessary roughness in Sunday's AFC Championship Game, a source informed of the fine told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport on Wednesday.

The infraction came on a slide with Ravens safety Ed Reed nearby.

And stupidly, Frank Gore got fined $10,500 for wearing his socks too low. But, yeah, the safety of the players is SOOO much more important.

And, regarding Brady's dirty play, I'm sure Gisele is preparing his appeal as we speak. ;)

Ya I agree it was a slap on the wrist but at least he has that stigma. Serves him right. That was pretty chicken thing to do.

And two weeks ago Trent Williams only paid $7,875 for hitting Richard Sherman in the face.

Fine amounts were negotiated in the collective bargaining agreement. Blame both the league and the players for such dumb amounts.

It was stupid for him to do as he could have been injured.

From this footage, which is the best I have seen since the incident, it looks like he did slip on the leg he had his weight on. It would be pretty hard to get any force behind an intentional kick if the leg planted was sideways with calf against the ground in a slide. Check out slo-mo on the video. Anyway, they could have both been hurt.

How stupid is Roger Goodell?

Brady gets fined for sliding with his leg up  yet Bernard Pollard gets absolutely nothing for spearing Ridley helmet to helmet and knocking him unconscious on the field.

Brilliant. I swear this ****ing retard has a price is right wheel that he spins to figure out of he'll punish someone or not. No consistency whatsoever.

How does everyone feel about Jesus reincarnated (Ray Lewis) using PEDs to recover from his torn triceps quicker? Guess he'll get a pass on that too just like he did on that double murder he was involved in.
